President’s Report

Hi All Sharks,

Congratulations to the Mums and Dads who turned up for our annual Social Evening. This year we returned to “Rosebank” in North Ringwood and it certainly offered an environment of sophistication. There were plenty of various dishes offered during the course of the evening and having two bars open led to fast service. The noise grew during the evening and the laughter was at fever pitch! A fun night had by all. Thanks to the nearly 100 in attendance for braving the cold evening.

The trouble a lot of the Mums had gone to in “dolling up” was great to see, if “Australia’s Next Top Model” had been present we would have seen many Sharks Mums on TV next year. Ladies you need to be congratulated, you all looked lovely.

Though it took a couple of attempts, soon the dance fl oor was buzzing with activity and sing alongs. To all, thanks for another fun fi lled night and plenty of memories. Well done Mike Newton and committee for all your assistance and endeavours on making a fantastic night occur.

Round 12 is behind us, only 2 rounds to go until fi nals. By golly, the season has certainly gone by fast. At the Sharks we pride ourselves on fi elding various teams whereby all Players can participate. Our goal is to get kids playing, engaging and improving in Australian Rules Football. You are all champions in my eyes for participating and being part of the Sharks Football Club. Finals and premierships are a by-product. That said, I note that we have 11 teams from U11 to Colts competing for fi nal’s positions this year. Best of luck to all in particular, may the Colts teams have a great fi nals series.

Thanks to all our Coordinators and all the Parents for helping out during the season. I hope all our young Auskickers have enjoyed learning new skills each Saturday. Our fi nal clinic in August will be visited by JFC Committee to cook the BBQ for our Players and Parents and answer questions regarding the move to the JFC.

Colts & Life Members Dinner

Tuesday 25th July saw all our Colts, Life Members, Past Presidents, Parents, Helpers and Representatives enjoy a wonderful dinner at Club Kilsyth. We shared on the foundations of how the Club has been built over the last 25 years with statistics and fi gures. This further continued into the Club’s vision going forward and the opportunities for all boys and girls being given the chance to be in a team environment and being part of something special. The PONRPJFC is a bastion to create positive growth whilst offering a pathway for every player and family to be the best they can be. The legacy we have inherited via previous Committees is important to us and the pressure to continue is acknowledged.

Thanks to Tom Feher our Seniors Captain and Tom Macrokanis – leader of our U19’s for their frank dissection of introducing Juniors to the honours of being part of the Senior Club. Well done guys in speaking so eloquently about your past and present fulfi lments and challenges whilst offering a pathway acknowledged into the POFC.

Burger Night – Sponsors Night

Our fi nal burger night (prior to the 10th September AGM – Presentation Day) is on Sunday 6th August. We will be holding our annual “Club Sprint” handicap event. Every team will be represented. Of course, the giant slide, raffl e and plenty of food will be available for all.

As a gesture of thank you to our sponsors, the Club will be putting on food and drinks at no

charge for them. Please make yourself known to Committee Members via your Sponsors card, to receive your complementary drinks and food. Our Sponsors are integral in keeping registration fees down and helping to purchase much needed training materials. Thank you to all our sponsors who have supported our great Club during 2017 and we look forward to your assistance during 2018. Please consult our Directory of Sponsors and where possible use the services they offer. I have on two occasions this year and received a discount!

Team Managers

Confi rming your de-briefi ng meeting with Paul Hayes at The Grand – Warrandyte on Thursday 27th July at 7:00pm. Please can you all try very hard to be there. The pack up and associated routines need to be explained to all.

Committee

At the end of the season, some Committee Members step down from their role of responsibility. If you think you could be a candidate to be involved next year, then please let me know. We have fi lled a number of on and off Committee roles but still require assistance. To our younger Sharks Members in U10 – U12 we will be making contact over the next few weeks to assess your potential involvement.

Park Orchards Red v Bulleen Templestowe B

Today we took on Bulleen Templestowe away with early start not being ideal for those who attended the event the night before. Mainly me.

Ryan Radle was our captain this week and was rearing to go.

