Astudy,foundnewfiguresindicatethatapproximately:

Researchshowsthattherearesomefactorsassociatedwithaparent's/carer'sdrug/alcoholmisusewhichhavethepotentialtoincreasetherisktochildrenlivinginthesehouseholds.(HiddenHarm,2003and2007).Themoreriskfactorsarepresentthehighertheriskofnegativeoutcomes.
Parents'recognisingthetrueextentoftheaffectoftheirdrugandalcoholmisuseontheirfamilylifeandwantingtomakeappropriatechanges;Parents/carersputtinginplacesafeguardsforthechild;Parents'engagedwithservicesandcomplyingwithdrug/alcoholtreatment;Theextendedfamilyarefullyawareofthedrug/alcoholproblemandoffersupporttothechildren;Forthechildtodevelopaclosepositivebondwithatleastoneadultinacaringrole(includingparents,
siblingsandgrandparents)whocanprovidethemwithconsistentattentionandsupportandensurethatfamilyactivitiesaremaintained;Thefamilytomaintaincontactwiththeuniversalservicesthatcanprovidesupport;Forthechildtobeengagedinawiderangeofactivities,withinwhichtheycanrecognisethattheyare
