President’s Message
Glory Be to Jesus Christ!
On March 26, 2018 a proposal of amalgamation between St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Parish and the Smoky lake/Willingdon Parochial District was submitted and sent to His Grace Bishop Ilarion, His Eminence Metropolitan Yurij, and the Chancellor of the Presidium, Very Rev. Taras Udod. Six months later we have yet to receive a response. His Grace Bishop Ilarion wants to keep St. Michael’s active and is arranging for substitute priests to serve the Divine Liturgy every Sunday.
You are welcome to join us for the Divine Liturgy every Sunday.
The first Bulletin is being issued covering events till Christmas. Keep a copy handy so that you can refer to it from time to time.
We are facing another problem – that of filling Parish Board positions at the end of January, 2019. The Vice-President’s position is vacant and the following positions will be vacant in January – Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and Casino Chairman. All these positions must be filled or we will NOT be able to operate this parish. You are given time to think about this problem and how it can be resolved.
My position as your president has become extremely heavy. I am thankful to people like Elaine and Ron Kluchka and Lloyd Holden who have agreed to help when necessary. Korneil Ozipko also requires your help with working Bingos.
Remember: WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER IN CHRIST, GOD BLESS EVERYONE INVOLVED.
Memoriam:Our deepest sympathies are extended to Josephine Wygera and her family who lost her husband, father, grandfather Mike in July. She too suffered a stroke a week before her husband passed away and is slowly recuperating. Wishing you a speedy recovery Josie.
I finally realize it …. People are prisoners of their phones, that’s why they are called Cell Phones.

POKROVA— OCTOBER 14, 2018Protection of the Most-Holy Theotokos
Description of Icon:An all-night vigil was being served during a hostile attack on the Blessed Mother of God Cathedral of Vlachernae in Constantinople, where the veil of the Theotokos was kept. When the service ended, the people saw the Mother of God approach the Altar and pray for a long time on her knees. Then she removed from her head her veil covering, or omophorion (taken from the Greek word maforion) and extended it over the people in the church as they prayed and sought refuge from the invaders. Her miraculous appearance was in response to their fervent prayers for help. Since then, the Mother of God’s omophirion of
protection has become a symbol of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s care and intercession. In the icon, the Theotokos is holding the protective veil. The Zaporizhian Cossacks always regarded the Mother of God as their patroness.
Significance:Orthodox Christians do not worship Mary the Theotokos — we venerate her. We pray that she as Mother of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, would intercede on our behalf before God.

St. Michael’s Men’s Society
First and foremost, I would like to thank all of those who volunteered their precious time to work at the casino. Your commitment is truly appreciated and we have now received the much-needed funds. Special thanks to Rose for stepping in to help with an unforeseeable situation.
Our 2018 Fall PUSCHENIA will be held on November 10th, 2018. Please encourage your family, friends, neighbors or whoever else might listen and buy a ticket.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, enjoy your time with family and friends.

Thank you to the volunteers who came recently to assist in two cabbage- blanching workshops. Beginning on September 25 workshops will continue EVERY TUESDAY until our Christmas bazaar, scheduled for Saturday, December 1. It is necessary to have weekly workshops to prepare a large quantity of Ukrainian foods, so popular with the general public. The next UWAC meeting is scheduled for Sunday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m., after the fellowship lunch.
