Contraste Present Simple / Present Continuous• O Present Simple expresa hábitos, mais o Present
I usually eat salad, but today I’m eating lasagna.
• Co Present Simple adoitan empregarse as seguintes expresións temporais: every day / week / year (todos os días / semanas / anos), once / twice a year (unha / dúas veces ao ano), on + un día da semana en plural, etc. Co Present Continuous, en troques, adoitan empregarse estas: now (agora), at the moment (neste momento), today (hoxe), these days (hoxe en día), etc.
GRAMMAR Appendix
12Way to English ESO 3 Galician © B Burlington Books
• O Present Simple tamén adoita empregarse cos seguintes adverbios de frecuencia: always (sempre), usually (polo xeral, normalmente), often (a miúdo), sometimes (algunhas veces), never (nunca), etc. Estes colócanse diante do verbo, mais se acompañan ao verbo to be sitúanse detrás.
Susan is coming later.
I think this is a nice restaurant.(Coido / Opino que este é un restaurante agradábel.)I’m thinking about travelling around the world.(Estou pensando en / Estou formulándome viaxar arredor do mundo.)
Detrás ponse a partícula than. The red dress is cheaper than the blue one.
2. Se o adxectivo ten 2 sílabas ou máis, é longo e fórmase con more + adxectivo + than.My trainers are more comfortable than yours.(Os meus tenis son máis cómodos cós teus.)
• O comparativo de inferioridade fórmase con less + adxectivo + than (menos … que / ca / do que). The book is less popular than the film.(O libro é menos popular cá película.)
• O comparativo de igualdade fórmase con (not) as + adxectivo + as ((non) tan / tanto… como / coma).
My office is not as large as hers. (O meu despacho non é tan grande coma o seu.)
Paul is the strongest boy in the class. (Paul é o rapaz máis forte da clase.)
2. Se é longo, ponse diante the most. This is the most elegant shirt in the shop.
• O superlativo pode ir seguido das preposicións in, of e on. She is the best actress of all / on TV.
This is the least interesting book in the library.
Adxectivo compArAtivo SuperlAtivogood (bo/a) better bestbad (malo/a, mao/má)
worse worst
far (lonxano/a, afastado/a)
farther / further farthest / furthest
little (pouco/a) less least
13Way to English ESO 3 Galician © B Burlington Books
too … / (not) … enough• Too(de máis / demasiado) vai diante do adxectivo e
These earrings are too expensive for me.
• Porén,enoughponse detrás do adxectivo e significa “(o) bastante / abondo” ou “(o) suficientemente”. This pub is lively enough for us. E not + adxectivo + enoughsignifica “non (o) bastante / abondo” ou “non (o) suficientemente”. This place is not peaceful enough to study in. I didn’t feel full enough after the meal.

If he doesn’t find a job here, he will move to London.

Unless the swimming pool is open today, we will stay at home.
• Afirmativa: a condición exprésase con if + Past Simple, e o resultado con would (ou a contracción ’d) + o verbo na forma base.
If there were more policemen, people would feel safe.
If I had money, I could buy a new car.

Simple, e o resultado con would have + participio. If Phil had finished the project, he would have gone on
holiday.

O que muda son as conxuncións: no canto de if ou unless, empréganse by the time ((para)cando), when (cando), as soon as (tanprontocomo, encanto), after (despoisde(que)), the moment (that) (encanto), before (antesde(que)), once (unhavezque, encanto), etc. As soon as I get home, I will call you.
By the time he arrived at the cinema, the film had already started. (Cando chegou ao cinema, a película xa comezara.)

“Do you recycle?” she asked. She asked if / whether we recycled.
Son as que comezan cunha partícula interrogativa (what, who, where, when, why, whose, etc.).
“What are you doing to save water?” Jon asked. Jon asked what she was doing to save water.
She wanted to know / wondered why people still used
disposable products.
“Be careful!” he said. He told us to be careful. (Díxonos que tivésemos coidado.) “Please take the cans to the recycling bin,” she said. She asked me to take the cans to the recycling bin. (Pediume que levase as latas ao colector de reciclaxe.)Cando se trata dunha oración negativa, ponse not diante de to.“Please don’t drive too fast,” he said. He begged me not to drive too fast. (Rogoume que non conducise demasiado á présa.)
Reported offersPara pasar un ofrecemento a estilo indirecto ponse o verbo offer ou promise en pasado e, a seguir, o verbo en infinitivo con to.“I’ll help you with your homework,” she said. She offered to help me with my homework. (Ofreceuse a axudarme cos deberes.)Cando se trata dunha oración negativa, ponse not diante de to.“I won’t be home late,” he promised. He promised not to be home late.
“You should use energy-saving light bulbs,” he said. He suggested that I use energy-saving light bulbs.(Suxeriu que empregase lámpadas de baixo consumo.)

My favourite actress is Jennifer Lawrence. I first saw
her in the film The Hunger Games and I thought she
was great.
Jennifer Lawrence was born in Louisville, Kentucky,
US on 15th August, 1990. When she was 14 years
old, she decided to be an actress. She started her
acting career in the television comedy series The
Bill Engvall Show. After that, she appeared in several
films and received awards for her performance. After
Lawrence starred in the film Winter’s Bone, she
became famous. In March 2011, Lawrence received
the part of Katniss Everdeen in the film The Hunger
Games. At age 22, she received the Academy Award
