B y the 1920’s, Rotary knew it
could be successful in large
cities, but could it be successful
in smaller cities and even
small towns.
We know the answer because
Rotary is everywhere. It is not
the size of the city but rather, it
is the size of the heart of club
members that determines the
success of a Rotary Club.

Musings From the Club President
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each and every one of you!
As we move into our new year of 2012, I realize that my year as president is half complete.
I thank Tim Brinduse for accelerating his track to becoming President of our club for 2012-
2013. I wish Tim well in his pre-PETS ,PETS (president-elect training) and post-PETS train-ing. Tim, you will get a great over-view of Rotary.
I also want to congratulate Charlie Tyo on his call to become the Rector at Christ Church in
Corning, NY (unfortunately for us, leading to his resignation as our President-elect). I par-ticularly want to thank Charlie for his diligent work for our club as vice-president and then as
President-elect before his call to Corning. Charlie, thank you especially for your work in
revising our Club By-laws and Constitution.
I also want to applaud Bruce Godsave and Darcy Dewar Lynch for the work they are gearing
up for Membership. They have stepped up as we raise the profile of our Membership Commit-
tee and activities.
I do not want to slight thanks to all other members who provide service to our club and ser-vice to the others who we assist. So – thanks to you all in all that you do.
Of note in the new year: The Club’s Board of Directors will be discussing a change in our
regular club meetings. We will be discussing the idea of holding one of our meetings every month in the evening so that we can accommodate current and future Club Members who
cannot make it consistently to our traditional lunch meetings. These meetings will include the
dinners we traditionally have done 4-6 times a year and will also include some pre-dinner
time social hours. Many District Clubs have adopted this practice to grow their clubs by expanding the availability of their clubs to prospective new members.
Let us give thanks in the New Year for the opportunities that Rotary offers us to provide
service to others. Let us all renew our resolution for “Service above Self” in the New Year.
Happy New Year!

The 4-Way Test
“Of all the things we think, say or do;
1. Is it the Truth?
2. Is it Fair to all concerned
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
.Herbert J. Taylor wrote this short document for his Club Aluminum
Company in 1932. It was adopted by Rotary in January 1943.
Mr. Taylor was President of the Rotary Club of Chicago, 1939-1940;

2012 Pasadena Tournament of Roses
Rotary Float Entry
The Rotary Rose Parade
Float Committee’s 34th consecutive entry in the
123rdTournament of Roses Parade will proudly celebrate the work of Rotarians world-
wide. The theme of the parade this year is “Just
Imagine” and the theme of the float is “Inching Toward
the End of Polio.”
The float is not a project of Rotary International, and no Rotary International funds
are used. Our ability to enter a float is dependent solely on the generosity of Rotarians.
Traditionally, the Rotary International President
attends the festivities, and this year we will be honored
to have President Kalyan
Banerjee join us.
The parade will be held on
Monday, January 2nd.

Mission Accomplished
By Samantha Durfee We are proud to announce that we’ve surpassed our original goal of $6,600 to build a school in Las Minitas, Nicaragua by more $4,000! The children of Las Minitas in El Sauce have never had a school of
their own. They had to walk between 45 minutes to an hour and a half to attend school in another community. With no transportation in the area, that means 5-year-olds walk up to 2 miles, sometimes alone, to get to school. In these communities, there is one teacher per school, who often teaches 40 to 45 students.
The proviosnal school that exists now, and soon to be site of the new school. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project and the commu-
nity’s efforts to provide education for their children. Next week, we start construction of the one -room school. It will be made of bricks and cement. The construction will be overseen by ma-sons from El Sauce and we'll have help from several volunteers includ-ing the Lupisella family from Honeoye Falls, N.Y., and ENLACE Project Board member Kris Dreessen, who is also from Honeoye Falls. We would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard these last
two months to raise the funds to build the first ever school in Las Minitas, SUNY Geneseo students held a barbecue and an a capella concert, students in the Honeoye Falls and the Avon school districts held Nickels for Nicaragua campaigns, and we received direct dona-tions from the Geneseo Rotary, Avon Rotary, Chittenango Rotary, and Avon Lions Club to help us meet our goal . Friends and family too have been very generous with their donations to help bring education to this area.
We are also excited to announce that the mayor’s office of El Sauce is partnering with us and donating $2,700 in funds to build a roof! Thanks again to everyone for your continued support. Check the blog for updates and pictures:
