DMRC LINE 3: DOUBLE TRACK UNDERGROUND STATION AT

BARAKHAMBA ROAD

CLIENT: DELHI METRO RAIL CORPORATION LTD

PROJECT PERIOD: AUG 2002 TO DEC 2005

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The project is situated on the 8-lane Barakhamba Road, which is an arterial road of Connaught Place with prestigious and high-rise commercial establishments on either side. Careful planning was required in the execution of work to ensure that at least four lanes were available to existing traffic at all times. The project consists of a double track underground station (250 m long, 30 m wide) with rectangular tunnel on either side. Total length of project is 645 m constructed by cut-and-cover method with “top down” approach with maximum depth of excavation as 18 m. Diaphragm wall was preferred over other methods such as sheet piling, soldier piles etc. to avoid excessive noise as well as to minimize the effect of construction on buildings in the vicinity. Seismic analysis for the project was carried out adopting state-of-art methodology for underground structures.

CENTRAL SECRETARIAT-GURGAON CORRIDOR

(DMRC CONTRACT BC-16)

Client: CEC-SOMA JV

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The project comprises of 4 nos. underground stations and tunnels between ch.21150.80m to 24600.00m. The stations are at Race Course, Jorbagh, INA and AIIMS. All the stations were constructed by cut and cover method. 800mm thick Diaphragm walls were installed for “top down” method of construction. The length of each station is 318m & width is 21m including 20m workshaft areas of both ends for launching & retrieval of Tunnel Boring machines. The stations consist of island platform with trains on both sides. The clear span for the roof slab is 20.65m The project was done in association with M/s CECI, Taiwan. TCPL involvement was to design all stations & temporary structures etc. while the Tunnel and workshaft designs were carried out by M/s CECI Taiwan

CENTRAL SECRETARIAT- BADARPUR CORRIDOR

(DMRC CONTRACT BC-24)

Client: ITD-ITD CEM JV

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The project consists of tunnel and 3 nos. stations between km. 0.684 to km. 6.100. The three stations (Khan Market length239m & width 20m, JLN Stadium length 300m & width 20m and Jangpura length 285m & width 20m ) under construction are in extremely difficult and sensitive areas. The stations are to be constructed generally by “bottom-up” construction. The Jangpura station is located below the flowing waters of the Nallah Drain, and will be constructed by “top-down” techniques. The launching and retrieval shafts are a part of the station structure except near Udyog Bhawan where a full-fledged 60m long launching shaft is to be installed in rock which is sloping both transverse to as well as along the alignment. The project was done in association with M/s AMBERG, Singapore. TCPL involvement was to design all stations & temporary structures etc. while the Tunnel and workshaft designs were carried out by M/s Amberg

DETAILED DESIGN AFTER AWARD OF WORK TO AFCONS-TRANSTUNNELSTROY JV The project consists of tunnel and 9 nos. UG stations for Package 1 and Package -5 for The North South and East West Lines of Chennai Metro Rail Corporation. The Chennai Central station in Package -1 is an interchange station with a total depth of approx 30m below the ground level. Construction is in extremely difficult and sensitive areas. The stations are to be constructed generally by “Top Down Method” of construction. The project involves design and planning for all activities related to Under ground stations, D-walls, Workshaft areas, crane movements, cut and cover ramps, ventilation shafts, Calculation of BOQ’s, drawings for tender, Instrumentation schemes etc. The project is done in association with M/s PB World, Singapore. TCPL involvement is to design all stations & temporary structures etc. while the Tunnel designs are carried out by M/s PB.

PRELIMINARY DESIGN DURING TENDERING The project consisted of tunnel and 19 nos. UG stations for The North South and East West Lines of Chennai Metro Rail Corporation. The design and planning for all activities related to Under ground stations, D-walls, Workshaft areas, Calculation of BOQ’s, drawings for tender, Instrumentation schemes etc. done for the contractor to bid for the project.

DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION LTD

PROJECT PERIOD: OCT 2001 TO OCT 2002

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT Detailed Design Consultancy for 60m long closed portion and 400m long open portion. The method of excavation is diaphragm wall construction in both open and closed portion. The closed portion comprises prestressed voided slab monolithic to diaphragm wall. The base slab is monolithic to diaphragm wall and anchored against uplift using soil anchors.

RAILWAY UNDER BRIDGE AT RAILWAY CROSSING NO. 7 BETWEEN SHALIMAR BAGH AND AZADPUR FRUIT MANDI, DELHI

CLIENT: PWD GNCTD

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECTThe project comprises construction of underpass using box pushing technique below railway track and rest of the portion to be constructed using diaphragm wall (D-Wall). The railway part within their ROW shall be got constructed by them and the portion that is outside the Railway Row shall be got constructed by PWD. Use of D-wall makes it possible to create a retaining wall with in the constrained space which is not possible in case of a conventional Retaining Wall. Similarly Box pushing makes it possible to create under-passage below live Railway Tracks.

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT Presently there is a heavy traffic congestion at the Rotary near the Domestic Airport, Delhi, especially during the morning and evening peak hours. It was found that majorly of the congestion was due to the large traffic volume from Delhi & Gurgaon going to Dwarka. Hence, it was decided to make a one way underpass from Delhi (Dhaula Kuan) & Gurgaon to Dwarka, below the existing Rotary. A combination of Diaphragm Wall (D-Wall) and Retaining Wall is being made to find an optimum of construction time and cost and yet find a feasible construction. At certain places, underlying rock is comparatively shallow, though still below the base slab of the underpass. A specialized construction detailing has been prepared to tackle such locations.

The project involved construction of a vehicular underpass of length 680m (approx.). The total diaphragm wall length involved in the project is around 750m which was designed for various excavation & construction stages anticipated to occur during construction. It also includes RCC base slab with tension piles and RCC voided slab at deck level integral with diaphragm wall in the closed portion of the underpass provided for traffic movement at ground level.