We started the game slowly as we have in previous weeks with the boys feeling out the opposition. Ryan, Angus, Elliot and Darcy soon started to get the ball going forward but with an extra in the forward line it made scoring diffi cult, it took a while for the boys to get on the board but we persisted and worked hard to eventually register a major. Liam attacked the ball hard all day and fought hard to keep the ball up our end, Oliver, Kai and Thomas once again being our tall targets and Ben.H scouting the packs the boys managed to get a couple on the board even though we had plenty of the ball forward. Not to be outdone Bulleen worked hard to get the ball forward and managed to get on the board also, Patrick, James and Julian were dogged in defence using their pace to chase down the opposition and turn defence into attack while Henry saved out bacon on the last line of defence managed to trap the ball and once again provide Ben.N with 2 super handballs for Ben to dash clear and spot up the boys in the midfi eld. At quarter time the game was fairly even but I knew the boys had plenty in the tank.

Will and Xav spent the fi rst quarter playing for the U8 Black team and performed well.

Kicking into the wind the message was that we must play in front and for our defenders to work super hard and make sure they all have a player. James played a super 2nd quarter running hard getting the ball in the packs and breaking clear. Kai was strong in the contest and gave out a super handball whilst falling to the ground to Ben.H who was free and could dash clear and drive it forward. Ollie provided and great option for the boys to target when clearing defence. Just another strong marking option for the boys when they need to kick long.

Xavier was reminded to make sure he played in front and be around the ball and to back himself and attack the ball. This resulted in a fantastic pack mark going back with the fl ight, super stuff, Ben.N backed up his fi rst quarter with another solid display with a defence fi rst mindset then attack when we have it and run forward to be an option. Thomas worked hard as well as Ryan and Angus ferocious tackling and constant pressure.

Henry up forward is making huge leaps and making sure he gets to as many contests as possible providing opportunities for his teammates around him to feed of his hard inside work.

The boys moved the ball from defence to attack with a series of clean marks (not the token ones) but got clean football that resulted with fast movement that had Bulleen stretched in defence and with the handball king Will and the ever alert Pat combining to score a fantastic team goal, with the opposition hanging off Will he didn’t try and go for glory but dish it out to Patty who was clear and easily slotted it. Darcy and Liam worked hard manning up when Bulleen kick it in with Darcy reading the play well and kicking a major himself. Liam once again attacking the ball and is now becoming a feature of his game. Well done Julian and Elliot who played the 2nd Qtr with the U8 Black boys.

The half time oranges provided some energy and the boys kicked into another gear, the premiership quarter and kicking with the wind could have easily pilled on the goals but unfortunately Ben.N left his kicking boots at home but he anaged to kick a couple late in the quarter to kick away from the opposition but could have easily kicked a bag, Angus and James combined well with both boys working hard to get the ball clear by with some one 2 handball back and forth until Angus found Henry who worked across to the contest to help his teammates and put him in the clear where Henry

found space to use his big kick and kick a great goal. Ryan’s pressure resulted in Bulleen kick it out on the full and Ryan was rewarded with a shot at goal from the pocket but could only manage to kick a point from a tight angle.

Ollie, Kai, Elliot, Will and Darcy didn’t have a great deal to contend with in the 3rd but they made sure they all had a man and when the ball did come their way they effi ciently sent it back the other way.

A lack of height in the midfi eld was well made up for with the boys big hearts and with plenty of determination and pace Patty, Liam, Xavier and Ben.H combined magnifi cently with handball and strong attacking running that left Bulleen fl at footed and chasing the boys around. Well done Ben.H and Thomas for helping the U8 Black tem during the 3rd.

With our dynamic ruck due Ben.N and Henry continually giving us fi rst use and getting it down to Will and Thomas as well as each other with a little backwards tap to a free playing standing behind the boys moved the ball with precision, one fantastic piece of play was Ben back to Henry who handballed it to Will running off to his side who then kicked forward for Elliot to mark directly in front. Patty fi nished the day the way he started down back cleaning up the crumbs and clearing the zone, Liam who is fast becoming such a reliable consistent player always in helping his teammates, James who has pace to burn and determination to match, just crashing into packs and ripping it out, Ben.H cracking in as usual and Olliver with his desperation kept Bulleen under the pump and struggling to fi nd space.

