Myles Munro Myles Munro co-founded Mr Burger in 2012. The seed was sown during a trip to the USA where Myles became fascinated by the diversity of the American burger experience.

When he returned to Australia, Myles and his business partner ran a pub in Melbourne and were looking to give their food offering a bit of a twist.

The co-founders started plans to build a food truck for the pub’s foyer. They took out a lease on an old mechanic’s warehouse around the corner and put the truck there. After toying with a dozen or so food styles, they decided a burger truck was the way to go and so, Mr Burger was born. Myles is now a director at 100 Burgers Group, which includes other projects such as Belles Hot Chicken, Portello Rosso, and Brunswick Mess Hall.

Poppy King Poppy King became obsessed with lipstick when she used her mother’s to play dress up as a child. But, Poppy never really found a lipstick she loved in Melbourne. She didn’t like the look, feel, smell or the shades. So, at 18, inspired by vintage glamour, Poppy created her own bold lipsticks.

It was the start of Poppy’s entrepreneurial journey. She released her first range of lipsticks to the market in 1992 – selling over $1 million worth of her “Poppy” branded lipsticks. A sum that grew to over $4 million the following year. Barneys New York picked up the range in 1993, taking the brand across the world. In 1995, Poppy became the Young Australian of the Year, gaining a global reputation as an expert in beauty products with an eye for a good business opportunity. Her passion, talent and experience led to four successful years at Estee Lauder Corporation before launching her own brand, Lipstick Queen in 2006.

Today, she is the world’s leading expert in lip colour and Lipstick Queen is sold in boutiques across the USA and UK. Her entrepreneurial journey is mapped in her first book: Lessons of a Lipstick Queen; Finding and Developing the Great Idea that can Change your Life.

EVENT PATRONS

Lesley worked part-time in a bakery while studying at university. She graduated in the 1970s before teaching at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak for around 10 years. In 1980, she was married with a young baby and keen to create a livelihood for the family. Her husband, Roger was a fourth generation baker so they understood the business and decided to open the first Bakers Delight on Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn with their friend Gary Stephenson. The bakery was a success and the couple bought out Gary in 1982. By 1988, Roger and Lesley had a chain of 15 bakeries, and started looking at franchising as a different business structure that would help them grow more.

In 2006, Lesley was awarded the Order of Australia in recognition of her work in business and philanthropy. In 2015, Bakers Delight raised a record breaking $1.79 million for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), with their annual Pink Bun campaign taking the total raised since this partnership began to more than $15 million.

Today, Bakers Delight is a successful business with more than 700 locations across Australia, Canada, USA and New Zealand. With an estimated annual revenue of $595 million the company also supports a range of health and community-based organisations.

Resilience, a positive spirit and a can-do attitude are absolutely vital for anybody to succeed in life.
