FORWARD

This Preflight Inspection & Component Recognition Manual is designed toassist you in developing a thorough preflight routine by listing the steps in theorder you see them as you work your way around the aircraft.

Each major area incorporates a series of pictures to assist you in identifyingthe components to be checked. Although careful attention has been given tomake the steps found in the manual as complete as possible, canreplace when you are combing the aircraft, looking for a potentialproblem. Many items are not specifically addressed in the preflight steps; this isnot to imply that they have little importance... to list every flight control rod andnut and bolt would require considerably more than a single manual which youcould carry to the aircraft.

While this manual is up-to-date at its current printing, it is not designed toreplace the steps found in the NATOPS Manual or the Pocket Checklist. TheNATOPS and maintenance series of manuals are updated on a recurring basis toall UH-1N user activities, whereas updates to this manual will be limited.

The preflight is designed to visually inspect theintegrity of the aircraft and its components.

1 BEFORE THE PREFLIGHT

Receive an ODO brief, fuel card / packet (when required), and completea weight and balance.Check aircraft discrepancy logbook for past discrepancies and the statusof essential equipment for your flight.

1

Check for signatures by the Plane Captain and Maintenance Controlleron the Maintenance Data Form (Part A), and the Daily and TurnaroundRecord as appropriate. Daily Inspections are good for 72 hours andTurnaround Inspections are good for 24 hours. The Pilot-In-Command will sign the Part A.Inspect and check out appropriate gear from ALSS.

"Hey, we're short ontime so you grab the

chow - I'll sign thebook and we canskip the preflight."

"OK with me. Let'sjust skip to the inside

back cover of thispreflight book."

Check the area below the aircraft for fuel or oil spills or the presence ofFOD hazards. If ordnance is aboard the aircraft, perform a safety inspection using thechecklists in your NATOPS Pocket Checklist.

2 APPROACHING THE AIRCRAFT

All areas of the UH-1N and the surrounding vicinity should be checked for FOD.Check the position of your aircraft in relation to other aircraft, supportequipment, and any other potential hazards. Note wind direction.Visually observe the skid spread, general attitude, and integrity of the aircraft.