All their hard work meant that the forward line couldn’t let them down and kicking into the wind kept their backline under pressure, when kicking in they all worked hard to fi nd a man and not let it out. This resulted in many opportunities to try and hit the score board. Elliot fantastic mark in front and goal, Xavier cutting everything off and driving it to the goal line where Ryan snuck clear and took a nice mark only to play on and be run down but fortunately was awarded a free kick for in the back and kicked truly. Xavier with a clever banana out of the pack and Julian with his trademark wheel around onto the left for a goal meant the boys fi nished strongly and showed the under 9’s sitting on the sidelines how it is done. Again well done Darcy and Angus for playing with our U8 Black teammates.

This meant that all kids from both teams and both clubs could all play a full game so well done to everyone.

Park Orchards 3.2.20 defeasted byBanyule 9.6.60

The fi rst quarter saw us kick into a strong breeze and we didn’t handle it well. The opposition moved the ball well with long kicks into space and took their chances to kick fi ve unanswered goals, some of them very special! No matter what we tried we could not get out of fi rst gear. Their number 25 played a ripper of a game, dominating play and winning a lot of contested ball.

In the second quarter it was our turn with the breeze and we asked the boys for a strong response. We had control of the play but unfortunately could not put it on the scoreboard. While we held them scoreless, our crowded forward line was only able to put one goal on the board and we went into half time well down.

The third quarter was into the wind again and we asked the boys to fi ght with all their might. We wanted to kick to the defensive side of the ground and just nullify every contest. The boys only allowed two goals through and their pluck and will was outstanding. We opened up our forward line in the last quarter and scored a few goals….could we pull off a miracle? But it wasn’t to be this week. After getting jumped in the fi rst we could have dropped our heads but the boys stuck at the task and the coaches were very pleased with that. We will bounce back next week!

Park Orchards 7.5.47 Lost toFitzroy 2 10.11.71

Well another early start at an away game we were ready to take on Fitzroy after squaring the ledger last time we played. Only problem was that Fitzroy structured up very well right from the fi rst bounce and managed to kick a goal within the fi rst minute and their second a minute later. Our boys weren’t playing badly Fitzroy just didn’t let us touch the ball. Our back line was under siege as Ozzie was holding the troops together. Tom S was dominating in the ruck but our on-ballers just couldn’t get to the ball. One thing the boys were doing well was to get back and help out in defence tackling was really picking up, again lead by Ozzie, Broc and Lucas as the boys were starting to shift the momentum.

Even though Fitzroy had kicked the fi rst 6 goals of the game our boys never gave up and never really looked out of the game.

The highlight of the quarter came in the last minute when Broc gathered the ball passed beautifully to Lucas who then turned and found Charlie with an excellent kick and an equally good mark. Charlie then went back and struck the ball superbly as it sailed thru at post height. Great passage to fi nish. 1/4 time – PO 1.0.6 trail Fitz 6.3.39

After some positive reinforcement and a quick bit of coaching to Tom on ruck work and Lucas on reading the ball saw this combination work perfectly at the fi rst bounce as Tom bought the ball down to his left side as Lucas pounced onto the ball them streamed out of the middle and sent the ball forward as Elliot sweeped across half forward to mark a well delivered kick, played on, ran his distance and kicked a fantastic long goal. Another brilliant passage. Archie and Ozzie were now dominating across half back as both guys were getting the ball out of the packs and tackling very well, Charlie’s marking was outstanding and Broc was having his best game in weeks and Will was giving us real value in the back pocket and now all the boys are playing with confi dence.

James was having a great quarter and has this uncanny ability to kick the ball at 180 degrees to the direction he is standing and it was this skill that saw James kick his fi rst goal for the club. Ironically, his mate Broc who came to the club together found himself inside the forward arc as he gathered the ball, ran to space and kicked a beautiful long goal on the run for his fi rst goal for the club as well.

