SCOPE TABLE OF CONTENTS
1.1 These requirements cover horizontal atmospheric-type steel tanks intended for the storageunderground of flammable and combustible liquids.
1.2 These requirements cover single wall tanks, secondary containment tanks, multiple compartmentsingle wall and multiple compartment secondary containment tanks.
1.3 These tanks are intended for installation and use in accordance with the Standard for the Installation of
Oil-Burning Equipment, NFPA 31, the Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30, the Automotive and Marine Service Station Code, NFPA 30A, and the Standard for the Installation and Use of Stationary Combustion E ngines and Gas Turbines, NFPA 37, and the Uniform Fire Code, published by theInternational Fire Code I nstitute.
1.4 Tanks covered by these requirements are cylindrical ta nks that ar e f abricated, in spected, and testedfor leakage before shipment from the factory as completely assembl ed v essels.
1.5 These requirements do not apply to tanks covered by the Standard for Welded Steel Tanks for OilStorage, API 650, nor tanks i ntended for use in chemical and petrochemical plants.
1.6 Th is St andard does not cover corrosion protec tion which may be required by local, state or federalauthor ities. Corrosion protection systems installed at the f actory on carbon steel unde rground storagetanks are covered in UL 1746, External Corrosion Protection System for Steel Underground Storage Tanks.
1.7 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or differentfrom those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-productrequirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipatedby the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard cannot be judged to comply withthis standard. Where considered appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted inconformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
