I wanted to congratulate our students on their effort each day!  It’s so exciting to see everyone working so hard as Mrs. Stahler and I visit the classrooms.  The students have been exhibiting ROAR expectations and during class discussions are really taking the time to explain their thinking.  It’s very impressive.  We hope everyone will take time over the holiday to relax and spent time with family.  We encourage you to set aside at least 15 minutes each day to have your children read.  Don’t forget each Guilford student has home access to Dreambox to work on their math skills, you can access the website after visiting www.hcpss.me.

Have a happy and healthy winter break and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2016.

Update from the Yearbook Committee

We want to thank our 5th Graders for voting for our yearbook theme.... the winner is Midterm!

Yearbooks will go on sale starting January 4th, 2016. You may go to the GES website and pay online, pay with cash or check made out to Guilford Elementary School. Please send payments in an envelope with your students name, quantity of books, and homeroom teacher to Mrs. Johnson in the front office.

PTA has been able to budget 5th grade yearbooks, therefore all 5th grade graduates will receive a free yearbook! Thank you PTA!!!!!

Finally, please forward any pictures you have taken of our Guilford students and staff to Mel Kuczynski at [email protected]

A Note From the Health Room – A few reminders as we are in the midst of the cold and flu season-

Students who are ill, and have a fever, should remain at home until their temperature has been normal for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

Students with symptoms of acute illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, colds, rash, persistent cough etc. should be observed at home, and be seen by a doctor if necessary.

If your child is diagnosed with any disease that could be contagious (such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, mumps, chicken pox etc.), please let the school know, so that we may observe for additional cases. The health room tracks communicable diseases such as strep throat, conjunctivitis (pink eye), influenza, mono and fifth disease, in order to do so properly, the health room needs a note from a doctor/medical provider with a clear written diagnosis. Unfortunately, phone calls, emails, and notes from parents, while informative, cannot be considered when tracking communicable diseases; the diagnosis must come from a doctor/medical provider.

Remember, frequent hand washing is known to reduce the spread of disease. Please encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, especially after toileting, before eating, and after they cough/sneeze or blow their nose. Have a restful and enjoyable break. See you in the new year!

Guilford families showed their thanks for their school by sending in 1156 box tops in the month of November.  Our winner for November was 4th grade.  Look out for extra recess 4th graders! K- 118; 1st - 162; 2nd - 289; 3rd - 118; 4th -328; 5th - 141. To date, 4339 valid box tops have been sent in.  Our goal for the year is 12,000, so continue to send in your box tops.  Thanks for supporting Guilford!
