How to get there?

About us

Iceland is easily accessable by air. During winter, Icelandic airlines have regular flights from major cities in both North-America and Europe. During summer, you will find flights from even more cities and with other airlines as well. So coming to Iceland is not a problem, and it shouldn't take too long either.

Check out www.icelandair.is and www.wow.is.For other airlines coming to Iceland, check out

the flight schedules at this website: b2b.kefairport.is/English/

You can also come by sea, by a car-ferry from Denmark. Check out www.smyrilline.com.

Once in Iceland, you can choose to go directly to Úlfljótsvatn (less than 2 hours from the airport)

The first scout hut at Lake Úlfljótsvatn was built in 1942. Before that, scouts camped at the lake in tents, for weeks at a time. Even though their accommodation and clothing were primitive compared to todays' standards, there are many things that have not changed since then. The easy access to nature, the midnight sun's reflection on the lake and the good spirit that leaves every guest with the desire to visit again.

The center is owned and run by scouts (a joint operation between the Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association and the Reykjavík Scout District), but is also open to the public.

Indoor accommodation is offered in three main huts, housing 24 (KSÚ hut), 34 (DSÚ hut) and 26 (JB hut). The center also has two group kitchen and dining halls, two lecture/group rooms, a multi-use house at the campsite, a campsite service-center with shower block, and other buildings.

One of the best things about Iceland is how safe it is. Experienced international campers might be surprised to learn that in Iceland there are no bears, wolfes or other big predators. There are also no snakes or venomous insects.

During certain weather conditions in the summer it might seem like mosquitos are everywhere. Don't

or to spend some time in the capital Reykjavik first. From the airport you can rent a car, take the Flybus (www.flybus.is) or we can arrange for a pickup by coach.

The nearest shop from Úlfljótsvatn is in Selfoss, about 20 minute drive away. There is no public transport running to or from Úlfljótsvatn.

worry, there are no mosquitos in Iceland. What you might see are midges, small flies that occationally bite humans. Unless you are allergic, the bites are harmless.

We recommend a mosquito head net, and even insect reppellent, if you don't appreciate the company of midges. If you forget yours, both can be purchased at the center.

Lake Úlfljótsvatn is named after Úlfljótur, a settler from Norway who wrote the first common law for Iceland. He was one of the most influential founder of the Icelandic parliament (Alþingi) in the year 930.

His name may seem strange tody, as the literal translation is "Wolf-ugly".
