INTRODUCTION

Karnataka occupies a prominent place in Horticulture map of our country. Horticultural crops occupyan area of 17.25 lakh ha with production of 130.26 lakh tonnes. Although, the area comprises only14.44 per cent of the net cultivated area in the state, the total income generated from the horticulturesector accounts to over 40 per cent of total income derived from the combined agriculture sectorwhich accounts for 17 per cent of the GDP of the state.

About 58,000 ha. area has been brought under horticulture crops through the watershed programmesalone in the state. Karnataka having the highest acreage under dry farming in the country next only toRajastan, has a great potential to grow high value dry land horticulture crops.

Karnataka is a progressive state in the field of modern horticulture in the country. The diverse agro-ecological conditions prevailing in Karnataka made it possible to grow different types of horticulturalcrops such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices and plantation crops, root and tuber crops, medicinaland aromatic crops.

Karnataka is the 3rd largest producer of fruits and stands at 5th position in area and production ofvegetable crops and 1st in area and 3rd in plantation crops. Karnataka also is the largest producer ofspices, medicinal and aromatic crops.

In pursuit of modernizing horticulture and providing professional services to the farming community,the University of Horticultural Sciences was established in 2008 at Bagalkot with entire state jurisdictionbesides the well established network of offices of DOH of Karnataka. The University, with its 9constituent colleges, 12 Research Stations, and 10 AICRP’s is catering to the needs of farmingcommunity and thereby playing an active role in enhancing the horticultural production.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Bagalkot, the head quarters of the University has rich horticultural production base for Grapes,Pomegranate, Sapota, Fig, Lime, Sweet lime, Ber, varieties of vegetables, spices and medicinal plants.Besides the bordering districts of Belgaum on West, Dharwad and Koppal on South, Bijapur on Northand Raichur on East are the hub of Grape, Mango, Pomegranate, variety of flowers and vegetableproductions. Further having the historical importance of places like Badami (cave temple and capitalof Chalukya kingdom) Pattadakallu and Aihole (the places known for temples of stone sculpture) andKudalasangama a centre of religious preaching and teaching established confluence point of theKrishna-Malaprabha a life line rivers of Karnataka situated within the radius of 50 Kms from Bagalkot.

LOCATION

Bagalkot town is the midpoint of Northern Karnataka and can be reached within 12 hours (maximum)from any part of Karnataka by road NH-218, NH-13, Raichur-Belgaum road pars through Bagalkotdistrict and is also well connected by railway (Bangalore-Hubli-Gadag-Bagalkot-Bijapur-Solapur

enroute). Bagalkot is 110 kms from Hubli airport and 120 kms from Belgaum airport. The new townshipof Bagalkot, where the University is located, has been planned according to architect Charles Korieand in line with Chandigarh model. It has typical sub-tropical dry climate with temperature rangingfrom 10-200C during winter and 18-380C during summer.

THE MANDATE

The University has a three main mandate of Education, Research and Extension.

� Impart education in all branches of Horticulture and allied sciences.

� Conduct applied, strategic and basic research, in all branches of horticulture and related disciplines.

� Facilitate in transfer of technology to the farming community through extension system andoutreach.

THE MISSION

The mission of University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot (UHS,B) is to enhance the growth offarming sector by providing leadership in teaching, research and extension services in horticultureand allied sciences through continuous innovation and assimilation of emerging areas, concepts andtechnology.

MISSION STATEMENT

To double horticultural production to 300 million tonnes by the end of 2011-12 from the levels of 152million tonnes in 2007- 08 through co-ordinated programmes involving all the agencies of horticulture.

Our mission is end to end approach, resolving inter sectoral issues for addressing problem areas andpromoting multi-dimensional reform, research, teaching, extension, production, processing andmarketing, time bound accomplishment with a sense of urgency.

EDUCATION

One of the missions of the University is to impart quality higher education in Horticulture and alliedsciences for creating and developing human resources in these fields necessary for over alldevelopment of horticulture in the country, in general, and state, in particular. Teaching activity iscarried out through nine UG colleges and four PG colleges which offer different disciplines undersemester system. Undergraduate degree programme is offered in the following colleges.

This prospectus is a brief booklet intended to provide some essential information for candidate who seekadmission to Undergraduate Degree Programmes in the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot.

CALENDAR/ACADEMIC INFORMATIONDURATION AND SEMESTER :This contains information about Rules and Regulations governing B.Sc. (Hort.) degree programme in respectof course curriculum, examination and evaluation system and discipline governing every admitted studentand will be provided to all the student at the time of registration.

