The Dean of Students and Deputy Title IX Coordinator is a boundary-spanning position within the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support, shaping an environment that promotes excellence in student learning, academic success, and personal growth. This position guides student prevention, education, training, positive engagement, and compliance efforts in the areas of Student Conduct, Academic Integrity, and Substance Abuse Prevention and Education. The Dean of Students also fosters student success through leadership of Student Disability Services. This position educates faculty and staff on policies, procedures, student rights and responsibilities, and opportunities for meaningful engagement with students.

ResponsibilitiesInterprets university policies, consulting with academic deans, department heads, faculty and staff regarding practices, procedures, and student rights and responsibilities. S/he supports the university’s commitment to freedom of speech, freedom of expression, right to assembly and due process, and works with academic departments to educate the community on social justice issues. Serving as an appeal officer, this position ensures due process and accountability in student conduct and academic integrity procedures and guides coordination of these processes with staff in residence life and fraternity and sorority life. Administers the student withdrawal process in accordance with the academic bulletin and in partnership with appropriate institutional committees, deans and assistant/associate deans.

Leads the implementation of the institution’s Social Compact report, guides policy and best practice adoption in student sexual assault education, prevention, training and compliance; anti-hazing; non-discrimination; and alcohol and drug prevention and education. The Dean of Students coordinates education, training, reporting, adjudication, and crisis management in the aforementioned areas, working in conjunction with many subject matter experts across campus. S/he is a positive change agent on behalf of student success and well- being.

Serves in a leadership role for the division, providing oversight and strategic vision for compliance with Title IX, the Clery Act, Title VI, and the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. This position partners closely with the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs, Student Health Services, Law Enforcement and Safety, Office of General Counsel, University Housing, faculty, staff, and community agencies to educate students to prevent sexual assault and discrimination, provide a safe and supportive environment for survivors and any student experiencing discrimination, provide appropriate accommodations for students and ensure compliance with institutional, state and federal guidelines. In this role, s/he will monitor evolving laws, regulations and best practices to ensure alignment with policies, procedures and practices across the institution.

Performs as the lead contact for the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support for training and preparation of staff in emergency preparedness and crisis management. S/he works closely with Law Enforcement and Safety and other campus partners to collaboratively prepare for any security challenge or crisis event. During crisis events, the Dean of Students assumes a lead role in communications and response, working closely with the Emergency Management Team, Behavioral Intervention Team, Law Enforcement and Safety, University Housing, Counseling Center, Student Conduct, and other departments, as appropriate.

Minimum QualificationsA terminal degree, including a doctorate in higher education administration or other relevant discipline or juris doctorate and 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration.
