III. Reading
Activity 1
Read the following text and answer the multiple choice questions circling
the correct answer:
The project meeting from Tarragona took place in November 2013 and the
representatives of all partner institutions participated.
There were teachers from Turkey, Romania, Spain and Italy who got involved
actively in activities and took important decisions for the project. Each teacher
held two lessons with Spanish adult students and presented PPT materials
about their country: culture, traditions, language, landscapes, places of tourist
interest, cuisine etc. After that, there were also exercises teachers used with the
adult Spanish students and grouping them differently made the activities more
interesting. In addition, there was an international dinner organised and each
reprsentative brought and presented traditional food from their own country.
There was also a trip organised to Montblanc village and Poblet monastery
when European teachers had the chance to communicate and exchange
opinions with many Spanish adult students who came along. Moreover, there
were organised two guiding activities with host adult students, one in the
evening and one in the morning, in which different groups of Spanish students
had to be the guides for the guest teachers and to present the ancient part of
their city with all the Roman walls, buildings, towers and remaining parts from
Antiquity.
The purpose of this project – creating real opportunities for students to
communicate using English and to improve their linguistic skills – was fulfilled
entirely and the beneficiaries, the students, appreciated as positive all activities.

Activity 2
Read the text below and decide if the following sentences are “Right”

The second Grundtvig project meeting took place in Istanbul in February 2014
and teachers from Romania, Italy and Spain took part in all activities organised
by the host institution.
There were presentations of their countries and cities delivered by the
European teachers to a large audience (Turkish teachers and students) in the
school auditorium. Moreover, the guest teachers held two lessons with Turkish
adult students presenting their countries with the help of PPT materials and they
also asked students to do some English exercises to enhance their
communication skills. In addition, there was organised an international lunch
and representatives from each country presented their traditional food offering
the others the chance to taste and to exchange cultural opinions. Guests and
hosts visited the Aquarium from Istanbul where they saw many types of fish and
other creatures living underwater. Furthermore, they visited also the most
famous historical places from the old city: Topkapi palace, Hagia Sofia, the Blue
Mosque, the Suleyman Mosque, the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Bazaar.

From Galata Tower they could admire the whole city and they could also enjoy
the Bosphorous tour by boat seeing the European and the Asian sides of the
city at the same time. The trip by boat to Buyukada island was an opportunity to
discover other beautiful things about Istanbul and the Taksim Square was one
of the places which were interesting to visit due to the social and historical
impact it has nowadays. In all these places, the Turkish students had the
chance to be the guest teachers’ guides and to present them in English their
city, history, culture and traditions, developing their English skills.
The feedback received from adult students showed clearly that the project
meeting was a real success because they had the amazing chance to work with
European teachers of English and to communicate in English enhancing their
own linguistic abilities.