B.Sc. (Hort.) degree programme offered under UHS, Bagalkot is of four years degree programme containingeight semester.As the pattern of education is in semester system, the time taken to obtain the degree will ultimatelydepend upon the time taken by the student to complete the prescribed course credits.

ADMISSIONELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONCandidates to be eligible for admission to degree programme of the University should satisfy the followingrequirements.

Should have passed two year PUC Science examination of the Karnataka Pre-University Board or anequivalent examination with the combination of PCB with Mathematics or any science subjects or Inter-Agriculture/Horticulture subject, scoring minimum of 45% in PCB for GM & others and 40% for SC/ST/CAT I.

OR

A pass in two years PUC Science examination of the Karnataka Pre-University Board with Inter-Horticulturesubject.

Note:1) The student must have compulsorily taken CET Examination conducted by the Karnataka Examination

Authority, Bangalore during the year 2011.

2. In respect of Kashmiri Migrants seeking admission, the directions of Government of Karnataka issuedfrom time to will be followed

DOMICILE REQUIREMENTCandidate should be a citizen of India and must satisfy one of the following eligibility criteria/conditionslaid down under Clause A to M for admission to Under-graduate Degree programme. The candidates whodo not satisfy any of the Clauses/eligibility criteria/condition detailed below will not be eligible foradmission. Each condition is specified as a Clause and is individually referred by a code. Candidates arerequired to furnish copies of the documents in support of their claim.

The candidate should have studied and passed in one or more Government or Government recognisededucational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academicyears commencing from the 1st standard to the 2nd year PUC/12th standard as on 1st July of the yearand must have appeared and passed either SSLC/10th standard or 2nd PUC/12th standard examinationfrom Karnataka State.

In the case of a candidate who has taken more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years ofacademic study is counted as one year only.

The Candidate should have studied and passed both the 1st and the 2nd Year Pre-University Examinationor 11th and 12th standard examination within the State of Karnataka from an Educational Institutionrun or recognized by the State Government and that either of the parents should have studied inKarnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years.

Documents to be produced : SSLC / 10th standard Marks Card, 2nd year PUC /12th standard MarksCard, of the Candidate; If claiming reservation benefits:- Caste / Caste-Income Certificate issued byTahsildar- For SC / ST in Form-D, Category-I in Form E and 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B in Form F along with

1) a certificate for either of the parents having studied for at least 7 years in Karnataka from the Headof the educational institution where he/she had studied.

2) the candidate’s study certificate for having studied both the 1st and the 2nd PUC or the 11th & the12th standard in Karnataka issued by the head of the educational institution.

The candidate and either of his/her parent’s mother tongue should be Kannada, Tulu or Kodava andeither of the parents was domiciled in the State of Karnataka. Such candidates should have passed thequalifying examination from the University or Board or any other Institution located outside Karnatakaand should be residing outside the state of Karnataka as on the 1st May of 2011. Provided that thecandidate shall undergo a Kannada Language test conducted by UHS.

1) The domicile certificate issued by the concerned Revenue or Municipal Authorities certifying thatthe candidate and his/her father have resided outside the state of Karnataka as on 01-05-2011. 2) The domicile certificate issued by concerned Revenue Authorities of the state of Karnataka regardingthe previous domicile of the father / mother of the candidate as a place in the state of Karnataka.The place of the Issuing authority should correspond to the place of domicile of the father/mother.

3) Candidate’s Study certificate, Transfer Certificate.4) Father / Mother’s 10th standard marks card / original cumulative record in support of mother

tongue as Kannada / Tulu / Kodava. 5) The duly sworn declaration regarding mother tongue of thecandidate. Candidate should produce the photocopies of all the above documents compulsorilywhen he / she appear for Kannada Language Test / Counselling-cum-Admission.

The candidate, whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava should have resided and studied fora period of 7 years between the 1st & the 12th standards in disputed Kannada speaking area of SouthSholapur or Akkalkot or Jath or Gadhinglaj Taluks of Maharashtra State or Kasargod or HosadurgaTaluksof Kerala State. Provided that the candidate shall undergo a Kannada Language test conducted by UHS.

