THE PARISH AS ONE BODY “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I do not need you.’ Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary . Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. “ (1 Cor. 12:17-25)

a duck tap-dancing on it. The circus owner was so impressed that he bought the duck and the pot from the owner. Three days later the circus owner ran back to the restaurant in anger. ‘Your duck is a rip-off! I put him on the pot before the whole audience and he didn’t dance!’ ‘Well,’ replied the former own-er, ‘did you remember to light the candle under the pot?’ We need candle-lighters to pick us up when we’re knocked down by bad news. These moments can leave you feeling as though you’re in a long tunnel, wondering when you will ever see light again. At these times, candle lighters hold up their inner lights, guiding you until you find an end to your worry and pain….Candle lighters have been fine-tuned by God to be com-passionate, caring, loving, and concerned. Candle lighters give comfort and relief, remove fears, and help carry the burden for those weighed down by darkness and despair. Once you’ve made it to the end of the tunnel, you’ll become a candle-lighter, too.”

The “Mary Grotto” donated by the Knights of Columbus as a tribute to Respect Life, is mostly finished. The statue of Our Lady of Grace will be installed once the stone work is complet-ed. I am not sure at this time when the final touches will round out the project, however when the time arrives we will have a proper dedication. The statue will remain covered until the dedication.

You will find a flyer in the bulletin this weekend which outlines the Divine Mercy Devotion for next Sunday. Everyone is wel-come to participate. I wish to extend my special thanks to Don-na Dostalik, Nina Visconti, and Christine Parker along with volunteers who will coordinate the various parts of the devotion.

Scott Kambak has another interesting and informative evening planned for our Junior High Youth Ministry on Wed., April 10th from 7:30 to 9:00pm. Our students will hear from a high school member of the “Dream Catchers” organization about their work to raise monies to grant the special wishes of elderly people. Last month’s presentation by Corporal DiCaprio of the Fuller-ton Police Department on his work as a liaison officer with the homeless and the poor and the city’s efforts to help was really inspir-ing. I enjoyed listening to him and his passion for his work.

Father Christopher Krymski, O.S.M., the pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica in Chicago and the director of the National Shrine of Saint Peregrine at the Basilica will celebrate our monthly Mass and prayer service in honor of St. Peregrine on Saturday, April 6th following the 8am Mass. Father Chris will preach and share stories about his work with cancer patients and shrine ministry. All in attendance will be blessed with the relic of St. Peregrine. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be administered to those who are sick or receiving treat-ment for cancer. Please plan on participating. Help spread the news. Let’s fill the church.

You will find copies of the March-April edition of The Catholic Worker in the bulletin shelves at the entrances of the church. On the back page of the paper you will read an article written by Megan Fincher on the topic: Contemplation and the Laity. She begins the article with these words: “Since the time I was a little girl, I have been drawn to the mystics, the stigmatics, the vision-aries and the prophets of our Church. It is comforting to read about these holy men and women, as they remind us that God had never stopped speaking to His children. Read the article. It is quite good.

In the Joy of Our Faith,

Fr. Frank Falco, O.S.M. Pastor

A blessed Easter to our parish family of St. Juliana and to all of our friends and visi-tors! Easter Sunday is particularly special this year as we celebrate Habemus Papam, “We Have a Pope.” We know that church-es world over will be filled to capacity this weekend and the goal of the “New Evange-lization” is to help the re-entry process for Catholics who have drifted away from the practice of our Catholic faith and tradition.

The address of Pope Francis to journalists and media personnel on March 16th in Rome may well be addressed to the Catholic faithful who find themselves puzzled or disillusioned by events of the past few years which the media have exposed almost dai-ly reflecting the human frailty of Church members and clergy who have or had positions of authority.

Cathleen Falsani, Orange County Register columnist, reported some of the statements of Pope Francis to journalists in the Sat-urday, March 17th edition of the paper along with her own re-flections. She writes: “As a person of faith, the work I do as a journalist is more than just a job. To me it is both a vocation (in the spiritual sense of the word) and, in some sense, a ministry. But I’m all too aware that not everyone would agree that jour-nalists fulfill any sort of higher calling. Happily, on Saturday I learned that Pope Francis is not one of them.”

Cathleen goes on to quote Pope Francis: “Rest assured that the church, for her part, is very attentive to your precious work….Like many other professions, your job requires study, sensitivity and experience. But it bears with it a particular atten-tion to truth, goodness, and beauty…It should be clear that we are all called, not to communicate ourselves, but rather…truth, goodness, and beauty.”

Cathleen then reflects: “When he was done with the personal greetings, Pope Francis again spoke to us. There was something he wanted to make sure we understood. Even though he didn’t say the traditional Latin blessing and make the sign of the cross over us, he had, indeed blessed us.” The Pope continued: “Many of you don’t belong to the Catholic Church, others are not believers. From my heart I impart this blessing, in silence, to each of you, respecting the conscience of each one, but know-ing that each of you is a child of God: May God bless You.” Cathleen ends: “There were tears in the eyes of some hardhead-ed (yet grudgingly tenderhearted) journalists in the room. And I’m not ashamed to admit I was one of them.”