An excellent quarter of footy from the boys to fi ght back and get themselves right back into the game. 1/2 time – PO 4.1.25 trail Fitz 7.3.45

Again, Tom S was brilliant in the ruck and Lucas was learning a lot about reading the ball in the ruck contest. Ozzie also continued his great form in defence and just reads the fl ight of the ball so well it sets him up for his next attacking move. Charlie was also having a really strong game at CHF, a very tough position to play, and his marking was outstanding. Broc, Corey, Archie and Elliot all continued to work hard in their positions. As Fitzroy were trying to run the ball out of their defence Lucas chased and chased and chased this kid who though he was clear. Lucas never gave up the chase and bought him to ground, this was extremely pleasing to watch as a coach. The best part was that it was against the fl ow of the game and we then locked the in the forward line at the bottom of the pack was Jedd who picked up the ball and with great strength broke a tackle and snapped a great goal. 3/4 time - PO 5.2.32 trail Fitz 9.11.65

Even though the scoreboard didn’t favour us the boys continued to play a very positive style of footy and they never gave up. Jack I had been quiet by his standard so in the last quarter we got him to run with their small, fast on-baller and for 15mins Jack really took on the challenge and the positive approach was great to see as I hope he learnt a lot from this challenge. Ollie running on the wing was having his best game for the year.

The boys kept attacking right till the fi nal siren. Tom S took an excellent marking in the forward line and as he were trying to encourage him to kick at goal he knew it was too far out but he had the confi dence to kick and hit his target in Lucas who had been trying hard all day kicked his fi rst for the day. Then after kicking a couple of points Lucas kicked his second goal for the quarter a couple of minutes later and fi nished the game in great form.Full Time – PO 7.5.47 lost to Fitzroy (2) 10.11.71

Even though we didn’t get up today the boys showed great commoradary today as they played for each other and never gave up.

The great thing is that the boys realise that they need to play 4 quarters of good football if they are to complete against the good sides. They are learning a lot and it looks like they really enjoy playing footy which is the main thing.

Fun, Friendship and football…

Early start today with team photos and a 1 hour wait before game time. We did some centre work clearances as a warm up and spoke about the need to switch on early.Captain for the day Tom Worthington inspired the troops with his Captains speech before leading the lads out onto Domeney. We kicked into the wind in the 1st quarter and could see from the outset that it was going to be a tight / congested game. Our half backs and midfi eld held their nerve and did not get sucked into our forward line as Surrey Park crowded their backline. Will Armstrong chimed in for his 1st goal for the Sharks to get us on the board early and this was quickly followed up by the 1st of 3 to Max Dominko. Will Tait starting across half back attacked the ball as he usually does and continually drove the ball forward. Daniel Albers and Oli Nitz were playing good team football as they continued to do all day. Gabe Stumpf playing across the backline was solid and Jack Fortington’s chase & tackle resulted in a goal to Max as we kept the ball deep in our forward line.Cam Turner came off the bench and had an immediate impact as he used his speed to the team’s advantage. Jake Galstians and Jacob Tymms both played 4 quarters of hard tough football as they usually do.Our forward line opened up late in the 2nd quarter and with that space, this enabled Max Dominko and Josh Smillie to kick 5 goals between them. With the number of forward entries created by the running brigade of Lachlan Quinn, Josh Galstians, Jake Galstians, Joel Stephens, Lachlan Di Conza, Cam Turner and Daniel Albers we need to work as a team to create space for our forwards and not get sucked into bombing to packs.Harry Smit started off in the 3rd with a solid mark in the centre of the ground. Andrew Holt-Oakes who was playing his 2nd game back after a long injury lay off was pivotal not just in the ruck but when moved to full forward. His efforts in the air and on the ground were second to none and he was rewarded for his efforts with a great (Drop kick) goal (also joint winner of the Best Player Medal).Lachlan Quinn played in the forward line all day due to a leg strain and was awesome – his ability to read the play, turn in on his left foot and always kick to the right spot was great. Tom Worthington and Joel Stephens both received a rev up and both responded. Running, competing, 2nd and 3rd efforts tackles and both were worthy recipients of the Best Player Medals.Nathan Draeger applied himself well today and on many occasions read the ball way better than his opponent and most importantly did the team things.Gabe Stumpf played a great game, particularly across half back – we all know Gabe can play and is a dangerous forward but his knack of reading the play also means he has the ability to be a dangerous and attacking half back fl anker – New feather to your bow Gabe and well played after some very strong intercept marks and stacks of possessions.Lachlan Di Conza continues to work hard and just keeps making the contest and getting his hands on the ball, spoiling and intercepting, chasing and tackling – another great game Lachy. It was a scrappy fi nal quarter (with Surrey Park clogging up our forward line) but 2 more goals to Josh Smillie (incuding1 big bomb) sealed it for us. Oli Nitz played another dominant game in the ruck again beating a bigger opponent as he has done all year.It was a dour win, but one we should learn a lot from. Dominating the game without really hurting the opposition. Top of the ladder Banyule next week and one we should all be looking forward to, just to see how far we have come this year.Great Stuff fellas