In the case of the candidate who is son or daughter of the defence personnel who has worked continuouslyin Karnataka, the candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examination i.e. II PUC orequivalent examination from any Government or Government recognised educational institution locatedin the State of Karnataka.Documents to be produced : SSLC / the 10th standard Marks Card & the 2nd year PUC / the 12thstandard Marks Card of the candidate along with1) the candidate’s study certificate for having studied the 2nd PUC or equivalent examination in

Karnataka issued by the head of the educational institution.2) employment certificate of the parent issued by the Controlling Office where the parent is working

In the case of a candidate who is the son or the daughter of the defence personnel who had served inKarnataka for at least one year and is posted on duty in Field / Active Service and whose family ispermitted by Defence Authorities to continue to stay in Karnataka, such candidate should have studiedand passed the qualifing examination from any Government or Government recognised educationalinstitution located in Karnataka.Documents to be produced : SSLC / the 10th standard Marks Card & the 2nd year PUC / the 12thstandard Marks card of the candidate along with1) the candidate’s study certificate for having studied the 2nd PUC or equivalent examination in

Karnataka issued by the head of the educational institution.2) service certificate of the parent issued by the Controlling Office indicating the period during which

the parent has worked in Karnataka and a certificate showing the present place of posting, indicatingthat his/her family is permitted to stay in Karnataka. The present working place of the parentshould be indicated by NAME.

Son or daughter of an ex-serviceman who at the time of joining the Defence service had declared the place inKarnataka as his home town, proof of such domicile should be obtained and produced from the “Deputy Director,Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement”. Further, the candidate should have passed the QualifyingExamination from the University or Board or any other institution located in India.Documents to be produced : SSLC / the 10th standard Marks Card & the 2nd year PUC / the 12th standard Marks Card of thecandidate; If claiming reservation benefits :- Caste / Caste-Income Certificate issued by concerned Tahsildar - For SC / ST inForm-D, Category-I in Form E and 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B in Form F, along with the parent’s home town declaration certificate whilejoining the service issued by the Joint Director / Deputy Director of the concerned district and countersigned by the Director,Department of Sainik Welfare and resettlement, Bangalore.

Son or daughter of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants, proof of such migration (IDENTITY CARD) should beobtained and produced from the jurisdictional "District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner" of anystate in India.Documents to be produced : SSLC / 10th standard Marks Card and 2nd PUC / 12th standard Marks Card of thecandidate along with the original certificate (IDENTITY CARD) issued by the jurisdictional DistrictMagistrate and Deputy Commissioner of any state in India, as the proof of migration. The candidates whoare claiming eligibility under clause 'M' are eligible only for the seats earmarked by the Government.

The candidates who have studied TEN full academic years in Kannada Medium from 1st standard to 10thStandard in places outside the state of Karnataka. Such candidates need not appear for Kannada language testconducted by UHS. Provided the candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examinationfrom any Government or Government recognised educational institution.Documents to be produced : SSLC / 10th standard Marks Card and 2nd PUC / 12th standard Marks Card of the candidate alongwith - (1) A domicile certificate issued by the concernd Revenue or Muncipal Authorities certifying that the candidate and hisfather / mother have resided outside the state of Karnataka as on 01-05-2011. The place of issuing authority should correspondto the place of domicile of the candidate / father / mother. (2) Candidate’s study certificate, for having studied in KannadaMedium from 1st standard to 10th Standard issued by the head of the institution.

Note : 1. Wherever the eligibility of the candidate is, based on the study, employment, etc., of the parent, documents to establish therelationship of the candidate with the parent has to be produced

2. The contents of the documents submitted by the candidates should be either in Kannada or English language, if the documentsare in any other official languages the same should be got translated to Kannada or English language. Otherwise the UHSBreserves the right to reject the same.

3. In case, if any of the documents produced in respect of the Clause/s claimed by the candidate is found to be false/ incorrect,the seat selected by the candidate will be cancelled at any stage and the entire fee amount paid by such candidate will beforfeited. Necessary criminal proceedings will be initiated.

RESERVATION OF SEATSAdmission to the University is made subject to reservation of seats for1) Horticulturists/Agriculturists or children of Horticulturists/Agriculturists as defined in the Act of UHS,

2009 Bagalkot (23.8%) : “Horticulturists/Agriculturist”, for this purpose means a person who, as owneror tenant, holds land and whose main source of income is from personal cultivation of the land, includingany person whose principal means of livelihood is from manual labour in Horticultural/Agriculturalland. The seats under this category will be filled through Practical Test conducted by the Universityfollowed by Counselling-cum-Admission.

2) General seats (76.2%) : For both Horticulturists/Agriculturist and general quota, vertical reservation isgiven as per the existing reservation policy of Government of Karnataka i.e., reservation shall be madein favour of candidates belonging to Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and other Backward Classes (OBC)as notified by the Government of Karnataka under categories : Category - 1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B in accordancewith the Government order No. SWL 251 BCA 94 Bangalore dated 31-1-1995 and as amended from timeto time, the seats of which will be filled through General Counselling in the University.For each of the vertical category under item (1) and (2) mentioned above, the following reservationsare made horizontally as under:a) RURAL : Fifteen per cent of the seats will be reserved horizontally in favour of rural candidates who

