To achieve higher levels economic development the in GDP needs to be higher than the in the population.

In SA: Government has earmarked a growth rate of 5-6% in order to create jobs and reduce the unemployment. If this rate is achieved, 5mil jobs could be created over 10 years.

1994-2000 = Average 4% (GEAR: 1996-2003 -> High Interest and Inflation hamper growth)

2004-2008 = Average 5% (ASGISA -> Growth touched between 6 & 7% during this period)