Perhaps this Easter will be different for those whose hearts are heavy or burdened. Letting go of the past with openness to heal-ing, affirming with joy the gift of resurrected life, living with open hearts to new possibilities for our church and for each of us no matter where we are in our journey, will no doubt bring the blessing of our Risen Lord.

Father Joseph Sica has written a copyrighted booklet entitled “Lent 2013, Daily Reflections, Actions and Prayers” published by Twenty-Third Publications, New London, CT. The March 18th reflection entitled, “This Little Light of Mine” centers around the words of Jesus in St. John’s Gospel (Jn 8:12): “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in dark-ness.” Father Sica begins with a story and then a reflection. He writes: “A circus owner walked into a restaurant and saw every-one crowded around a table. On it was an upside down pot and

Each day of the month has been chosen by at least one parish in the Diocese of Orange so that day by day we as a people will be represented before our Eucharistic Lord. This program of Perpetual Adoration began in our diocese on November 27, 1977 under the direction of Bishop William Johnson. The spe-cial continuing intentions of this program are DEEPENING THE SPIRITUALITY OF OUR PEOPLE AND VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD AND THE RELIGIOUS LIFE. Both are issues of urgent concern to all of us. Christ once asked his apostles, “Can you not spend one hour with me?” Today he poses the same question to each and every one of us. Together with our parish priests, we invite every member of the Church, individuals and families and persons of all ages to say a firm and dedicated “yes” to Christ our Lord. It is our hope that as we go to make our hour of Adoration each month, we will not go as an individual or family just to pray for ourselves or for our friends, but we go with an awareness that by our presence and our prayers, we make the whole of the Diocese of Orange present, praising and thanking the Lord Je-sus for His goodness to us. Please join with the members of St. Juliana in assuring that our Perpetual Vigil with Christ is main-tained. Our presence to Him in this way is the best assurance that we will always be open to Him and welcome His presence in our midst.!

In Pagan times, many groups of people organized spring festi-vals. Many of these celebrated the re-birth of nature, the return the land to fertility and the birth of many young animals. These are the origins of the Easter eggs that we still hunt for and eat.

In Christian times, the spring began to be associated with Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. The crucifixion is remem-bered on Good Friday and the resurrection is remembered on Easter Sunday. The idea of the resurrection joined with the ideas of re-birth in Pagan beliefs. Christians celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday. The Easter date depends on the ecclesiastical approximation of the March equinox.

/,9,1**2'¶6:25' We pray to God on Easter that we shall never again see darkness. We ask God to open our eyes to know him in the breaking of bread and we ask for the strength to follow him in his risen life.

R C I A - RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Page Seven

/RUHQD)UREHQLXV is a stay at home wife and mom, married to Matthew Frobenius for 5 years, with 2 young sons, ages 4 and 2. She prayed for a God-fearing husband and the Lord led her to Matthew and the Catholic religion. Lore-na had been raised in the Lutheran Church, but Matt, her sponsor raised at St. Juliana’s, was only comfortable in the Catholic faith. So she joined RCIA in Sept., receiving it all with an open heart. Her Catholic grand-mother is pleased for her too! Lorena shared, “I am excited and can’t wait to see

the plans God has waiting for my family and me here at St. Juli-ana Parish.”

'RPLQJR0HOHQGH] was born and raised in El Paso, TX, moved to Fullerton in 1954, and married Frances Lopez 49 years ago. They have 4 adult chil-dren, including his sponsor Yvette Abbott, and 11 grandkids. Domingo had been at-tending church with his family and realized that he truly wanted to embrace the Catholic Faith completely. He joined RCIA to learn more about the Sacraments and to become “fit and worthy of God’s Grace.” Domingo truly embraces the faith. Now retired from the tool and dye industry he enjoys water-

color painting in the impressionist style.

5REHUW'DYLV6U was born in Germany, grew up on the east coast, attended college in Santa Monica, worked in real estate, mortgage and fi-nance, and now is the branch operations manager for Terminix in Santa Maria and commutes on weekends to Fullerton, where his family lives. He has been at-tending RCIA classes in San Luis Obispo weekly and joining his family at St. Juli-ana’s on Sundays. He and Sidney want to provide a solid foundation for their family, after many years of exploring different denominations. Robert shares that this “is

the right time, the right place, and the right community.” He and Sidney thank all the RCIA mentors and their class mem-bers for making them feel welcome and imparting the knowledge and help they needed.

, V D L D K ( Z L Q J, age 16, a sophomore at Servite HS, was the spark plug for his family to join St. Juli-ana’s Parish. He desired to join the Church and has been attending High School Youth Ministry/Confirmation meetings here for 2 years.

