Introduction

In the UK there are many different kinds of art festivals – film festivals, music festivals, literary festivals, theater festivals, and storytelling festivals. Most festivals take place in the summer when the weather is good. Possibly the most famous music festival is Glastonbury in South West England. Started in 1970 by a farmer, Michael Eavis, and his wife, the five-day festival attracts around 135,000 people who pay more than $300 to see some of the most famous music artists in the world. Most of the profit from ticket sales goes to charities such as Greenpeace, Oxfam, and WaterAid.

Step 3 Choose the performers ■ What kind of music festival is it – rock, jazz,

classical?■ Make a list of the artists you’d like to invite.■ Create a schedule. Who performs first? Who’s

going to end the festival? (This is usually the main performance).

Step 4 Design promotional material and tickets

■ Think of a name for your festival. Choose two charities to give money to from ticket sales.■ Create material to promote the festival – a poster, a press release, a radio ad.■ Decide on jobs for everyone in the group. You need people to:
