Listening Script Ana: Are you going to the party tomorrow

night? Chris: Emi’s farewell party? Absolutely.

I’ll be there. Ana: Great. It’ll be so much fun. Chris: Yeah. Who else is going to be there? Ana: Oh, probably a million people! Emi

has so many friends.

Chris: Yeah, she does. Are you going to bring a present?

Ana: Sure. I’ll bring something. Chris: Hmm, what should I bring? Ana: Oh, Chris, use your imagination!

Flowers or a card would be nice. Chris: Ok, I’ll think of something. Sam: Emi, Emi, I think it’s time for a

speech.

Emi: I just want to thank everyone for coming… this is a really special day for me. I’m going back to Japan next week, but I’ll always remember my fabulous time here… and I’ll miss all of you. The comparison of fabulous and wonderful

fabulous adj. fable n. existing in myths and legends, based on the world of fairy-tale.

•e.g.

Cinderella is a fabulous character.

Wonderful: considered more formal than fabulous

e.g. a wonderful girl 漂亮的女孩

I think you can do it yourself.

Don’t use your imagination.(no negative form) Use your imagination does not mean “imagine”

Idioms of imagination:

beyond(all) imagination( 完全 ) 出乎意料地

draw on (one's) imagination杜撰 , 编造

have a good imagination想象力好 ; [ 谑 ] 很会说谎

have a poor imagination想象力差 ; [ 谑 ] 很不会说谎

To think of something: 可指“考虑，想象”

To think about: 围绕一件事进行思考，“思考，

琢磨，揣测。”

*: It is not very easy to distinguish the

difference between “of” and “about”.

“of” usually has a meaning of “consider”

“imagine”. “about” is used more often to

signal a deeper mental process.

Don't think of （ about ） me any more ．不要再考虑我。 They're thinking about （ of ） buying a new car ．他们正在考

虑买一辆新车。 What do you think of （ about ） the film ？你认为那部影片怎

么样？ think of 表示下列意义时，一般不和 think about 换用： 想要；打算。例如： Helen ， are you thinking of marrying To

Oral Homework 1) Imagine you are invited to a birthday party or

to wedding next week, ask your friend if he or she is going ,too, and talk about presents.

2) Supposed you learnt that your friend is free on coming Saturday evening. You invite him/her to a movie. But your friend doesn't accept your invitation.

day. B: Yeah, it wasn’t really a big party; there

were probably only eight of us there. A: Oh, that’s nice though. B: It was really fun. A: What did you do?

B: Oh, we played charades, we played Pictionary, we played Twister. Twister was hilarious. You should have seen Bob trying to play twister. He is like 400 pounds. No one could twist over him.

A: That must have been interesting. B: It was really funny. A: Was there any food or anything? B: Oh, the food was fantastic. Zara made

all of the food, and it was all vegetarian,, and it was delicious.

A: That sounds really yummy.

B: It was so good. A: Did you guys dance, or any music or

anything? B: No, we didn’t really. We listened to

music, but we mostly played games, charades was the best, because I am really good at charades.

A: So did you win most of the time? B: Of course, every time. A: Sounds like a good time. B: It was fun.
