EDCI 7119 Specialist Project Proposal EdS Secondary Education with fields in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Science

EdS Middle Grades Education

EdS Special Education

APPROVED

Rationale for request: When the EdS programs were last revised, our intention was that students would develop their specialist project proposal in EDUF 7118 Qualitative Research. However, this has not worked out as we intended due to various scheduling issues, so we are proposing a new 1 hour course in which our EdS students develop their project proposal. Program faculty who supervise students’ specialist projects will also supervise development of the proposal, as they are already doing. Currently, students are trying to complete a proposal and the project in EDCI 7359 Specialist Project during their final semester, but many of them need more time. Adding the one hour specialist project proposal course will allow students to complete the proposal prior to their final semester and then the project itself in their last semester of the program. We are reducing the number of required hours in the concentration area from 19 to 18 (secondary program), electives from 4 to 3 (middle grades program), or specialized strand from 10 to 9 (special education program) to accommodate for this extra hour that will be added to the Professional Core, so this change will not add more time to the programs. EDCI 7359 Specialist Project Remove current prerequisites (EDUF 7117 & EDUF 7118) and add EDCI 7119 (a new course being proposed) as prerequisite

EdS Secondary Education with fields in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Science

EdS Middle Grades Education

EdS Special Education

APPROVED

Rationale for EDCI 7359: We are proposing a new one hour specialist project proposal course in which students will develop a proposal for their project prior to enrolling in EDCI 7359. We would like this new course to be the prerequisite for EDCI 7359 instead of the current prerequisites (EDUF 7117 & 7118). The research courses (EDUF 7117 & 7118) will be prerequisites for the new specialist project proposal course.

From: School of Nursing (Pre-licensure/RN-BSN)

Re: Curriculum Proposals for August 2017

Date: 10/5/2016

COURSE MODIFICATION Rationale:

1) For NURS 3275, there is duplication of content or inappropriately placed content in NURS 3275 that should be in NURS 3276 (Health Assessment). The more appropriate placement of this content is in NURS 3276, as it relates to assessment of individuals throughout the lifespan. This change would involve reassignment of content hours from NURS 3275 to NURS 3276, and includes topics such as Cultural Assessment and Growth and Development. Other content would be deleted as it is already being taught in adequate depth in NURS 3276 or other courses.

2) For NURS 3276, content hours will be aligned to alleviate duplication of content and provide students with more lab time to practice health assessment skills in a supervised environment. This realignment of hours is to differentiate course versus clinical content and include all required content.

3) For NURS 3293, RN to BSN students need to possess more in depth physical assessment skills and understanding of normal and abnormal findings. In order to accomplish this outcome in an online environment, virtual simulation was added to the course. Virtual simulation includes both didactic and clinical components. Course and credit hours were modified to reflect this addition to the curriculum.
