BRITISH COUNCIL JAPAN PRIORITIES

3

We will enhance the profile of UK creativity, develop skills and generate new creative assets and relationships. By 20/21 we will position the arts and

cultural sector to play a role in the building of more open, prosperous and diverse societies leading to increased

wellbeing.

We will improve English in Japan through developing more effective

methods of teacher training – across all ‘four skills’; We will expand our teaching of English so that people can optimise their own employment, academic and

life chances; We will promote the use of more effective and robust tools to assess English (in all ‘fours skills’)

We will increase student mobility in both directions in order to help young people in the UK and Japan realise

their potential and to contribute to UK prosperity and trust between both

countries

We will increase joint UK/Japan higher education and industry collaboration in research and development in areas of common interest to both countries (such as aging) leading to positive

social and economic change
