Mrs. Ellen Haefling, Secretary [email protected] April 30, 2015 Principal’s Message: I have been proud to watch our 3rd6th grade students applying themselves during ISTEP testing this week. Our students are doing this assessment online and there have been minor glitches that we have been able to work through. As I am sure you are reading in the media, ISTEP+ has been controversial this year with the amount of testing and online issues occurring through CTB. As you read in last week’s newsletter, North Spencer requested paper/pencil after Part 1 of ISTEP+ because of errors on the side of CTB, not because of our own technology and digital exposure. We were denied this request until the first day of the testing window opened. We felt that continuing on with online testing at this stage in the game was in the best interest of the students. The schedule made for students has been purposeful to only allow an hour blocked out for testing a day. This assessment has been rigorous and students have had a good attitude and work ethic. Thanks to the PTO for providing a daily treat to give students a break and commend their efforts! Race for Education: If you have not had a chance, check out the Spencer County Leader this week! We have several shining stars in the paper on race day. It was a beautiful day and appreciate all the volunteers that gave their time to help out. I will post a total from the generous donations we received in next week’s newsletter, along with a list of businesses that donated prizes to our students. A special thank you to DeNae Mulzer and Vickie Snyder for extra time and motivation to continue this grand fundraiser! Robotics Summer Camp is being offered to students that will be in the 5th and 6th grade in the 20152016 school year. The dates of the camp will be June 812 from 9:0011:00 at HHMS.
