Background and experience

CETMAR is a public foundation founded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and by the Galician Government. The area of activity is regional, but also national, European and International. It aims to achieve interinstitutional coordination and interdisciplinary integration of all marine research and technology resources and to boost the competitiveness of the marine and fishing related sectors by promoting research and innovation activities. This role covers education and training, scientific research and technological development and innovation, with a strong capacity to establish links and act as an interim organisation; involved in more than 83 projects of varying scope and nature.

2. What are the activities and experience of your organisation, which are

relevant to EU funded projects? (max 1000 characters with spaces) Since 2001CETMAR has participated in several hundred of European, national and regional initiatives, controlling and coordinating R+D+I and International Cooperation projects; carrying out technical, economic and social services and studies; designing and implementing training and dissemination activities, as well as setting up and participating in research networks and platforms.

CETMAR’s personnel have participated in a large number of EU programs such as INTERREG (A, B and C), FIFG, ESF, Leonardo da Vinci, Life Projects and the RFP. Working in an inter-institutional meeting point and coordination entity, they are known to be neutral boosters of the innovation on the maritime sector and good organizers for all stakeholders. This is reflected in CETMAR’s capacity to link a wide range of different organisations in its activities.

CETMAR applies for an average of 30 EU funded projects each year. 5. What is the trainees’ ideal personality, qualifications and skills? Proactive personality with a desire to learn. Self management character, with adaptatability to integrate different working teams. A university degree is required, either "bio" (biology, marine sciences, environmental sciences ...) or the engineering branch. Main desired skills: ability to handle large volumes of information for analysis and synthesis; management of databases and document management tools.

6. Which working language is required? An independent user level (B1 or B2) of Spanish will be desirable, and a similar level of English or French will be an asset. 7. Please give a rough description of the main daily tasks We propose to incorporate the candidate in the Technology Promotion & Transfer Area. The trainee will participate in the R & D & I management service developed by CETMAR, intensifying the tasks of strategic surveillance and knowledge management carried out in all areas of the Center. During the first weeks, the trainee will receive a special orientation to adapt to the Centre, based on learning by doing methods: a presentation of each working area

will be organized, and he or she will be orientated to use all internal communication tools (intranet and internal databases). During this first training phase, the candidate will participate on the review and update of sources of information: Institutional web pages, official journals, databases, specialized web portals (both those managed by different levels of administration, and others of Technical/scientific content), bulletins and alert systems with different periodicities, sectorial publications, social networks, etc. This resources catalog will be the main tool for the work to be developed. The candidate will be trained to select the most relevant documents or information units for the Center (calls, reports, training or information activities ...), and make a first review; determine the scope in which they fit in relation to the strategic lines of the Centre and identify the most relevant aspects as well as the direct addressee within the organization. The information will be filtered by thematic area, as it relates to one or more of the following lines: • Protection of the coast and the marine environment; pollution control • Monitoring and monitoring technologies • Fishing • Aquaculture • Marine energies • Marine biotechnology • Governance of the oceans • Industrial processes and fisheries resources. The information and analysis documents will be disseminated internally, and especially directed to main interested areas and persons. It will also be catalogued and archived. The trainee will support the maintenance of the necessary documentary records, in accordance with the requirements and rules of procedure of the internal quality management system. In this way, it will also acquire training related to the operation of an organization with a quality management system in place (ISO 9001) and will complete its capacities in relation to the management of internal information. In addition, and since the surveillance system has been designed in accordance with the provisions of the UNE: 166006: 2011 standard on technological surveillance, it should be considered that contractors will also become familiar with this standard of reference. “Universities for EU projects” – Mobility project

computer, internet connection, printer, telephone, etc.)

The trainee, as all workers at CETMAR, would have his/her office desk, computer, fast internet connection, colour and black and white printers, telephone, scanners, access to multimedia rooms, conference rooms… 11. Do you provide any economic support? CETMAR doesn’t provide a salary for trainees, but in case there is a need for travel for the development of their tasks, there are established per diems and all transportation expenses will be covered. 12. Do you provide any linguistic support? In the framework of another European Project, EMBARCATE (that finished in 2008), CETMAR published a manual to teach Spanish to foreigners, that will be available to the trainee. In addition, within that same project, a CD was designed with technical maritime language in Spanish for foreigners, that the trainee can use.

CETMAR usually organizes English training courses for its staff, and the trainee will be welcome to participate. Those courses are focused to practice conversation as well as technical language related with projects in course. In any case, most our staff speak fluent English, and the Latin roots of our mother tongue, (Galician or Spanish), make it very easy to communicate with Italian and Portuguese speakers. 13. Where would the trainee(s) work from? The trainee would work from an office in our headquarters, in Vigo, Spain (the address is Eduardo Cabello, s/n, Vigo) 14. Is there any possibility for the trainees to be hired after a successful traineeship

experience? As a public Foundation, all our job offers are public, and announced as such. In any case, the experience of the trainee in our Centre will be a valuable asset in the case of an opening. 15. Would you be interested in being contacted for future traineeship projects? Yes.