have studied for 10 full academic years from the 1st Standard to the 10th Standard in educationalinstitutions situated in the state of Karnataka other than larger urban area, smaller urban area ortransitional area as mentioned in Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 or Karnataka MunicipalCorporations Act, 1976, in accordance with the Government order No. ED 01 TEC 2002, Bangalore,dated 01-02-2002 and the eligibility criteria shall be as defined in the Karnataka Reservations ofAppointments of Posts in the Civil Services of the State for Rural Candidates Act, 2000 (Karnataka Act1 of 2001).The candidates whose parents do not come under the creamy layer and the candidates who havestudied TEN full academic years from the 1st Standard to the 10th Standard in places other than theplaces mentioned in Schedule II will be eligible for claiming the benefit of Rural reservations.However, if the candidates have studied in these places from the 1st to the 10th standard before theNotification as Urban area, such candidates are eligible to claim rural reservations benefits as perSchedule II given in the Prospectus.

b) KANNADA MEDIUM STUDY : Five per cent of the seats will be reserved horizontally in favour of theKannada Medium Candidates who have studied TEN full academic years in Kannada Medium fromthe 1st Standard to 10th Standard, in accordance with the Government Order No. ED 118 UEC 2000,Bangalore dated 04-06-2000 and as amended vide Government Order No. Ed 02 UEC 2002, Bangaloredated 14-10-2005.

3) SPECIAL CATEGORIES : Provision is made under horizontal reservation of seats (12 %) to the followingspecial categories.

a) NCC : Candidatesi) Who have participated in the Republic Day Camp conducted by the Director General of NCC, New

Delhi from Karnataka and who possess ‘B’ Certificate obtained during the five year period of study inKarnataka between 8th and 12th Standards ;

ii) Who have participated in the following camps conducted by the Director General of NCC, New Delhifrom Karnataka and who possesses ‘B’ Certificate obtained during the five year period of study inKarnataka between 8th and 12th standards namely:All India Thal Sainik Camp (Boys) : TSC (B) All India Thal Sainik Camp (Girls) : TSC (G)All India Nau Sainik Camp : NSC All India Vayu Sainik Camp : VSCCadet who has been finally selected as a part of DG NCC team to Participate in ALL INDIA MOVALANKAR

SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP at National Level and Youth Exchange programmes and Foreign NavalCruise organised by DG, NCC. or

iii) Who have participated in the following camps conducted by the Director General of NCC, NewDelhi from Karnataka and who possess “B” Certificate obtained during the five-year period of studyin Karnataka between the 8th and the 12th standards namely : (a) All India Thal Sainik Camp (Boys)- TSC (B); (b) All India Thal Sainik Camp (Girls)- TSC (G); (c) All India Nau Sainik Camp - NSC ; (d) AllIndia Vayu Sainik Camp - VSC (e) Cadets participate in All India Movalankar Shooting Championshipas a part of KARNATAKA and GOA Director Team and in complete - Mountaineering Expeditions (over5900 mtrs.), Sailing Expeditions using wind power only (401 Kms.) Motor Cycle Expeditions (morethan 3500 kms.) and Cycling Expeditions (more than 1500 Kms.), organised by DG, NCC / NCC Directorof Karnataka and Goa. or

iv) Who have participated in the following camps / courses conducted by the Director General of NCC,New Delhi from Karnataka and who possesses “B” Certificate obtained during the five-year periodof study in Karnataka between 8th and 12th standards namely : (a) NIC ; (b) Trekking ; (c)Mountaineering ; (d) BLC ; (e) ALC; (f) RCTC and (g) Army, Navy, Air Force and Hospital Attachments.

v) Who possesses ‘B’ certificate obtained during the five-year period of study in Karnataka between8th and 12th standards.

Provided that for selection of a reserved seat under NCC category, the preferential criteria are as follows:

Preference 1 : Candidate possessing ‘B’ Certificate and adjudged overall All India Best cadet withGold/Silver/Bronze medal in the Republic Day Camp.

Preference 2 : Candidate Possessing ‘B’ Certificate and adjudged overall All India Best cadet withGold/Silver/Bronze medal in the camps mentioned at (a) to (e) of sub-clause (ii) above.

Preference 3 : ‘B’ Certificate holders who have participated in the Youth Exchange Programmes andForeign Naval Cruise organised by DG, NCC.

Preference 4 : ‘B’ Certificate holder who has participated from Karnataka in the Republic Day Camp.

Preference 5 : ‘B’ Certificate holder who has participated from Karnataka in the camps mentioned at(a) to (d) of sub-clause (iii) above.

Preference 6 : ‘B’ Certificate holder who has participated in the Mountaineering / Sailing / MotorCycle / Cycling Expedition organised by DG, NCC / NCC Directorate of Karnataka andGoa.

