About me

Commencing my studies within the field of Fine Art has provided me with a unique design approach which stems from a creative and innovatory perception� Visually appealing compositions and concepts are something which will forever entice me, but design also reaches into realms of alternate possibilities and new visions for living� Design can inspire and reshape the ways in which we live, and this is what really excites me�

Enviroloution

This design presents a concept for the new cultural hub 'Enviroloution', which is a sustainable, re-directive design that caters for an emerging multidisciplinary design firm as well as a gallery, cafe and outdoor pavilion.

Commissioned by the owner of the building, the design team has been given the freedom to select these additional businesses to exist within the space, in order to create a mini cultural hub and gather likeminded views and encourage community involvement�

The Hub’s Vision

The emerging design consultancy has used the design of the hub itself in order to showcase their company’s philosophies on environmental sustainability and redirective design approach� The emerging design company’s philosophy, which is to adopt the notions of platforming and design futuring, executes this concept on the basis of presenting design as a practice which could have greater agency within diverse disciplines� It dismisses the consistent view of design as a narrow discipline without cultural significance, and conversely brings to forefront under a critical eye the underlying global and environmental issues of modern design� The design company idealises an organisational business which exceeds merely providing a service to an industry, and is committed to a direction based on platforming and futuring�


Platforming will be an essential notion of Enviroloution which is demonstrated through the additional selected businesses to reside within the hub, all of which share common environmental visions� The concept of platforming is to embrace knowledge from varying disciplines in order to facilitate a bridging of knowledge and dialogue in regards to sustainability� Essentially, this process would form an environment ideal for employment exchange between the varying businesses and would constitute a community with a new visionary direction�

In terms of the building’s construction, it is envisioned that the building encourages and embraces its philosophy through demonstration�This will be achieved through using environmentally sustainable practices, which are considered in the construction, maintenance and material lifespan right through to how the hub will operate�

The design

The building is designed to promote minimal environmental impact through energy and resource sustainment� Construction will be carefully considered in terms of climatic environment to encourage natural air ventilation and in turn reduce costs on air conditioning and environmental impacts� Ideally, the building will be powered via alternative sources of clean and renewable energy� The building makes use of recycled shipping palettes which can be seen as the columns, and are also used as sculptural noise insulators throughout the entire hub�


Outdoor area

The communal outdoor area is consists of four large shade structures which also act as water tanks�This low-tech design is implemented to collect and reuse rainwater and also acts to apply evaporative cooling by using the heat of the sun and wind to freshen the area under the water tanks proximal to the building�This outdoor area becomes a welcoming communal space and encourages cafe customers and gallery viewers whom will be invited to become a part of the hub and learn about the company’s environmental philosophies� It is also envisioned that this space could become a potential market site which would attract more community members�

Misty

This design provides a concept for an on campus university student lounge, ‘Misty’� ‘Misty,’ inspired by a fresh morning and alluding to ‘clearing one’s head’, has encapsulated this spirit through cool, fresh colours and curved shapes which create a calming and soothing environment� The ultimate desire here was to create a space where students could retreat to eat and socialise or relax and re cooperate between study sessions� The design provides a communal lounge area, kitchenette and dining bench as well as individual hubs ideal for study�


Towards the back of the lounge is a secluded hammock area which provides a place for the students to relax and recline� The lounge overlooks the universitiy’s central courtyard and is equipped with a BBQ facility and outdoor seating area which is ideal for functions and events�

Conceptualisation of Journey

The design team District Design offers a community lifestyle that can provide a safe and secure environment for its inhabitants� ‘Advancing City’ is composed through the symmetry of tessellations, allowing for optimum public benefits such as modular shared meeting/dining/living spaces as well as an emergency function that interlocks for maximum weather protection� These tessellations are symbiotic, allowing for alterations like the expanding community but are equally effective in smaller family groups� Advancing City can be easily disassembled for movement when necessary and reassembled in any location, making use of existing city dwellings but also offering the ability to stand alone, when resources are scarce�

How people evolve within the structure

`Advancing city’ is a community of rich values and rituals� It is a multi-generational district in which people have come together not by common philosophy but by common ground and necessity� The lifestyle revolves around a vast knowledge base, focused on education for survival and evolution� The community share a counter capitalist logic as material possessions have lost their value and have become undesirable�


The Advancing City lifestyle reconnects work and pleasure by reintroducing craft and skills to improve health and environmental impact� Community members adapt and change their skills sets when necessary environmental factors intervene but also have the freedom to trade goods and services within the common areas� People in this community live with the environment and construct their own personal belief systems but ultimately work together towards the larger picture: survival of the human race�

In recognizing that space limitations are often an issue when designing centres for the disabled, it was decided that the rear of the building be fitted with large paneled glazing to entirely open up the space and provide viewing to the outdoor garden� This design speaks of modern open plan living and completely opens up the whole area, provides natural lighting and connects the interior and exterior elements of the design�

The Sprout Respite Center is a high quality, developmental facility designed for children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy. Our design team endeavored to produce a nurturing, supportive, meaningful and interactive multisensory environment for the children of the center as well as a functional, efficient and productive working environment for its staff.

