Project steps

Presenter
Presentation Notes
leaders need to engage colleagues to identify what matters to them in their work. This step is about asking the right questions and really listening to their answers to identify what contributes to or detracts from joy in work for staff. Listening to understand, not listening to respond — that's the key here.

Many variables were involved with the data collection – Six week collection first time, only five obtained second time; staff changes occurred; biggest variable is that the office moved from a fragmented office in the Locust Bldg. to a cohesive space in the Considine Professional Bldg.

, leaders identify the processes, issues, or circumstances that you might call impediments. So things that we might describe as the pebbles in the shoes that get in the way of meeting professional, social, and psychological needs. Steps 1 and 2 often happen in the same conversations and continue over time. Having conversations about what really matters that each person builds the trust that we're going to need in order to identify frustrations that they experience during the workday. This may sound obviously, but one truth that stood out to us in the research was that everyone must feel like their ideas, opinions, and comments will be listened to. And they need to feel that before they're going to be open and honest in their responses. We took this information and grouped it by themes and high-priority items. We ran these by staff focus groups to make sure that these were still reflective of what the teams were feeling, and we ended up with four main themes to focus on.
