Unleash the power of career love to thrive in a VUCA world
New Year Greetings!!!!
Today, we witness very tough job environment, frequent layoffs, unemployment, skills gaps and
evidence of talent war. We hear these updates most often from friends, peers and cousins in today’s
dynamic business environment. As you all aware, we live in a VUCA world. It stands for V - Volatility,
U – Uncertainty, C- Complexity and A – Ambiguity. I call it as ‘Planned Uncertainties.’
I am just wondering if we become a victim of VUCA in future, how we overcome these difficulties to
sustain a livelihood. Here are my few career love tips in this New Year to thrive in a VUCA world
based on my 2015 VUCA experience:
Invest in SIPs: In the world of constant changes, we need to keep ourselves abreast of latest
happenings and develop new skills in our domain area to sustain a livelihood without any interruption.
Trust me; every job is temporary today. So, start investing in SIPs (Self-development Investment
Plans), a strategic career planning tool.
Create your compelling CUSPs: By default, professionals like us are forced to love our job today
that in turn will enable us to develop a domain expertise in our field of interest. In my opinion, this
would be a key career differentiator to sustain our job in the long run. So, be prepared to create your
compelling CUSPs today i.e. Career Unique Selling Propositions.
Become an Intrapreneur: We all know about entrepreneurs but today organizations start looking for
intrapreneurs. These individuals who possess the qualities of entrepreneurs such as taking risks,
trying new things, challenging status quo and working in creative ways. The onus lies not only with
organizations but also with individuals to mobilize these qualities to take your career to the next level
in a VUCA world.
I am writing this post on December 31, 2015 to thrive a VUCA world in 2016 as follows:
V– Volatility to Develop your vocational skills
U – Uncertainty to Learn to embrace change
C – Complexity to Become a continuous learner
A – Ambiguity to Follow your aspirations
