  • CHAPTER 2 Isolationists, Internationalists, and Lend-Lease Background: Between 1936 and 1939, Germany takes the Rhineland, Austria, most of Czechoslovakia without any battle. In September 1939 he demands part of Poland. Why? Hitler said the Germans in Poland were being mistreated What happens? WWII begins, UK & France declare war on Germany Meanwhile Germany and the USSR sign a secret Non-Aggression. Why does this make things easier for Germany? Russia is a huge power and Germanys neighbor to the East 1940 France falls to Germany The US thus becomes the only country that can help Britain. Should it have helped? How? Why?