Preference 7 : ‘B’ Certificate holder who has participated in the camps mentioned in sub-clause (iv)above.

Preference 8 : Candidate possessing ONLY ‘B’ Certificate.

Provided that for selection of a reserved seat under NCC category, candidates possessing ‘B’ Certificateand adjudged BEST CADET in Republic Day camp shall be considered first; ‘B’ certificate holder and whohave won individual medal in the competitions counting towards Republic Day Banner in the RepublicDay camp shall be considered second; ‘B’ certificate holders who have participated in the Republic Daycamp shall be considered third; ‘B’ certificate holders who have won individual medal in the competitionscounting towards R. D. Banner in the camps mentioned in sub-clauses (ii) shall be considered fourth andthe ‘B’ certificate holders who have participated in the camp mentioned in sub-clause (iii);

Provided further that the candidates belonging to sub-clause (ii) i.e. only ’B’ certificate holders shall beeligible to select the NCC special category seats, if any, in the general round of seat selection along withthe other General Merit and Reserved category candidates as per their merit order.

b) Sports

i) Candidate who has represented the country and won medals / cups in the SUPER A- Gamesspecified in SCHEDULE-1 during the five years period of study in Karnataka between 8th and 12th

standards;

ii) Candidate who has represented the country and won medals / cups in A-Games specified inSCHEDULE-1 during the five years period of study in Karnataka between 8th and 12th standards;

iii) Candidate who has won medals / cups in B-Games specified in SCHEDULE-1 by representingKarnataka State and participated in the SUPER A-Games or A-Games specified in SCHEDULE-1during the five years period of study in Karnatka between 8th and 12th standards;

iv) Candidate who has represented Karnataka State in B-Games specified in SCHEDULE-I and wonmedals/cups during the five years period of the study in Karnataka between 8th and 12th standards;

v) Candidate who has represented Karnataka State in any sports or games in the B-Games specifiedin SCHEDULE-1 during the five years period of study in Karnataka between 8th and 12th standards;

Provided that for selection of a reserved seat in Sports category, the candidate who belongs to sub-clause(i) shall be considered first; candidate who belongs to sub-clause (ii) shall be considered second:candidates who belongs to sub-clause (iii) shall be considered third and candidates belongings to sub-clause (iv) shall be considered fourth before considering the candidate belonging to sub-clause (v).

Provided further that while considering the candidate mentioned in sub-clauses and (v) gold medalwinners will be preferred to Silver medalist who in turn will be preferred to Bronze medalist under therespective sub-clauses, irrespective of the number of medals.

Provided also that the candidate belonging to sub-clause (v) i.e., only who has represented the KarnatakaState, shall be eligible to select the sports special category seats during counseling cum-admission alongwith other general merit and reserved category candidate as per their merit order.

Scouts and Guides

Candidates who as Scouts / Guides have received the “President Award” during 5 years period of studyin Karnataka between 8th to 12th standards, provided that the candidates shall enclose a xerox copy of thePresident’s Award Certificate along with the application

d) Children of Defense Personnel

Subject to the conditions laid down under Clause E, F & G of domicile requirement, Defense Personnelmeans a person in Defense Service including Personnel belonging to Civil GT COYSASC who were CivilianClass III or class IV Government servants and Border Roads Organizational Personnel” (Vide NotificationNo ED 189 TGL 94Bangalore dated 29.07.1994 and as amended from time to time)

Candidates claiming eligibility under Clause (e) of this brochure should produce the certificate ofemployment issued by the Controlling Office in the precribed format as given in Certificate-XIV wherethe parent is working, indicating the period during which the parent had worked in Karnataka.

Candidates claiming eligibility under Clause (f) of this brochure should produce a certificate from theRecord Office of the Defence Unit in the prescribed format as given in Certificate-XV indicating that theparent had declared a place in Karnataka as his/her hometown at the time of joining the service.

Candidates claiming eligibility under Clause (g) of Item - 6 of brochure should produce a certificate fromthe Controlling Office in the prescribed format as given in Certificate-XVI indicating the period duringwhich the parent has worked in Karnataka, the present place of posting and also the fact that his familyis permitted to stay in Karnataka.

e) Children of Ex-ServicemenSubject to the conditions laid down under Clause H of domicile requirement, Ex-servicemen for thepurpose of this clause includes personnel belonging to Civil GT COUS, ASC who were Civilian Class III orClass IV Government Servants, who became permanently disabled or were killed during hostilities

f) Candidates with Physically Challenged

The Candidates with physical disability of above 40% should produce a Medical Certificate issued bycompetent Doctor of any Government Hospital located in the State of Karnataka in the field of concerneddisability. Candidates suffering from hearing disability should compulsorily obtain and produce a BSER(Brain Stem Evoked Response) Audiometry report from NIMHANS / Manipal Hospital/Government Speechand Hearing Institute, Lingarajapuram, Bangalore.

