Corpus Christi is one of the smaller Oxford Colleges, with only 250 Undergraduates, and is located at the heart of the city centre. The college’s 16th century library houses over 60,000 books as was once described as one of the wonders of the world by humanist Erasmus. The facilities also include excellent IT facilities and a large multi-purpose auditorium. Students also have access to a sports field and boathouse, as well as the beer cellar. The college holds an annual EP/PPL dinner to celebrate the start of the summer with all its students. The college also holds an annual summer tortoise race!

Harris Manchester College is the only Oxford college to admit solely mature students (21+ with no upper age limit). It prides itself on being a very friendly and supportive place to study. The College is only a short walk from the science area, the University Parks, the centre of the city and main university libraries. Recently refurbished or new accommodation is provided for first and final year students; the JCR and MCR are vibrant and run combined events. Students have free access to a gym in the city, can join the College choir, receive free piano and singing lessons and can row in a combined team with Wadham students. Access to the beautiful College library is 24 hours with a very generous book fund to buy books of the students’ choice.

Harris Manchester

Jesus CollegeJesus College was founded in 1571 under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, making it the only Elizabethan College within the University of Oxford. Jesus college is one of the medium sized colleges based right in the city centre on Turl Street. This is within easy walking distance of the science area and a short bike ride to the Linguistics and Philosophy faculties. Jesus college is renowned for its close-knit community and was recently voted the best college for student satisfaction. The college guarantees full accommodation for all its undergraduates for all three years of study. Meals are provided on a pay-as-you-go basis and added to students termly bill. The Junior Common Room (JCR) boasts a conservatory as well as ping-pong and pool tables. All students also have access to the large sports pavilion and boathouse.

Located next to the University Parks, Lady Margaret Hall is only a five minute walk to the science area, or a 15 minute walk to the city centre. Due to it’s proximity to the University Parks, Lady Margaret Hall enjoys beautiful gardens which run down to the river, complete with a boathouse and it’s own punts. Undergraduates are guaranteed a room on the college site for all three years of study, with some being much larger compared to other colleges, and the majority being ensuite. LMH was originally founded in 1878 as a women’s only college, to right the wrong that only men could receive a university education, however 100 years later the college opened its doors to men, and is now admits over 400 undergraduates each year.

Magdalen (pronounced ‘Maudlen’) has some of the most beautiful buildings in Oxford and is set in 100 acres of grounds which includes the Deer Park and Addison’s riverside walk. As one of the larger colleges in Oxford the college is able to provide accommodation for all three years of study. The college sits next to Magdalen bridge which is a short walk to the science area or 10 minute cycle to the Philosophy or Linguistic Faculties. The river Cherwell runs through the college grounds and students can take full advantage of the college boathouse and punting boats, as well as the onsite facilities including a professionally maintained football, cricket, rugby and hockey pitches, and five libraries containing over 100,000 volumes.

New College

New College is one of the larger colleges, with 430 undergraduates each year. New College was originally founded as ‘the college of St Mary of Winchester at Oxford’, however almost immediately became known as ‘New College’ to distinguish it from the other Oxford College dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Oriel. New college is a short 5 minute stroll to both the city centre and the science area. The college holds a strong reputation for its music, with an award-winning choir and musicians from all genres from Jazz to Classical. The New College sports pavilion can be found close by which includes numerous sporting pitches as well as a boathouse on the banks of the river Thames where students can take advantage of the college punts.

The Queen’s College, or Queen’s as it’s known to students, is situated on the High Street, a few minutes walk from the main Bodleian libraries and a short walk to the science area or city centre. Buses stop right on their doorstep to the wider city, London and London based airports. Accommodation is guaranteed for all three years of study, with many rooms being ensuite. The magnificent gardens provide a place to relax, conveniently located next to the college bar. The sports field is located by the river where students can use the boathouse and other facilities. All EP/PPL students become members of ‘The Queen’s College Psychology Society’ which meets once a term to engage in both academic and social activities, including the popular Psychology society dinner every summer.

Pembroke College is located in the city centre, a short distance from St Aldates where a short walk in either direction will take you to the meadows and down to the river, or into the city centre. The college is committed to admitting students from all back-grounds, with a strong academic outreach programme and connections to schools across the UK. Accommodation is offered for all three years, with third year students often choosing to live in the large annexe building next to the river. The college offers meal plans, ‘pay-as-you-go’ options as well as shared kitchens for self-catering options. Pembroke also has modern facilities including a multi-purpose auditorium, seminar rooms and art gallery. Like many colleges Pembroke also has its own boathouse, with one of the largest and most successful college boat clubs in Oxford.

St Anne’s College

St Anne’s College is slightly north of the city centre, a 5-minute bicycle ride or a short walk away. Located between the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter and the University Parks, students can make use of the short cut through the parks to the Science Area. The Philosophy faculty is a short distance away and Linguistics is within easy BBB-walking distance too. Accommodation is offered for all three years of study with half the rooms being ensuite and some rooms specially designed for disabled access. Food is popular among students, with formal guest nights where students can bring friends, with self-catering kitchens also being provided. In 2016 St Anne’s opened its new library, with large workspaces and a dedicated space for learning information skills. St Anne’s has a strong international community with diversity from different social and cultural backgrounds from all around the world.