Greythorn 6.6.42 defeatedPark Orchards 3.5.23

What a turnaround in effort from the boys this week. Although we didn’t go home with a win, we did go home with our heads held high with all 18 boys putting in a much better effort than the week before. When we turn up and play we are competitive with any team in this division, we just need to be prepared, be confi dent and give it 100%. Brady King was our captain for the day and won the toss which gave us the wind in the fi rst quarter. The boys got away strong with Flynn taking 3 early shots at goal with one converting. The boys fought hard in the second trying to keep Greythorn contained. Greythorn kicked 3 goals before Sam P kicked one of the ground to reignite the boys. We went into the 3rd quarter still with a chance kicking with the wind. Greythorn stacked their backline line making it diffi cult for us to score. Into the 4th and it was still a game in balance. The boys ran their hearts out and we rewarded with Lachlan kicking a great goal under pressure.

BacklineBrady – Our captain for the day. Put in a great effort chasing the ball down and keeping the pressure on. Adamo – Played on Greythorn’s tallest player all day and put in a huge defensive effort!Finn – Laid some great tackles. Just needs to keep his arms a little lower at times. Had a great last quarter.Aidan – Another consistent game. Some beautiful kick outs and just so reliable in the backline. One of our great additions this year. Will – Cracking game. 4 great quarters of tough football. Silky smooth all day.Dante – Awesome game. His run-down tackle was the highlight of the day which set the tone for the team.

Midfi eldOli P – Consistent on the wing. His intensity built during the day with a really strong last quarter.Kye – Showed some glimpses of his speed around the pack. The ball didn’t quite bounce in his favour this week but still a great game.Sammy P – Another big possession game capped with a goal. Led from the front and was a real work horse.Flynn – Another tough game. Kicked a goal, got a bloody nose and still kept on giving it his best. His tackling was another standout.Sam V – Rucked for 3 quarters and really gave it 100%. He ran hard all day and competed strongly. His best game of the season to date.

ForwardsConnor – Tried hard and gave us a forward target all day. Greythorn had a few tall players in their backline which made it hard for Connor to stamp his authority on the game. Played strongly in ruck in the last quarter.Bailey – Put good pressure on the ball when it was in the forward line. Bought it to the ground to create a competition.Lachlan – Kicked a telling goal under pressure. Ran hard to create a competition. Lachlan is our barometer. When he is on the boys are all on.Daniel – Steeping up each week. Not a huge amount of possessions but a huge amount of endeavour and pressure. Some great tackling and running.

Back on home soil the Under 12 Reds were keen to avenge a couple of losses to Glen Iris earlier in the season. The teams had appeared evenly matched and we were expecting a good contest with second placed team. With injuries and holidays we were down to 17 whilst Glen Iris had 15 meaning we got an interesting photo when our boys played on the opposition (see photo).

