Future Black Communications Professionals Meet and Greet Advisory September 21st 5pm CIB 3054 (School of Communication 3rd Floor Patio) FBCP will be hosting a faculty meet and greet in order to give new and old students an opportunity to mingle with School of Communication faculty outside of the classroom. Dean Grogg and many other School of Communication staff will be present to answer questions, give advice, and provide net-working expertise to students. This is a great way to find professors that specialize in your interests and make connections that could assist you even beyond your time at the University of Miami. Light refresh-ments will be served. For more information contact Allison Mathis at [email protected] Lifeguards October 24, 9am UM Coral Gables Campus Lifeguards (UM’s Suicide Prevention Outreach Pro-gram) will be participating in a 5k walk on Sunday October 24, 2010 to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention. Join us and bring a friend! The walk will take place on UM’s Gables Campus and registration for the walk starts at 9am; walk starts at 10am. You will also receive a team shirt for your participation. Horseshoes/Bocce Tournament (Deadline 9/22) Need to do a program for your floor or student organization? Then sign up for the Herbert Wellness Center’s horseshoe and bocce ball tournament taking place on September 25 at 10 a.m. The deadline to register for the tournament is September 22 in room 210. Team Racquetball Leagues (Deadline to Register: 9/29) Sign up for team racquetball intra-mural leagues—it’s a great way to bond with your roommate or kids on your floor! Just sign up as a free agent Golf Scramble Tournament (Deadline 10/1) Fore! The Herbert Wellness Center

is hosting a Golf Scramble tourna-ment on October 8 (play begins at 1 p.m.) at the Miami Springs Golf Club. The event is open to every-body. The cost to play is $25 for students, $30 for UM faculty and staff, and $40 for the community. The deadline to register is October 1 in room 210 of the Herbert Wellness Center. The first place winner in the student division will win a trip to Las Vegas to compete in a na-tional tournament on November 12 through November 14 (airfare not included). Family and Friends CPR September 29, 2pm

2nd Floor Herbert Wellness Center

The Family and Friends CPR pro-

gram teaches how to perform CPR in

adults, children, and infants and how

to help an adult, child or infant who is

choking. This course is for those who

want to learn CPR but do not need a

course completion card. This program

can also be a non-credentialed option

for middle and high school students.

The cost is $10 for student members,

$20 for non-student members and $30

for non-members. University faculty

and staff are eligible to take the class

Heart Saver CPR October 4th, 2pm

2nd Floor Herbert Wellness Center

Heart Saver CPR course teaches CPR

and relief of choking in adults, chil-

dren, and infants, as well as use of

barrier devices for all ages. Optional:

infant CPR and choking; adult, child,

and infant CPR with mask. The cost is $15 for student members, $25 for non-

student members and $35 for non-members.

California Park and Recreation Scholarship Undergraduate students enrolled full-time in a college or university with a major in recreation/leisure services or related human services field with a major emphasis in gerontology and/or cur-rent student research in gerontology. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Must have work, volunteer, and/or pro-fessional involvement in the recreation/leisure services, gerontology or related field and financial need. Jewish Culture International Community Service Scholarships Criteria: Scholarships are awarded annually for professional training for careers in Jewish educa-tion, Jewish social service, the rabbinate, shehita, and milah. The recipients must commit them-selves after their training to serve two to three years in a Jewishly deprived Diaspora community outside the United States, Canada, and Israel where such professional personnel are urgently needed. Recipient should also be knowledgeable in the language and culture of that country or be prepared to learn it. Scholarships are open to any individual, regardless of country of origin, who is presently receiving or plans to undertake training in his/her chosen field in a recognized yeshiva, teacher training seminary, school of social work, university, or other educational institution. The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs is pleased to announce that the 2011 PPIA Junior Summer Institute will be held at Princeton University from June 9 through July 29, 2011. The goal of the PPIA Junior Summer Institute is to prepare students for graduate study and careers in public policy and international affairs. The summer institute provides a rigorous training in policy analysis and serves as a springboard to exciting careers in public service. The brochure is available through our website at http://wws.princeton.edu/jsi/ . The online application form is available through the Public Policy & International Affairs Fellowship Program (PPIA) at www.ppiaprogram.org/app/. We hope that you will recommend our program to eligible college jun-iors. Please pass along this information to faculty or administrators who advise undergraduates at your insti-tution. Similar summer programs are offered at Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Maryland and Michigan with some differences in eligibility. The application deadline is November 1, 2010 and the admission process will be completed by February 1, 2011. We use an early application deadline to avoid the conflict with our graduate school admission process and enable participants to have better lead-time to plan for the PPIA Jun-ior Summer Institute.
