    always seem co c a k e t h e c o n c i n e n t u n a w a r e s . T h i s i s

    b e c a u s e t h e r e i s no s t a n d i n g r e g i o n a l mechanism to

    address s u c h c o n f l i c t s , to n i b them a t t h e b u d before

    t h e y d e g e n e r a t e i n t o a f u l l b l o w n c i v i l war. And

    Yec , a g a i n , t h e r e is t h e p o s s i b i l i t y c h a t m o s c

    A f r i c a n c o u n t r i e s may s t a r t v i e w i n g N i g e r i a t s role w i c h

    s u s p i c i o n , T h e y may s t a r t l o o k i n g a t t h e w h o l e a d v e n t u r e

    as N i g e r i a ' s way of i m p o s i n g h e r hegemoni sm o n c h e w h o l e

    c o n t i n e n t .

    F u r t h e r m o r e , N i g e r i a w i l l h a v e a l o t of f o r c e s to

    c o n t e n d w i t h i n t h e b id to e n s u r e c o n f l i c t - free ~ f r i c a n c o n t i n e n t . T h e s e obstacles may come from t h e

    i m p e r a l i s t c o u n t r i e s o f t h e West. T h i s c o n c l u s i o n i s

    p r e d i c a t e d o n t h e k n o w l e d g e t h a t most c o n f l i c t s i n

    Af r 4 c a a r e Wes t e r n - o r i e n t e d . T h i s i s b e c a u s e t h e

    h e g e m o n i c p o w e r h a s and s t i l l t r y to i m p o s e p o l i t i c a l

    s c o o g e s o n many A f r i c a n c o u n t r i e s . T h e s e

    w i l l be met w i t h s t i f f r e s i s t a n c e from t h e w o r l d

    b e e n f e l t i n L i b e r i a , S ierra Leone . However , n o t much