Due to team photos our boys were raring to go by the time the siren went. Captain Sammy Stephens got us playing toward the goal kicking end as we piled on 4.7. Cooper was dominating in the ruck and running hard both ways, helping out defence and then kicking one goal from an I50 mark, the fi rst of fi ve for the day, his best game of the year. Oscar was also on the scoreboard early with two of his three. Yared was also a strong focal point at CHF and was rewarded with a goal. Around the ground there was some link up play with clean hands. Sammy H was presenting well along the wing and sending the ball I50 to Fraser. In the midfi eld, Joel, Josh, and Sebi were combining well to deny the Glen Iris midfi eld fi rst use and getting us going forward. Meanwhile at the back Ben W was showing good attack on the ball to rebound a Glen Iris attack, whilst Brad O and Tobias were their reliable selves at FB and CHB respectively.

The second quarter played out in similar terms, we peppered the goals (2.4) whilst Glen Iris got their only goal. David got down and dirty in the middle working well with Josh and Joel. After spending time in the forward line Brad H went back to FB where he is so reliable. This allowed Brad O time in the forward line. He attracted the ball and brought down some nice marks in front of goal and was rewarded with a goal. Zac and Ben E spent time on the HBF, then Zac played some hard attacking footy on the wing whilst Ben E worked hard in the midfi eld. Nick spent time both the half forward and half back line and was his usual energetic self.

At half time the boys were urged to keep up their intensity as this had previously been a time where we dropped our guard. To our boys’ credit they responded and kept their foot on the pedal kicking 7.2 for the half. Glen Iris started to show their frustration and Josh copped a lot of heavy hits in the clinches, but to his absolute credit he remained focused on the ball and gave fi rst use time and again. The boys indeed stayed focused and fi nished off a complete

Game Report: Round 12 saw the U13’s Reds back on their home track Domeney Reserve to take on Glen Iris in Jake Trembath’s 100 game.

After losing the Toss and kicking against the breeze the side settled early and applied great pressure all over the ground to hold Glen Iris to just one goal. We had one opportunity to score but Darcy after a lovely gather pushed his kick wide.

Someone must have stepped on a black cat at Qtr Time…in the space of fi ve minutes Cristian went down after a heavy knock and Jake was left concussed after a head clash. We battled on but we didn’t take advantage of the breeze in the 2nd Qtr only managing to score a behind for the term.

Half Time in the rooms the news just got worse..There was Lucas with ice to his right knee and struggling to walk..

Nathan from the U13’s Black team was thrown into the ruck and played a pivotal role in giving our mids fi rst use in the guts throughout the second half. All this pressure didn’t coincide to the scoreboard. Although holding Glen Iris to one major for the term we were held scoreless for the third term.

3Qtr time…23 points down but we knew we weren’t out of it…

We shuffl ed the side about. Schafer to CHF, a hobbling Lucas to FF and a sore Cristian to the Fwd pocket.. Ryan Dickenson was moved to CHB to give us more run…With Alex, Brodie and Josh creating havoc in the middle we fi nally got on the board. Criso snapped truly and there was a sense of belief within the crew. This was followed soon after with another set shot goal from Cristian.

Out of the middle again Lucas marked but was unable to convert. Pressure from everyone kept the ball in the forward half. A quick kick out of the pack was marked by Jeshua who converted to give us three for the term, but more importantly only 4 points behind with three minutes to play.

Glen Iris responded with a goal against the run of play and that’s where it fi nished.

10 points down at the fi nal siren…

Well Done to all…effort was there right to the last minute, just needed a little luck to fall our way.

A special thanks to Nick and Tom Macrokanis ( trainer and runner ) for their swift actions in assisting Jake and Cristian.

Thanks also to Nathan Gagliardone (U13 Blacks) for fi lling in with his side having a bye.

Round 13 sees the Sharks away to tackle Surrey Park

Milestone: Jake Trembath – 100 Games..Well Done.

St Marys 8-14-62 def Park Orchards 4-3-27

In blustery conditions we played away at St Marys home ground.

In our fi rst encounter with St Marys in round 5 we were beaten 150 to 12 , so we had nothing to lose.