The candidate claiming a seat under the persons with disability category should appear on the appointedday before the Medical Board constituted by the Director of Medical Education, consisting of the SpecialOfficer, three specialists, One each from the Department of Orthopaedics, Opthalmology and ENT. TheMedical Board shall examine the candidate’s Certificate and certify regarding the percentage of disabilityand the decision of the medical board shall be final. For the purpose of this provison, persons with thedisability shall have the same meaning assigned to it, in the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities,Protection of Rights and Participation) Act. 1995 (Central Act. 1/1995). The candidate suffering from lessthan forty per cent of disability shall not be eligible for selection of seat under Physically Disabled category.

g) Candidate from Anglo-Indian CommunityCandidates have to enclose a copy of the certificate issued by the Registered Association of Anglo-IndianCommunity in the State of Karnataka.

Note :

1. The following candidates are not eligible for claiming reservation of seats under 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B asper the G. O. NO. SWD 225 BCA 2000 dated 30th March, 2002 and amendments thereon from time totime (New comprehensive creamy layer policy).

i) Son(s) daughter (s) of the persons specified in the said Govt. Order under item-1

ii) The candidates and either of whose parents/guardian is a Group-A or Group-B officer in theservices of the Government or holds an equivalent post in public sector undertakings or anemployee of a private industry/institution and draws a salary which is not less than that of aGroup-B officer (pay scale of Rs. 6,000 - 11,200)

iii) The candidate and his/her father’s mother’s / guardian’s gross annual income exceeds Rs. 2.00lakhs

iv) The candidate and his/her father’s mother’s / guardian’s holding 10 units of Horticultural Land asspecified in the Karnataka Reforms Act 1961 and such of those holding more than 20 acres ofplantation land.

2. Candidates claiming reservations under SC/ST & Other Backward Communities (Category-1, 2A, 2B,3A, 3B shall have to produce the valid certificate by the appropriate authorities.

3. Candidates claiming under Special Categories i.e., NCC/Sports/Scouts & Guides/Defence/Ex-Servicemen/Anglo-Indians/Physically Disability shall produce valid documents, which is subject toscrutiny / verification and confirmation by the relevant authorities. However, the selection forphysically Handicapped category is subject to the condition those candidates with less than 40% andmore than 75% of the Physical disability.

4. Candidates claiming reservation under Rural Category are governed by the G.O.No. ED 01 TEC 2002Bangalore dated 01.02.2002 of Government of Karnataka and as amended from time to time. Theyare required to produce study certificates from 1st to 10th standard as in the format furnished in theprospectus, certified by the concerned authorities duly affixing the signature, seal & date in theapplication format itself. The list of places which do not come under preview of rural area is alsoenclosed for ready reference (Schedule-II)

5. Candidates claiming reservation for Kannada Medium are required to produce certificates from 1st to10th standard as in the format furnished in the prospectus, certified by the concerned authoritiesduly affixing the signature seal & date.

6. Candidates claiming reservation under Horticulture quota i.e., Horticulturist or children ofHorticulturist including Horticultural Labourer should furnish the Certificate 3 (format furnished inprospectus) duly certified by the Revenue Tahsildar of the area affixing the signature, seal & date inthe application format itself. In the case of candidates whose parents draw salary, they are requiredto produce a Salary Certificate (format furnished in prospectus). In the case of candidates whoseparents have income from sources other than Agriculture and salary are required to produce anAffidavit (format furnished in prospectus).

7. If any seats reserved in favour of candidates under vertical reservation referred above are not filledup due to non-availability of eligible candidates, such vacant seats shall stand transferred to theGeneral Merit. Similarly, if any seats reserved in favour of candidates belonging to special category(horizontal reservation) referred to above fall vacant due to non availability of eligible candidatebelonging to such categories of vertical reservation shall stand transferred to their respectivecategories specified.

8. Candidates from states other than Karnataka are not eligible to seek admission directly for all Under-graduate degree Programmes in the University. However, they can apply to the Indian Council ofAgricultural Research, New Delhi. They will have to submit a separate application as and when calledby ICAR, New Delhi and take All India Competitive Examinations and attend Counselling at New Delhifor seat allotment, For details, the candidates may contact; The Assistant Director General (Edn.),Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Krishi Anusandhana Bhavan, Pusa, New Delhi-110 012.

