United Way of Portage County advances the common good
by creating opportunities for a better life for all.
United Way recruits people and organizations who bring
the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things
done.
We invite you to be a part of the change. You can give, you
can advocate and you can volunteer.
That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED™.
Our focus is on Education, Income, Health and Community Basics — the building blocks for a good quality life.
Prepare our children for success in school and life
Advance opportunities for people to maintain independent living and move people toward financial stability
Improve the mental and physical health of people in Portage County
Ensuring people’s basic needs of food, shelter, safety and community connections are met
COMMUNITYBASICS
Your gift has a direct impact on our community.
For just $1 per week ($52 a year), you can provide four
nights of emergency lodging at a homeless shelter for
someone who has fallen on hard times.
Or for $1.37 per day ($500 a year), you can protect 10 chil-
dren from tooth decay, giving them the confidence to keep
smiling well into the future.
At $500 or more you also join more than 900 other mem-
bers of our community in the Stevens Society.
Membership in United Way’s Stevens Society also affords
you an opportunity to further leverage your gift through a
generous $50,000 matching gift program from Delta Dental
of Wisconsin.
With your NEW OR INCREASED Leadership Gift, Delta Dental will give United Way a matching gift equal to the amount of the increase up to $100 for any individual or combined gifts of $500 or more in 2015.
Our Mission
Community Initiative
What we are doing
United Way of Portage County brings people and resources
together to achieve measurable results that improve people’s
lives and strengthen our community.
It pays to start smart. By investing in our youth today, our
community will be better tomorrow. As a result, in 2015 United
Way of Portage County moved forward with a community
initiative focused on early childhood learning.
United Way of Portage County is working with the area’s
leading authorities on early childhood learning to develop
multifaceted programming that will focus on children before
they reach school.
While this programming is still being developed, United Way’s
role will be to convene these experts, find resources to make sure
it is funded, and support this initiative to make sure results are
achieved. Stay connected to www.unitedwaypoco.org to keep
updated on progress.
The return on investment for every $1 invested in early childhood education can save $7 in the longterm through reduced costs associated with remedial education,
criminal justice and welfare payments.