In the 1st & 2nd quarters we were we’ll in the game Riley strong at CHF ,Luca and Kane combining well at CHF. Excellent clearance work from Ethan in to Rohnan to a hard contest on to Fraser who kicked to Will for a goal. Continues running and commitment from Jarrod and the on ballers Nick, Kane, Flynn had us only 5 points behind at half time . A great effort by all.

In the 3rd & 4th quarters had Ben Jefferies on the wing winning everything and many other clear winners on the ground for P.O, Josh, Ethan, Jarrod Will, Flynn, Fraser and Rhys.

In the end we only stopped for 7 mins in the 3rd quarter and the last 5 in the 4th.

All the boys should be very proud of themselves. A hard fought game in trying conditions. They never stopped contesting, chasing, nagging and competing.

Very proud parents and coaching staff with today’s effort, the hard work is paying off , a 103 point turn around, excellent .

Unfortunately numbers are still a huge issue for us and a big thank you to Flynn, Ed ,Finn, Rohnan, Ben and Josh who came up from the U13 to give us a hand and take our numbers to 19 players. They all did a great job.

Looking forward to Tuesdays training

This week we were without the supercoach who was too busy building Snowmen on the slopes of Mt Hotham.

His side kick Steve Wallis who has a 100%-win ratio when the supercoach is away again stepped up to the big challenge of coaching the boys. This was a must win game for the sharks. We were playing against another quality opposition in St Marys who are also in the top 4. The conditions were very wet and slippery and our boys really worked hard to maintain their feet in tough conditions.  Wally’s move to throw Munro forward in the last 5 minutes to win the game was the winning move as Munro kicked the last 2 goals.

It was great to see when the sharks were threated in the last 5 minutes our endeavor and desperation lifted and we found another gear to win the game. Overall it was another good team effort. I believe this team still has a lot of improvement to come.

Park Orchards 18.12:120 defeated Preston 00.01:01

This week saw us with a full list for the fi rst time this season. Seventeen girls ran out onto ground including a few faces that we had been missing greatly – Alana Podolak and Zarah Brumley returned after extended breaks and Jess Zachariah was back after missing the last two games.

Our Captain for the day, Chloe Rice, won the toss and elected to kick into the breeze. Our fi rst quarter was nothing short of sensational. We kicked our fi rst goal at the one minute mark and by the 8 minute mark we had kicked 4 goals, 3 of which came from Jess. Welcome back Jess !!

We kicked six goals for the quarter and with the exception of a goal to Bri after a strong, contested mark all of our goals came from passages of excellent team play. One of our many highlights for the quarter was our last goal which saw Jaya kick a great goal on the run after we had transitioned the ball from our defensive fi fty without Preston touching it (Issy to Chloe to Alana P to Jaya). Our girls were applying pressure all over the ground and our tackling was fi rst class.

Aided by the breeze the girls continued their fi ne form and kicked four goals for the quarter. Chloe was playing another fi ne game at C.H.F and fi nished with 4 goals for the day. Gabbi and Nat were winning plenty of contested possessions in the midfi eld and were well supported by Bri, Alana P, Alana D, Issy and Maggie.

As has become custom over the course of the season, our defenders were making life for the opposition forwards very unpleasant. Jazzie, Matisse, Alex, Tahlia, Grace, Zarah and Lexi all played signifi cant roles and ensured that the ball was quickly removed from our defensive 50. They did not allow Preston to score in the fi rst half and in fact Preston did not registered their single point until the dying minutes of the fi nal quarter.

To allow a team to score only a single point in 80 minutes of footy is an unbelievable achievement and one that all of the girls should be very proud of.

The second half saw more of the same and we recorded a very satisfying 119 point victory. We switched the girls around in the 2nd half which resulted in a couple new names appearing on the scoresheet, Alex (two goals) and Matisse (one goal). Matisse could have added a second goal to her tally but chose to provide a shepherd that allowed Gabbi to kick an easy goal. Well done Alex and Matisse !

Despite the one sided scoreboard, Preston applied pressure to us for the entire game and we certainly had some very sore and tired girls afterwards.

We have another home game this week against Parkside before our fi nal game against Surrey Park (Top of the table clash !).

Go Sharks !