4) Foreign Nationals and Non Resident Indians (NRI’s)/Children of NRIs

There is also a provision for admitting 15 per cent to Horticulture and allied courses over and above theprescribed intake, to the eligible Foreign Nationals/ NRIs /Children of NRIs irrespective of the place wherethey had their previous education under the special quota. They should apply directly to the Registrar,University of Horticultural Sciences, Sector No – 60, Navanagar, Bagalkot – 587 102, Karnataka, India alongwith the Educational certificate, Proof of Status of NRI and other relevant documents.

Candidate belongs to Foreign Nationals shall send their application through Indian Council of AgriculturalResearch or Agencies / Consultants children of NRI’s should send their application along with their Bio-data and proof of their NRI status to the Registrar, University of Horticultural Sciences, Sector No – 60,Navanagar, Bagalkot – 587 102, Karnataka, for verification and confirmation as per regulations.

5) Kashmiri Migrants

Provision is also made to admit one candidate for each degree programme to the eligible Kashmirimigrants as per the G.O. NO. AHD 63 AUM 03, Bangalore dated 10-7-2003 as approved and amended byUHS (B) from time to time. The candidates should apply to the Registrar, UHS, Sector No.60, Navanagar,Bagalkot-587 102 on plain paper affixing their passport size photographs with the following details; (i)Name of the Candidate (ii) Father’s name (iii) Mother’s name, (iv) Nationality, (v) Sex, (vi) Date of Birth,(vii) Individual marks of Physics, Chemistry, Biology obtained in II PUC/12th Standard with maximum marks(viii) Full postal address and PIN code, (ix) Telephone No. with STD code. The applicants should enclosecopies of 10th Standard Marks card, 12th Standard Marks card and IDENTITY CARD issued by thejurisdictional Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Government of Karnataka in support of theirstatus as Kashmiri migrants.

LEGAL JURISDICTIONAny disputes / issues arising regarding conduct of all the examinations related to the UG admission byUHS, Bagalkot shall be settled in the Courts within the jurisdiction of Bagalkot Town only

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION(can be downloaded from website www.uhsbagalkot.edu.in)

Application for admission can be obtained from the Registrar, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot- 587 102, from any of the constituent colleges of the University and the Research Stations viz. Tidagundi(Bijapur), Kumbapur (Dharwar), Ullal (Mangalore), Thithahalli (Shimoga), (for more details referprospectus) or application can also be downloaded from our University website.

Note:*Candidates from foreign countries are required to send their applications through the Indian Councilof Agricultural Research, Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi-110 001.

Filled in application for admission is to be submitted to the Registrar, University of Horticultural Sciences,Sector No. 60, Navanagar, Bagalkot only in the prescribed format on or before the date and time fixed inthe schedule of events as per the Notification No. R/UHSB/UG-Adm-3/2011-12 dated10-05-2011 issued by the University. The details and date of issue of application forms are available inthe Notification. The candidates are required to furnish the relevant information as required in theapplication as specified in prospectus. The fee for application form for general category is Rs. 500/- andfor SC/ST/Cat-1 is Rs. 250/- (The latest caste certificate must be produced). The application form fee is tobe paid in the form of DD drawn in favour of The Comptroller, UHS, Bagalkot payable at Bagalkot.

MODE OF ADMISSIONThe admission to B.Sc. (Hort) degree programme shall be made based on the merit of 50% marks in PCBin second year PUC (Science) and 50% PCB marks obtained in the CET 2011. In case of Agriculturists quota,the merit is based on 25% of marks of PCB in second year PUC (Science) and 25% of marks of PCB in CET2011 and 50% in Practical Test to be conducted by UHS, Bagalkot on 10-07-2011.

The admission of candidates is subject to the following conditionsa) Verification of original marks card and other details furnished in the application

b) Seats being vacant

c) Payment of prescribed fees to the University at the time of counselling-cum-Admission

d) Student should pay the prescribed fee in the form of Demand Draft drawn in Favor of “TheComptroller, UHS, Bagalkot” on Counselling Cum Admission day in the event of his / her selection.

e) Registration of courses before the last date

f) Production of Transfer Certificate from the previous College/Institution

Admission for the reserved seats excluding those set apart for agriculturists or children/a ward ofagriculturists and ICAR nominees shall be made strictly according to the merit of candidates eligible forthe reserved seats, subject to the same condition mentioned as above. If there are any reserved seatsunfilled, such seats shall be deemed to have been transferred to the general pool and filled up asindicated above. Transfer of students after admission from one college to another college will not beentertained.

