Demographics Demographics is data about the different characteristics of a population, such as the age, gender and income of the people within the population

Ways for films to attract the audience an get more people to watch the film is by using a higher budget, better technology exc.

Film distributors put certain film in certain areas because they think people in that population will go and see it. They want to know things like income bracket/status, age, gender, race, location, Once a media text has been made, the producer needs to make sure they are going to attract the audience with this film they do this by posters print, radio, TV and internet advertisements, trailers, Interviews with big stars on TV because people look up to celebrity's.

Examples of target audience The target audience is set by a production company to address who the programme or film is intended for.

For example Eastenders is for any age above 12, it is a soap which has a variety of characters from all ages, the events that happen in the soap are events what could happen to any age or any person.

Some girls is aimed at teenage girls so that means teenage girls would watch it, because they can relate to the story lines and experiences. When they’re showing school and home life issues, teenage girls might find comfort in knowing it’s not just them.

Top gear is another example because it is aimed at males from the age of 16+ because they have a interest in motorised vehicles. Top gear challenges old and new cars and therefore is enjoyed by males.

Star trek Star trek is a American science fiction programme made in 1966 by Gene Roddenberry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek

Personally I don’t like star trek myself but I can see why people do, if you liked science fiction you will like it. Star trek effected the world because it had lots of different people from different places and cultures. For example they chose a Scottish person the play the role the mechanic because Scottish people invented lots of stuff. The world went mad about this film, they didn’t just attract the star trek fan base, they attracted a new audience. they tried to promote the film everywhere, posters, trailers, on buses, on bus stops, in magazine adverts, on websites and blogs, social networking sites, the film decided to release on May 8th 2009 but the teaser trailer was realised In 2008. There is a new target audience this time was for mainly for men, aged 16-34 year old men, but because of the attractive cast, females were targeted too, as well as Trekies, and sci-fi fans, and for people who had gone to the old Star Trek films and liked them, people who has seen the series and old films but are not a strong fan like trekies.

What is a trekky

A trecki is someone who loves star trek, that’s what the fans call themselves. For example Justin Bieber fans call themselves ‘beliebers’. A Trecki is someone who has watched every single film and series of star trek, they go to star trek conventions dressed like characters from star trek.

They speak and say lines out of star trek films in everyday life with conversations with people. There are many Star Trek fan clubs, the largest one is currently Starfleet.A trecki will always love star trek, they buy various items about star trek such as action figures, dressing gowns, things for around the house. Some of them even have star trek mugs. They can watch the series over and over again and will not get bored.

Star trek trailer The star trek trailer had the world excited with anticipation, it’s a event film, everything about it is big, the director was big his name was J. J. Abrams. In the trailer, lots of different production companies are named, such as Paramount and Bad Robot which is JJ Abrams own production and if people see this they might recognize it and think it’s going to be a good film and go and watch it.

The shots in the camera of the trailer attracts the audience. Anyone who knows action/adventure would instantly feel attracted to explosions/robots/space/fast cars exc. People will see this trailer and be left on a cliff hanger, this means this will want to go watch it because the trailer finished not telling anybody what happens next.

A close up of the actors give the audience an idea of whether they have seen them in previous films, and whether they like them or not. Also, by having a close up of the attractive cast

Star trek poster

One of the film’s best ways to promote the film was to create a poster. The main characters are on the poster to help promote it, also Chris Pine is at the front to attract the female target audience, “star trek” is in quite small writing, this is because they people to focus on the special effects. The actors names are not mentions, only at the bottom of the page in small writing, this is because they want the actors to be recognised by there face and not there name, they also don’t want the audience to think the actors are unknown by people because then not many people will want to go and watch it. Also the poster is hi-teck looking and it doesn’t show much of what the film is about, the motorbike by the title gives us a modern vibe. All there facial expressions show that it is a serious film and is full of action.
