Before the arrival of the Spanish in 1519, Mexico was ruled by the Aztec empire. Although Spanish is Mexico's official language, the Aztec language of Nahuatl is still spoken in many parts of the country. Some Nahuatl words that have been adapted into English include chocolate (chocolatl), chili (chilli) and guacamole (ahuacamolli, literally "avocado sauce").

The nation's capital of Mexico City is sinking at an average of 4 inches per year. The city was built on top of a dried-up lake bed, and has sunk roughly 33 feet over the past 60 years.

The world's oldest specimen of popcorn was found in Mexico, and is estimated to be 5,600 years old.

Mexico is home to the largest pyramid on Earth (sorry, Egypt)! The Great Pyramid of Cholula was built gradually over a period of 1000 years and has a total volume of 4.45 million cubic meters. Today the pyramid complex is mostly covered with grass and brush, and looks like an ordinary hill from a distance.

DID YOU KNOW...?With unlimited global texting on every Ultra plan, we're getting our subscribers' texts to all corners of the world in a range of different languages. You're probably familiar with some texting slang in American English, but have you ever wondered how it’s done in other languages? Here are some texting shorthand tricks from around the world!

Cutting letters from words happens often in English texts (like "bday" for "birthday"), and Spanish is no different. When texting a word that starts with "es-," it's not uncommon to just leave those two letters off. For instance, estoy ("I'm feeling…") becomes "toy." Esta bien ("It's okay") is written simply "Ta b." Sometimes words in Spanish texts are replaced by a single letter: The word que ("what") can be written as simply "q" or even "k," and the word por ("for") is symbolized simply by typing the letter "x." The word porque ("because") and the question ¿Por que? ("Why?") can be texted as "xq."

Using numbers as part of words is commonplace when texting in English ("b4," "gr8," "l8r"), and it's used for French as well. The number 1 in French is un (pronounced "uh") and 2 is deux (pronounced "du"), and those two numbers are used as part of words in many French texting terms. The word bien ("good") can be written as simply "b1." Texting de rien ("you're welcome") is as simple as typing "2 ri 1." To tell someone you'll see them tomorrow (à demain), use the shorthand "@2m1."

How about communicating with numbers exclusively? That's the way lots of Chinese texting slang works. For instance, to tell someone "I love you," text them the number "520." Those three numbers are pronounced "wǔ èr líng" in Chinese, very similar to "I love you" which is "wǒ ài nǐ." Looking to be a little melodramatic? Text "555" to symbolize crying. The number 5 in Chinese is pronounced "wǔ," so "wǔ wǔ wǔ" represents the sounds of sobbing. To bid someone farewell, text "88." The number 8 is pronounced "baa" in Chinese, and "baa-baa" is used as a phonetically-similar way to say "bye-bye."

My family has always been a business-minded family, so I guess you could say that starting my own business was in my genes. I got my start back in the 90's – my brother owned a video store, and I rented space in it for $100 a month for the purpose of selling beepers. As the years passed, beepers gradually evolved into cell phones, and I adapted right along with the industry.

Cinco de Mayo is a great time here in Chicago. We do a huge parade every year, and the fact that it begins directly in front of my store is great for business (plus I get a front-row seat for the festivities)! It’s always nice to

have the opportunity to say hello to my customers, and my family and friends always come down and participate, too.

I came to Ultra almost 3 years ago. Before my arrival, Ultra was using an ad agency to design their marketing pieces with guidance from one of our founding partners (Chris Furlong) and our VP of Marketing (Ryan Gonzales). Once I joined, we started creating the pieces in-house, and I took the design on myself. It was a lot of work, but problem-solving as a team of three was so much fun. We had great synergy, and I knew I was a part of something special.

My design team is a group of five incredible designers, each with their own specialty. From print design, to web/app UI, to animation, we can create almost anything. Starting with a blank canvas isn’t always easy, but knowing we're fully-loaded with a smart, fast, and creative group of experts makes it fun to tackle any challenges sent our way.

Ad Architect was developed as a way to allow Master Agents, Account Reps, and Retailers create their own custom marketing materials. As a company, Ultra seeks to reach each and every customer in their language and

shout their most perfect plan, so Ad Architect is the solution to creating those smaller but extremely important campaigns. We will continue to evolve the technology and add more features to create an ever-growing toolbox for our doors to market for themselves.

I can appreciate cats, but I jive more with the canines. I’ve got two of my own: My first dog Tucker was the original “Ultra dog,” as he was the first to take advantage of our “Dogs Allowed at Work” policy. Then there's Cooper, the puppy with an insatiable desire to fetch anything and everything. My goal is to turn him into a Frisbee dog – he hasn’t learned how to catch yet, but we’re working on it!

I’ve been a surfer nearly all my life, and I got into yoga quite a few years ago, but lately the biggest impact on my fitness is Crossfit. I’ve been at it for about two years now, and have surprised myself with what I've been able to accomplish. For example, I couldn't do a single pull-up when I first began, and now I’ve got 9 unbroken as my record! In addition to gaining some intimidating muscles, I'm learning so much about what I'm capable of physically – it's such a great feeling.

If there's one thing I've learned about traveling, it's to aim for longer stays in fewer places. I’d spend the full week in Bali and surf, do yoga, relax in a hammock, and drink from a coconut. //
