2010 TRANSPORT LAW FIRM OF THE YEAR IN THE UK
2010 MIDLANDS PROFESSIONAL
SERVICE FIRM OF THE YEAR “HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”
• We had a ‘pieced together’ solution for email– Content Checking– Virus Checking– Multiple vendors– Multiple support/maintenance contracts– Multiple invoices– High cost
• We had no archiving as such, just backups and Exchange journals– Manual Archiving/exporting of Exchange journals– Relying on backups to ‘get things back’ (which were not always as ‘reliable’ as you’d want)– Internal staff cost/effort in supporting this solution– No “easy” searching on any historical email content – massive effort to do this restoring data etc.
• Didn’t fit well with our BCP/DR Plans or our service delivery– Email is arguably the #1 business tool that’s needed in the event of a DR– Didn’t meet our users’ or clients’ expectations or our service delivery to them
The challenges faced before Mimecast
Implementation Considerations• Worries we had of migration to hosted services
– Possible Downtime?– Impact on users?– Complexity?– If it’s not broke, don’t fix it
• It was though…– Easy & quick– Excellent service and support from Mimecast/Partners– Ingestion Service– Seamless transition to a new and better world!
The things we about Mimecast• Archive Search – quick and easy (search 10 years worth of emails – in
seconds) with no restoration/waiting• Integration with Outlook – seamless access for end-users (not IT)• Full audit trail – useful for compliance/discovery requests• Security• Integrates with our AD – less admin for IT Department• Useful to HR Team and Heads of Departments• Core part of our DR plan• Cost – lower outlay per head in budget than piecemeal solution• Staff – don’t need internal resource tied up on ‘Email’• Compliance and regulatory requirements
• …it’s the a solution that I’ve been thanked for by the Management Team• It helps me sleep at night…honest!• Forms a key part of our DR plan – always available email solution• We tell our clients/prospects about this service as it demonstrates our
commitment to our service delivery to them• Continues to saves us money – staff, time, software cost and complexity• People and support at Mimecast and their Partners is 1st class• Like having another member of the team• Complimentary to DM system eg. WorkSite – Contextual v’s non-contextual• AV Scanning - goes through loads of engines at Mimecast – you couldn’t
afford this even if you tried• Multiple Data centres – Do you have these? And how much would it cost if
you did?
Wrapping up…
