UNIT 30 – ADVERTISEMENT PRODUCTION FOR TELEVISION

WHY ADVERTISE?Advertisements have become an art form in their own way. Most companies want to be remembered for their advert style rather than the product they are promoting. A piece of evidence for this is the adverts at Christmas. Every big company has a style for their Christmas advert. For example for the past three years the john Lewis advert has involved either a modern pop star covering a song or has involved animated animals. For the last two years it has included both. In 2012 the song was Gabrielle Aplin’s cover of ‘The Power of Love’ by Frankie goes to Hollywood. In 2013 the song was Lily Allen’s cover of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ by Keane. In 2014 the song was Tom Odell’s cover of ‘Real Love’ by John Lennon. The advertisements that stand out for me is the compare the market advert. It stands out to me because it keeps the same characters and throughout the adverts they have told a story.

FORM - ANIMATION

• A animated advert is when it includes the use of animation/CGI to advertise a product.

• The animation I have chosen is the coco pops advert from 2007. Animated adverts are usually aimed at children and are usually advertising a children's toy/cereal. I think this advert’s target audience is children because it includes bright colours and it also includes animations of a crocodile and a monkey. These characters attract the target audience because they are quite childish and plus its entertaining for them. Another way the advertisement meets the needs of the target audience is because the writing shown is multi-coloured and it is in a fun kind of font as shown in the image below.

FORM - DOCUMENTARY• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=155NogWVBgo

• I have chosen to do this advert because the advert is literally based on real life. In the advert the parents of the child who went on NCS spoke about the changes they saw in their children after they came back.

FORM - NARRATIVE• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Lt_184QbBU

• The advert I have chosen to do is one of the final adverts in the compare the meerkat series. I have chosen to do this advert because I think its one of the saddest adverts in the popular series. In this advert it shows the meerkat’s arrive home after their trip to Africa without Oleg. They have made it look like they are Oleg's parents and he's just moved out.

FORM – STAND ALONE/SERIES

• The advert I have chosen to do is the advert that was aired before the advert I did for narrative. In this advert we saw Alexzander leave Oleg. This advert is advertising the car insurance site comparethemarket.com. In this advert it also lets you know that the Oleg toys will stop being sold.

FORM – TALKING HEADS• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZzWsHbjLWM

• The advert I will be talking about is the Asda Price Guarantee from 2011. In this advert we see normal people speaking about how much they have saved at asda. The benefit of using this advert is because they are normal people more of the audience will believe the advert.

STYLE - DRAMATIC• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-Ai5AGLgLM

• The advert is very dramatic because its basically saying that everything we do can resort in us dying by getting run over or in a car accident. Obviously if you cross a empty road you don’t have to look both ways and have the fear of getting remover as the advert portrays.

Page 9: Unit 30 – advertisement production for television powerpoint

STYLE - HUMOUROUS• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCKgCkubGc0

• I have chosen to do the aldi advert because they are funny and popular. I think that they are popular because they use people who are different ages and have different backgrounds. As a result of this everybody can relate to these adverts.

Page 10: Unit 30 – advertisement production for television powerpoint

STYLE - PARODIC• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG2l1_I4UUI

• I have chosen to do this advert because it is recent and it is also a parody for The Expendables. In the advert Sylvester Stallone pitches the idea to the manager of Warburton's.

Page 11: Unit 30 – advertisement production for television powerpoint

STYLE - SURREAL• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0WBiME_fM

• This advert is surreal because its never going to happen. Nobody will ever have something where whatever they touch turns to skittles but I bet we all know somebody who would want to be able to do that.

TECHNIQUE – EMOTIONAL RESPONSE• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcCecmrPZ24

• I have chosen to do this advert because I cant think of any advert that is sadder. This advert is sad because its about people needing something we take for granted on a day to day basis. Whenever I watch this advert or any other advert advertising a charity is that I feel privileged . I think most people feel this way other wise we wouldn’t donate money. These types of adverts highlight the fact that we are blessed to have the things we take for granted.

Page 13: Unit 30 – advertisement production for television powerpoint

TECHNIQUE – PEER APPROVAL• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rteM1p836go

• This advert is only aimed at teens and mid twenties this is because it only shows people who fit into this audience. The disadvantage of doing this is that people who don’t fit into this audience will be put off the product. The advantage is that the people in this age bracket will most likely buy it.

TECHNIQUE – RHETORICAL QUESTION •