For the seats reserved for Horticulturist/Agriculturist or Children/Ward of Horticulturists/Agriculturists, Agriculture labour mode of admission shall be as under:

The merit is based on 25% of marks of PCB in second year PUC (Science) and 25% of marks of PCB in CET2011 and 50% in Practical Test to be condected by UHS, Bagalkot on 10-07-2011. The Practical Test shall beconducted for 200 marks. The candidates who fail to appear for PT are considered as not eligible. Thosecandidates who attend the Practical Test and score less than 100 marks in PT are also considered as noteligible for claiming seats under this quota.

The seats will be allotted based on the merit and roster as prescribed by the Government of Karnatakafrom time to time.

COUNSELLING-CUM-ADMISSIONThe counselling will be held at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hall, Near Old RTO Circle, Sector No : 37,Navanagar, Bagalkot – 587 102, Karnataka on 1st to 3rd, July 2011, from the merit list prepared by theAdmission Committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor. The committee will invite for counselling anumber of candidates under each category of reservation or general as the case may be, larger than theactual number required under each category in the same order or merit, to verify if the candidatepossesses good moral habits and is physically fit, eligibility of Horanadu/Gadinadu Kannadigas as also toverify the facts furnished in the application form, without assigning any marks. From out of those whoactually attended the counselling and found eligible, the committee may recommend for admission theactual number of candidates required under each category and to be kept in reserve in the same order ofmerit as their names appear in the main list under each category.

Applicants will be required to appear for Counselling/Practical Test at their own cost as indicated inprospectus. For date of counseling please refer University website on or after 27-06-2011.

REGISTRATION

Admission is incomplete without registration of required courses relevant to the degree programme.Hence all the students admitted to B.Sc.(Hort.) at different colleges should register in their respectivecolleges on or before the last day of registration in person. Failure to register for courses in the firstsemester on or before the notified date results in forfeiture of admission.

Registration for the first time in the University

The students who have been admitted shall report for registration on the first day of the semester at therespective colleges of the University.

Orientation programme shall be conducted by the concerned Dean of the college for the benefit of thenewly admitted students.

The students admitted from the waiting list shall register within four weeks of commencement of thefirst semester, failing which they will forfeit their admission.

Attendance in respect of fresh students shall be reckoned from the date of his/her registration.

The candidates admitted to undergraduate programme shall not be permitted to drop the first semesterand the admission of such candidates shall stand automatically cancelled.

Students who register for the first semester should complete at least one course satisfactorily earning agrade other than SA (Shortage of Attendance)/US (Unsatisfactory) or F (Fail) failing which the admissionshall stands cancelled.

Note:

1) The fee concession is provided to SC/ST/Cat-I candidates as per Govt. order provided they produceCaste Income Verified Certificate from the competent authorities, failing which they have to remit thefull fees.

2) Registration fees shall not be refunded once the student has registered for a course in the University.Tuition and other course fees paid by the student admitted to various degree programmes of theUniversity shall not be refunded except when students registering for a semester are forced to dropout from the semester by the University for any reasons other than on disciplinary grounds.

3) The students who have been admitted from one degree programme to another and one college toanother are exempted from payment of Tuition fees, Caution money deposit and N.C.C deposit providedthey have paid fees in the first admission during the same academic year.

4) All the students who are admitted to the degree programme should pay the prescribed fees (Nonrefundable) on the spot and on the day of admission.

The University awards Merit Scholarships and General Scholarships based on the merit of the students ofall the colleges as per regulation and also Free-Studentships as per the Government orders.

Hostels

Hostel accommodation to the eligible students will be provided at the campus subject to the availability.The prescribed application forms can be had from the office of the Hostel Warden on payment of Rs. 50/- in cash or through the crossed Indian Postal Order drawn in favour of the Warden of the respectivecollege and submit the same to the concerned Warden along with a self-addressed and stamped coverbefore the commencement of the academic year.

The student shall pay the following fees at the time of admission to the hostel:

In addition to the above fees, the boarder shall pay a room rent of Rs. 80/-, Rs. 100/- as maintenance andRs. 100/- establishment charges per month. He shall also pay the mess, electricity and establishmentcharges, etc., as per hostel regulations.

University CafeteriaCafeterias are attached to the campuses for the benefit of the students and staff.

Medical ExaminationEvery student admitted to the college shall be required to undergo medical Examination once every yearin accordance with the direction issued by the University. Medical facility for simple ailments is availablein the campus.

General

The students admitted to the University shall abide by the Rules and Regulations prescribed by theUniversity from time to time. Separate rules in respect of student discipline in classrooms, hostel andcampuses etc. are available in the University Academic Information & Regulation Booklet.

All the students shall give an undertaking that he/she shall abide by the rules and regulations of theUniversity as amended from time to time.

The University reserves the right to change any or all conditions prescribed in this prospectus at itsdiscretion.
