Logistics, Transportation & Parking (LTP) provides free transit service for travel around and between campuses. The system was redesigned for the start of the Fall 2020 term and should be used for essential travel needs. Riders are expected to follow safety measures in place.
This guide provides detailed transit informa-tion, including route maps, days of opera-tions, hours of service and frequency.
U-M campus routes provide frequent service connecting classroom buildings, residence halls and commuter parking lots. Michigan Medicine routes are specifically designed for staff, patients and visitors of the Medical Center.

When Buses Run
For the most up-to-date schedule information, look online at ltp.umich.edu.
HolidaysUniversity transit routes do not operate on the following University-recognized holidays:• Thanksgiving Day• Friday after Thanksgiving• Christmas Day• New Year’s Day• Memorial Day• Independence Day
Taking the Bus
What safety measures are currently in place? A number of measures are currently in place, including:• Riders are required to wear a face
covering• No standing• Loading and unloading from rear doors
only (unless ADA need)• An optimized transit network to reduce
duration of trips• Enhanced cleaning and disinfection• Additional buses supplementing service
at peak times
Where can I find bus schedule information?Bus schedules and live tracking information can be found online at ltp. umich.edu. You can plan your ride using the Google transit widget found there, or go to transit.google.com. or go to transit.google.com.
How do I catch the bus? It’s easy! Just wait at a posted bus stop sign for the bus to arrive. If you are inside a shelter, please exit as the bus approaches to make yourself more visible to the driver. University buses are free—no fees or ID cards are required to ride.
How do I get off the bus? When you’re ready to deboard, just pull the cord above the window to signal the driver. Signal about a block before your stop and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before exiting.
What can I carry on board? Please secure all items in your lap or between the seats. You can place items in the seat next to you, but please give up that extra seat if someone needs to sit down.
What is not allowed?Certain items and behaviors are not allowed on any transit vehicle: • Open alcoholic beverages of any kind • Drugs or any other controlled
substances (transporting or consuming)• Hazardous materials or potentially
hazardous materials (see Bio Research Shuttle on pg. 2 for information regarding transporting bio-research materials)
• Unfolded strollers• Bicycles • Any item that cannot be stowed outside
the aisle or that takes up seat space• Any item that compromises safety or
access for other riders• Skateboards, inline skates and foldable
bikes/scooters may be carried aboard but must be stored outside the aisle These items may not take up seats
• Pets are not allowed on U-M buses, except for Service Animals that meet the ADA definition, which are always welcome
• No eating on the bus
How safe are the buses? The bus system is an integral part of the campus safety network and emergency response plan. After dark, it’s always safer to ride the bus than to walk alone. Bus drivers have direct contact with the Division of Public Safety and Security. Buses are equipped with first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
What if I lose something on the bus?Call 734-764-7475 or email [email protected] to see if it’s been turned in. Please turn in found articles to your bus driver.

On-Demand Services
Bio Research Shuttle
The shuttle is a shared service intended only for the transport of passengers with bio-research material. Riders should request pickups via the TapRide mobile app or website:
• Look for the TapRide app in the Google Play store and in iTunes. Once downloaded, choose “Research Shuttle: University of Michigan” and proceed to login with your UMICH user name and password.
• OR you may request a ride on the TapRide website. Proceed to login with your UMICH user name and password.
• If you do not have access to the mobile app or a computer, you may call (734) 936-0472. Riders can watch their vehicle live on the map, receive notifications when it is approaching, and change or cancel their request directly from the app or website. Service is provided by a University of Michigan van and operates MondayFriday, year-round, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., with service breaks from 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Paratransit
Transit Services offers curb-to-curb Paratransit services for students, faculty and staff that are pre-qualified through the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). Paratransit is a free shared-ride service. This is a year-round service that operates on weekdays only; service is not offered on Saturdays or Sundays. Rides are provided within a .75 mile radius of University bus routes, as well as the East Ann Arbor Health Centers and Domino’s Farms satellite facilities. Pick-up times can be scheduled as early as 6:00 A.M. and as late as 10:30 P.M. Overflow rides and all rides before 7:40 A.M and after 6:30 P.M. are provided through a contracted vendor (currently Golden Limousine). During Fall break, Winter break, Spring break, Spring and Summer terms, all trips are booked directly with Golden Limousine (734-999-0468, Option 1).
To register for the rides, contact Services for Students with Disabilities at (734)763-3000. After registering, you can request a ride by calling (734) 936-0472 or by e-mailing [email protected].
SafeRide
SafeRide is a free service that transports students, faculty, and staff to their residence or vehicle within a one-mile radius of campus. Riders may use this service once per evening and must present a valid U-M ID (Mcard). During Fall and Winter terms, this service is available daily from 8:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
An employee from U-M Transit Services will come to your campus location and drive you to your requested location (within a one-mile driving radius of Central and North campuses). During non-service hours, alternative service providers may be identified by UMPD. To request a ride:• During Fall and Winter terms, you may
request a ride through the TapRide mobile application. Download for Android or for iTunes. Select “University of Michigan SafeRide” from with the app. Login with your UMICH username and password to request a ride and view estimated wait times.
• If you do not have mobile app/computer access, you may call (734) 647-8000, and select Option 1.
