COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT (convenio colectivo):
Contract that sets out the working conditions for emplyees that have been agreed between trade unions and employers' associations (for a particular industry or a large company). Both employers and employees must fulfil their sides or the agreement.
DEMAND:
Goods and services that consumers want to buy.
ECONOMY:
System that organises the use of a country's resources.
ECONOMIC SYSTEM:
Way a society organises its economy.
ECONOMIC AGENT:
People, groups or institutions that activate the economy.
EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION:
Organisation that represents the interests of employers.
FACTOR OF PRODUCTION:
Resource used to produce goods or offer services.
GLOBALISATION:
Process of integration that affects economic, political and cultural systems across geographical boundaries.
GOODS (pl.: only):
Objects that have a use or value for the person who possesses them.
MULTINATIONAL:
Company or organisation that operates in several or many different countries.
RELOCATION:
Moving a company or factory to another country or area, e.g. Because costs are cheaper there.
RESOURCE:
Thing a person or country has that can be used for economic benefit.
STATE:
Political organisation of a country; its government.
SUPPLY:
Goods and services that are available for sale.
TARIFF:
Tax on a product imported from another country.
TRADE:
Activities related to buying and selling goods and services.
UNEMPLOYMENT:
Situation of people of working age who do not have a job but would like to have one.
UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT:
Money unemployed people receive from the government.
TELEWORKING:
Working from home or another location using telecommunications (telephone, fax, internet, etc.) to communicate with the company.
TRADE UNION:
Organisation that defends workers' rights.
UN (United Nations):
International organisation that was founded in 1945. It has 192 member states, and promotes world peace and international cooperation.
