DePalo Eng. 10 Honors Unit I Research Paper 100 pts Due: October 29 Choose one of the following topics for your research paper: 1. Creation: The play, Inherit the Wind focuses on the conflict of religion vs. science and one aspect in particular that of creation. Although Christianity is the primary religion und er the microscope (so to speak), there are other versions of the creation myth throughout different cultures and religions. Research another religion/cultures version of creation. What elements of the story are similar to the Bibles version? What components are different? Use the Genesis version we analyzed in class to make your comparisons with the alternate version you find. Be sure to question and analyze both versions with a scientific mind. What meaning(s) are we supposed to take away from these creation myths? Make sure you reference specific opinions expressed in the play through examples in the various acts and scenes to support your comparison. 2. Human Rights Investigation: As the theme of the first unit implies, you are asked to choose a current human rights violation occurring either internationally or at home in the United States (this violation must be cleared with me before you begin your research). You must describe the violation, how it is a violation of human rights, specifically which right or rights it violates according to t he UDHR, why the violation occurs and how it i s affecting the people oppressed. You may also want to develop an action plan as to how this violation may have been prevented or how steps might be taken to stop the violation. Make sure you compare the human rights issue you are researching to the UDHR article(s) and any issues that are relevant or similar in the play. Address similarities between the play and the real-world issue as it pertains to ideals and values put forth in the UDHR.