Founded in 1963, St. Catherine’s College (known as ‘Catz’) is Oxford’s youngest undergraduate college, and has one of its largest and most diverse communities. It treasures the traditional values of Oxford college life, but its modern architecture gives it a distinctive position to pursue a modern agenda. It has a tutor in each component of the PPL degree. With over 470 study bedrooms, the vast majority of undergraduates live in college for three years, benefitting from being near to its library, dining hall, spacious JCR and gym. Meals are provided on a pay-as-you-go basis with six different serving options a day – many students try the ‘6-meal-challenge’! The College is closely located to the city centre and the Science Area, but also surrounded by meadows, parks and water. The Philosophy and Linguistics faculties are less than a ten-minute cycle away.

St Hilda’s admits the most students for EP and PPL each year, giving the college a strong academic community of students and tutors in all three subjects. The college also has many students in related, medical and philosophical, fields so there are unique opportunities for interdisciplinary study and research events. Located in beautiful grounds along the River Cherwell, St Hilda’s is close to the High Street, the University Sports Complex and near to the many facilities of East Oxford. The first and third year students are provided with rooms in college, with second year students able to rent nearby houses. The College has one of the two purpose-built performance venues in Oxford; the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, offering all types of music, five practice rooms and a recording studio for students to use.

Known as ‘Teddy Hall’, the college is one of the oldest in Oxford with buildings dating from every century since the 16th. The college is thought to be one of the oldest surviving academic societies to house and educate undergraduates in any university. The college is located off the High Street within a short distance of the libraries, shops and science area. The college library is located in the adjoining Norman church of St Peter-in-the-East, giving a peaceful place to study. The college offers rooms for at least two years, with additional accommodation in annexes within a short walk of the college. The college has a strong artistic community centred around the John Oldham Drama Society. A multi-gym can be found at the Norham Gardens centre, with sports facilities at the University Parks and a boathouse on the River Isis.

The Bryant Society (named after the first Fellow in Psychology at St John’s) meets regularly for dinners and talks, bringing undergraduates together with the postgraduate psychology community. For PPL applicants you can study Psychology with Philosophy or Linguistics. Accommodation is provided for all three years of study with most meals being provided on a self-service basis. The college facilities include an art gallery, squash courts and two gyms on site. The college also has television rooms which broadcasts its own TV station, reflecting the wide range of views and interest across the study body.

St Hugh’s is one of the largest colleges in Oxford with strong links to all three subjects. The college was initially established for women, with men admitted from 1986. Located in the North of the city the college enjoys large grounds and tranquil gardens, with the city centre a 15 minute walk. The science area can be found across the parks, with Philosophy and Linguistics a short cycle away. Accommodation (on site) is available for all three years of study with around half the rooms having their own bathroom. Shared kitchens are also available as an alternative to eating in the college hall, with meals being paid for using a cashless card system.

Somerville CollegeSomerville college admits EP students, with Philosophy and Linguistics students being admitted from 2017 onwards. The college started as a women’s only college, with men being admitted from 1994. This college has produced two British Nobel Prize winners as well as two prime ministers. Located on Woodstock Road, the college is close to the city centre with the Philosophy Faculty a stone’s throw away and the science area a short walk. Accommodation is guaranteed for all first and third year students and is available for most second years. The college has an active music society with a choir that has embarked on several national and international tours, making Arts Week an annual highlight. Sport facilities include an on-site fitness suite as well as playing fields and a boathouse.

Known as ‘Univ’ across the University, located on the High Street in the city centre the college is a short walk to the science area or cycle to the Philosophy or Linguistic faculties. The college has particular strength in neuroscience and provides in house teaching for the PPL degree. The college holds regular subject dinners and extra- curricular events ranging from undergraduates, postgraduates and senior professors. Accommodation is offered for all three years of study with many having shared kitchens available. The college has strong music and drama societies, with the Univ Players putting on an annual summer production. Univ also runs its unique Ambassador Scheme where students can work with schools and pupils in their applications for university.

Wadham College only admits for the BA Experimental Psychology course. Located in the city centre the college is across the road from the Bodleian Library and the science area is around the corner. Building schedules permitting, Wadham will be offering undergraduates starting in 2018 and beyond, accommodation in College-owned sites throughout their studies. On site there is a gym, squash court, laundry room and bar. Students also have access to a large sports ground and boathouse. The Moser Theatre hosts a variety of student productions throughout the year, and musicians can use the Holywell Music Room (the oldest custom-built concert hall in Europe). The college also runs Wadstock every spring, a music festival held in its beautiful gardens.

Wadham College

Worcester CollegeSet right next to the city centre it’s hard to believe this college is on 26 acres of beautiful gardens with wooded grounds, sports fields and a lake. The college is also close to the train station and Linguistic Faculty, with Philosophy and the science area being a short cycle away. The college aims to provide accommodation to undergraduates for all three years of study. Over two thirds are ensuite with kitchen facilities also available to students. The college is the only college in Oxford to have a sports field on site, as well as a multi-gym. Worcester also have a boat-house on the River Thames. Students can also enjoy the water with views of the college’s very own lake, giving students a tranquil place to study and relax whilst being a short distance from the centre of Oxford.
