and congratulations on choosing the University of North Alabama! The decision to attend college is one of the most important decisions of your life. UNA will be a different place between the time you enter as a freshman and when you graduate. You will soon discover that the community of the student body continues to grow and develop eternal friend-ships. We will teach you the Lion Pride this great institution carries.
One of our key features is our active campus. You direct the trajectory of your life with the decisions you make, including how you participate within the stu-dent body. First and foremost, you are here for academics, but do not let studying consume your life. Get involved. The friendships you create during your fresh-man year will prove to be everlasting.
How do you get involved? I’m glad you asked. Check out OrgSync for a list of over 140 Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) to join! We offer fraterni-ties and sororities, Student Orientation Advising Registration (SOAR) counselor positions, and LaGrange Society ambassadors.
You like making a change? Then check out the freshman branch of our Student Government Association (SGA): Freshman Forum. You will be dealing with commUNAl freshman issues and developing UNA into a better campus.
RSOs don’t sound like your thing? Try intramural sports, club sports or the Outdoor Adventure Center at our Student Recreational Center (SRC). We even have a bass-fishing team…
Words of advice: get a planner… you’ll need it. Grades and extracurricular involvements can consume your life. This is not high school, so you will need to coadUNAte the two. All of your friends may be spending their evenings attend-ing the activities we host, but it is not worth missing out on a chance to study a few chapters of your textbook.
If you have any questions about UNA, or suggestions on how to expand our Lion Pride, then email me at [email protected], add me on Facebook or tweet me @weriley23. My office is located across from the UNA Game Room (The Lion’s Den). Stop by anytime.
Never forget our mantra: We are a student-led campus with faculty and staff support.
ROAR Lions!