6LGQH\(ZLQJ'DYLV was raised in Fullerton as her father, Dr. Robert Ewing, was a professor at CSUF. After working in real estate and mortgage she is now a “domestic homemaker”, car-ing for her and Robert’s 4 children, Isaiah Ewing, (16), Robert Jr., (13), Jade, (11), and their newborn Jewel, (3 mo). Sidney wants to give back to the community by helping young women with pregnancy issues. Her sponsor, Barbara McGuigan, has been a huge contributor to Sidney’s participation in the Catholic Community.

6DPDQWKD*DOOR , a spiritually curious person, began her quest for an understanding of God when she first took yoga in 2001. She now guides and teaches yoga with an emphasis on spiritual integration. When her father, Joseph Gallo requested she enroll in the RCIA program, she felt it was in alignment with her values and path. The process of questioning your faith and beliefs and re-evaluating what you know to be true and inspiring is what she has received the most from RCIA and will continue to share with others in many avenues.

*DLO+HQNKDXV has been married to Lennard Henkhaus for four-teen years and they have three children, Tanner (13), Colter (10) and Makenna (8). She is blessed with the privilege of being a stay at home mom. She left her science career in the energy and environ-mental field after the birth of their second child. Their family moved to Fullerton a few years ago. Last year, they found St. Juliana Falconieri Parish while searching for a good children’s ministry. In the pro-cess, they discovered that they had a thirst for learning Scripture. The RCIA program

and Leaders provided the answers she was seeking. Her husband, who was raised a Catholic, joins her for the RCIA classes and is her sponsor. Gail and Lennard convalidated their marriage at St. Juliana. They are very grateful for being a part of St. Juliana Parish.

St. Juliana Catholic Community welcomes our RCIA Neo-phytes, who received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist & Confirmation) at the Easter Vigil. After months of Monday night classes with the RCIA team and weekly Sunday Mass dismissals led by devoted facilitators, our blessed seven are entering the Mystagogia phase as they continue learning and growing in their faith, attending classes through Pentecost Sunday. Parishioners, please introduce yourselves to these faith filled Catholics and continue to pray for them on their faith journey.

Doug and Jean Knudson were again privileged to take part in the project through Corazon. The following is a translation of a letter, written by the mother of the house, to the sponsors:

“My family and myself, Norma, want to thank you for having cho-sen to sponsor us with the drywall for our house because we really needed it a lot because here in Tijuana it gets too cold. Now I will tell you a little of my story: My family and I started Corazon 11 years ago, and we also received a room addition, and classes in construction, haircutting, sewing, gardening, carpentry, and handi-crafts, and assistance for our Christmas posadas (neighborhood Christmas party). I am very happy to be able to participate in this group which helps us so much. If I continue on, I will write more words that can fit on this sheet of paper. I am so excited. CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide – and here in the U.S. – to have food for today, while building for a better tomorrow. Our local efforts are making a huge differ-ence... and you are part of it!

The Fullerton Area CROP Hunger Walk is sponsored by Fullerton Interfaith Ministerial Association (FIMA).

Tradition tells us that the place where Jesus died and the place where he was buried are but a stone’s throw apart. However, the distance from Golgotha to the tomb and the Resurrection is much, much farther. It’s a giant leap of faith. Easter demands that same leap of faith. Otherwise, no amens, no alleluias, no Easter candle, no eggs to color.

Throughout the season of Easter, God’s Word comes to us to reveal the meaning of the Resurrection event. It nourishes our faith by ex-plaining the mysteries celebrated at the Vigil of Easter. By making this Word our own, we discover how the Easter mysteries, the sacra-ments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist, make a difference in our lives. We discover anew how Easter shines through and see what the momentous event has to do with us. We discover just how resurrection has “happened” in our lives. We learn that Easter does not simp-ly celebrate what happened to Jesus. It celebrates what happens to us. And we celebrate this wondrous “happening” for fifty days.

Unfortunately, such celebration won’t be easy. We’re just not used to it. We take our partying in minuscule doses. We start to fade before the Easter lilies do. It’ll take some doing to sustain Easter’s joy, but it can be done. We can find reconciliation to celebrate in our families. We can find conversion to celebrate in our Church. We can find new life to celebrate in ourselves. We need only take the time to open our

eyes and look. With newly opened eyes, we can discover just how much we belong here and how we have taken on Easter’s new life as our own. We can understand that we are one with the risen Lord in his death and resurrection, and that the Resurrection suffuses the whole human enterprise and sets it squarely in the heart of God.

So over the next seven weeks, decide to celebrate something new each week. Make a list of your blessings. You’ll see that you can find seven things to celebrate. Share your celebration with at least one other person. Now you have fourteen things to celebrate! Come Pentecost, you might be tired, but don’t fret. The Holy Spirit comes to ignite a new fire in you and to give you even more to celebrate.

In the meantime and throughout this Easter time, great joy to you and yours! This is the season of blessed celebration!

This is a season of glorious new life! Seize it!