The center has been designed to encourage the children to learn and play creatively and participate in experiences which enrich all areas of their development� Ultimately the design of the Sprout Respite Center has been specifically tailored with attention to its occupants and the nature of their needs and behaviors� To counteract the limitations and restrictions faced by many disabled persons/ persons with cerebral palsy the centre’s design has been created to be as adaptable as possible, with multifunctional design elements introduced throughout to provide flexibility and ease of function for its occupants�

Kitchen design

The L-shaped kitchen provides adequate working space for multiple users, whether that be individual use, or with a carer and also proves an effective design for users with various mobility issues� Careful placement of the kitchen elements provides for ease of functionality, and additionally the kitchen provides specific design elements for the centre’s occupants� Adjustable height table tops, adjustable pull down overhead cupboards, adequate leg space underneath workstations, pull out workstations, single handed mixer taps, an eye level oven with correlating pull out bench space, side hinged cupboards etc� are all integrated into the kitchen design to provide ease of use for wheelchair acess or disabled persons� The adjustable kitchen design also inspired an adjustable eating area which provides two large, long wooden tables which can be pulled to the ceiling to allow for additional floor space�


The Quiet Zone

The quiet zone is a calming multisensory area for children to rest and recuperate� Within this space, bubble tubes and slow moving coloured lighting effects will be projected on the ceiling and walls as calming stimuli assisting in relaxation� To assist relaxation a variety of tactile items including cushions and beanbags which emit light, sound and vibrations have also been implemented within this area� These devices provide visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic and olfactory stimulation for the children�

Three specialised adjustable beds have been incorporated within the quiet zone and can be adjusted into seating if required� In order to allow this space to be multifunctional and adaptable, a sliding partition wall has been introduced� This partition allows the quiet zone to become an additional space for the communal area if desired�

Flipside Circus

This design presents a concept for the rejuvenation of the Flipside Circus sporting club, which is a community hall that runs dance, circus, life drawing and singing classes� The existing design which is divided into two major training areas requires greater flexibility and adaptability so that is can accommodate for multiple uses and be able to hold up to four separate training sessions at once� The proposed design also includes a new spectator grandstand and additional furniture which encourages community involvement within the club and serves to cater for the needs of large scale performances�


Joinery design

In creating an adaptable mutli-use space, I have designed a modular joinery piece which acts as a storage space for equipment as well as a room configuration device� The design makes use of multiple storage units on wheels, as well as a number of pull out wall systems positioned around the warehouse’s walls� These vinyl pull out walls are retractable and can be easily assembled and disassembled and the storage pieces can be positioned appropriately to create varying room configurations� This concept not only meets the physical requirements of the club but also aspires to be a welcoming and appealing space which will increase renting opportunities and then number of performances held, and ultimately attract the public, encourage funding and support the Flipside community�

Stones Corner Redesign

This design provides a concept for the rejuvenation of Stones Corner, which is envisioned to become one of Brisbane’s cultural precincts� Mondo Organics has been relocated and extended between two sites at the corner of Jeavons Lane & Logan Road� The space between the two stores has been connected with a dramatic shade structure, and will be utilised for functions and events which engage the local community�


The two spaces have been appropriated from the original Mondo Organics brand and refashioned into a retail store, ‘Seed and Spoon,’ and a retaurant and cooking school, ‘Cook and dine�’ The restaurant specialises in modern Australian organic cuisine and the adjoining cooking school holds classes weekly� The notion of the cooking school is to encourage a slower way of life, teach the much valued skill of cooking fresh food & growing produce� A retractable wall sparates the cooking school and restaurant, and when classes are not on, it is used a a show room cooking kitchen for the restaurant’s chefs� Large sliding glass walls line the outside of the cooking school, which can be opened up to the communal area when functions and classes are held�

Seed and Spoon

The retail store, ‘Seed and Spoon’, works in conjunction with the restaurant and cooking school to promote a more aware and environmentally friendly lifestyle, and will bring social and economic viability to the precinct� Products sold will be sourced locally and will support local designers, artists, and small business owners�

Recycled drainpipes throughout the central area contain herb gardens which are used by the restaurant, and double as public seating to encourage community gathering�

This design concept is a rejuvenation and fresh look for the ‘HUB’ make up store, located at 144 Adelaide Street Brisbane� The small retail store, which specialises in formal and fantasy make up and student tuition, resides down an arcade intersecting with a busy Brisbane street� The design concept seeks to attract customers through a modern and unique feel and provide a more comfortable and efficient work space for the business�


As you venture into the shop you are greeted by the front desk and main point of sale which sits in front of a wall height black board which the make-up artists use as a canvas for displaying fantasy chalk art� An angular continuity is carried throughout the store’s design beginning with the front display window, the display cabinets, smaller product display benches, and mirrors� The back of the store provides a place for employees to relax and take a break and is equipped with a kitchenette and further storage space which is concealed from customers by a curtain�

The new design presents an alternative entrance for the store, and the existing workspaces have been reorganised to provide a more guided customer experience with a dynamic and space saving arrangement� The store’s front now acts as a display window with an eye catching gold sculptural shelf which hangs from the ceiling and acts to exhibit new products� Directly beneath this is the main work station where potential customers can view the make-up artists at work as they pass by, which provides the store with a directly identifiable brand�


The design concept seeks to capture the essence of ‘HUB’ through its feminine and fantasy like appeal and provide an interesting and unique fit out which attracts customers and provides a comfortable and efficient work space for its employees�

The main make-up work station has been designed to be multifunctional in that it can act as a seat, and also transforms into a bench when unused� To the right of the seat is a portable make up cabinet which the make-up artist can easily access while at work, and they can also use the adjustable workstation as further bench space for products�

It is envisioned that the store’s fit out can be easily disassembled and reassembled as it is uncertain as to how long the store will reside in its current location� The joinery and furniture has been designed to be modular for transportation ease� For example the shelving and underneath draws are detachable and the main work station and point of sale are unfixed�

This business card was designed for a make-up specalist who endeavoured to

market herself as a emerging and innovative artist� The sketch and adjusted

image which I created of the woman alludes to a sense of fun, feminity,

beauty and mystery�
