The Minnesota MG Group was founded in 1987 and is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, maintenance and enjoyment
of the MG cars. MG car ownership is not necessary to be a member of the Minnesota MG Group. Correspondence can be
addressed to: Minnesota MG Group - 1316 Martha St N Stillwater MN 55082.
Thank you from Sharon Kelsey
This morning I received the beautiful bouquet of flowers in the photo I've
included. Please share my thank you with all the appropriate MG members.
Such a nice surprise. I'm enjoying them as I progress well with my recovery.
Thank you MG Friends!

Thoughts from the Boss! Greetings and
Holiday
salutations!
By this time the
Minnesota MG
Group Holiday
party is but a fond
memory, unlike
the snow that
came down with the cold that would follow. I
hope everyone that attended had a safe
journey home.
A fine time was had with a slideshow offering
a quick return to top down events of the past
driving year. Why there were several stories
of people having uneventful drives when
attending. Old friends getting reacquainted
and new friendships being formed in the spirit
of MG. And isn’t that what we are all club
members for? I’m sure all of you have perused
the club website and reviewed our by-laws
starting with our purpose:
The Minnesota MG Group MMGG was
founded in 1987 and is dedicated to the
preservation, restoration, maintenance and
enjoyment of all MG cars. The club was
originally organized for MGA, MGB, MGC
and Midget enthusiasts but is also dedicated
to all models of the marque.
As your newest president, my focus will be on
the maintenance and enjoyment of your LBC.
The best defense against the Prince of
Darkness and warm beer is education. The
more you know about the basics that keep
your car running, the more comfortable you
will be driving it on longer trips. And after the
drive, you really learn what cellar temperature
is.
Your club officers and I are looking forward
to an event-filled summer. But remember your
MG can come out anytime for that quick
errand. Drive your car and get younger drivers
interested.
So another thing our club does is to have a
connection to a National and International
club. A review of our clubs roster of 101
members shows of the 23 that have MGA’s 10
are NAMGAR members. That is 13 reporting
they have an A but are not national club
members. NAMGAR was created to
specifically serve the North American MGA
enthusiast, now boasting a worldwide
membership with over 12 countries
represented. Sadly it appears that MGB
owners in our club have an even lower
percentage of NAMGBR members. The North
American MGB Register (NAMGBR) is an
international MG car club serving the needs of
the MGB, MGC, MG Midget, MG 1100/1300
and Post Abingdon MG owners, across North
America.
Just like our club, both national clubs are
managed by officers elected by the
membership. I’m seeing a theme here.
Promote the preservation and enjoyment of
LBC’s and to encourage fellowship. There
really is a MG family! While we do satisfy the
simple requirement to be an Affiliated
Chapter having least eight members who are
also members of NAMGBR, that’s just
something we should do better. What a great
News Years late stocking stuffer-resolution.
Join your Nation club. To quote “Membership
has been proven to be the best investment an
owner can make on their car!”
So, please review your situation and support
our National clubs as they do support us, the
local chapters and the marque.
Our first event of 2017, Boots & Bonnets
hosted by Joan & John Petroff February 18,
will be looking for a banner attendance.
Watch the newsletter for updates and see you
there.
Several members voiced a strong interest in
the Friday night drives. That is the kind of
input officers need to know. Do you want to
share a favorite spot a short drive from your
home?
Cheers,
Gene

VP’s Corner Well it’s a fact, winter
is here and “Baby it’s
cold outside!” We had
a great time at the
MMGG Holiday
Party. It was so good
to see everyone, we
were able to get
reacquainted with old friends and meet some
new. The food was really delicious and there
were door prizes of many. Dave, Diane,
Cindy, Randy and Dawn did a great job.
Thanks to them all!
In my first article I didn’t introduce myself
because I thought most of you were familiar
with my story from the days when I was the
newsletter editor. Looking back I decided I
should introduce myself to members that
haven’t met me. For those of you who do
know me, well the following paragraphs will
be old hat. But who knows maybe there’ll be
something you missed.
My husband (Steve) and I have been members
of the MMGG since 2001. You may have
heard of Steve Rindt before, he and my son
Luke Wahl run, own and operate Eau Claire
British Car. How we came to be members of
the club started when we attended the MG
Odyssey in July of 2001 at the Minnesota State
Fair grounds. Some of you probably attended
this event but for those of you who did not
here’s a little recap. It ran for five days and
over 800 MG’s attended from forty-two states
and nine countries. The North American
MMM Register, The New England T
Register, The North American MGA Register,
The North American MGB Register and The
American MGC Register along with the help
of our very own club, The Minnesota MG
Group put it on.
Steve, Luke and I camped at the fairgrounds
and we brought everything but our MG. I
honestly don’t know what we were thinking?
But the good news is that didn’t last long,
Steve and Luke drove back to Eau Claire and
returned with our 1979 MGB. At that time we
weren’t members of the club but we had such
a good time at the event and met so many nice
people we decided the MMGG was the club
for us.
Since we joined the club we’ve played an
active role in different areas. The first time I
volunteered to help out was in 2005. I was the
regalia person and web master for four years.
Then in 2013 I served as the newsletter editor
for one term. In that same time frame Steve
was the MMGG web master. Steve and I also
run the signature event called Rally in the
Valley we have held that event five times
starting in 2004 through 2006, then in 2009
and 2014. In October of this year I started the
wheels in motion for our next Rally in the
Valley to be held in 2018 and the days will be
May 24th – 27th. As you noticed I bolded 2018
so as you read this you don’t think 2017. Once
the details are worked out they will appear in
the newsletter and on line. But until then if
you are a planner be certain to mark your 2018
calendar. (Good thing most of us have smart

phones because it’s so easy to mark a date that
far into the future.)
Steve and I have also put together some
drives/tours through the years and hope you
will join us again in 2017.
My first MG was a 1976 Midget, there’s a
story that goes with the purchase but the long
and short of it is Steve saw the car for sale
while he on his way home from a trip he took
to Indiana. In the fall of 2007 a good friend of
ours (Mike Schief) decided to sell his 1971
MGB and that car became my 2nd MG. We
sold my Midget in the spring of 2008 so I was
back down to having just one car. Steve on
the other hand has a collection of cars; the
1979 MGB I mentioned in the begging of this
article is one of his. It’s funny how when
you’re married you tend to call everything
“ours”, of course my MGB is his too but I like
to kid around and say, “Oh no – this car is
mine and the rest are yours.”
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and
I’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
Next up is the Bonnet and Boot Pub Party in
February. Mark it on your calendar if you
haven’t already. See you then…
Diane
Editor’s note – Einstein's Riddle Challenge
Since we aren’t out
driving, here’s a little
puzzler to keep you
occupied.
Einstein wrote this riddle
this century. He said that
98% of the world could
not solve it. Email me your answer and you’ll
receive kudos in our next newsletter. I’ll also
publish the answer then.
