11 BALANCES WITH CENTRAL BANK 

Income Tax on Profit has been computed at the rate of 35% on the Taxable Income arising from the Domestic Banking Unit

(DBU) and Foreign Currency Banking Unit (FCBU).

Basic Earnings Per Share (EPS) is calculated by dividing the Net Profit for the year /period attributable to Ordinary

Shareholders by the weighted average number of Ordinary Shares in issue during the period. The following reflects the

Income and Share data used in the Basic Earnings Per Share computation.

This represents the minimum cash reserve requirement of 7% of the deposit liabilities as required by the provision of Section

93 of the Monetary Law Act.Further there is no reserve requirement for deposit liabilities of the Foreign Currency Banking

The unquoted Investments are carried at Directors Valuation. The Directors valuation is at cost which is consistent with that of the preceding year.

The Bank purchased a Deep Discounted Bond from Serendib Capital (Pvt) Ltd on 1st August 2003 guaranteed by a Commercial Bank. The purchase cos

1,578 mn was settled by transferringpart of the Bank 's portfolio at its book value of Rs 978 Mn and balance in cash. The face value of the Bond amount

3,458 Mnand will mature on1 st August 2023. The Bankintends to hold thisbond till its maturity and is recorded at cost plusa porpotion of the discount ov

period to maturity based on its implicit rate of return of 4%.

26.2 Litigation Against the Bank 

a) One LT application is submitted before the labour Tribunal aginst the ceased of the Employment.

(b) Four customers have filed actions against the Bank in the Commercial High Court to prevent the bank from enforcing the

mortgages to recover it dues.

In the normal course of business, the Bank makes various commitments and incurs certain contingent liabilities with leg

recourse to its customers. No material losses are anticipated as a result of these transactions.
