By ensuring your children read or practise their times tables over the holiday period, you will be ensuring they don’t slip backwards. I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday. 1st Day of Term 1

From the Principal

Another busy week!

The last week has been an incredibly busy

one with our fantastic Carols evening last

Friday and dedication of the hall to

Margaret Young. It was wonderful to see so

many families join us on Friday night for this

special evening. Margaret’s family were

very touched by the moving speech made

by Tim Challis, our School Council

President. The spirited performances by our

students and the Lalor East community

coming together as one, was the perfect

way to celebrate Marg’s vision.

Yesterday our students had fun at the Mini

Fete and boogied away at the disco. Today

our 5/6s had a fabulous time at Funfields.

Farewell 2016

It is hard to believe it is the end of the year

already. Where has 2016 gone? It seems

like only yesterday that we welcomed our

new preps and wiped a few tears away from

the parents’ eyes as their ‘babies’ began

their exciting education adventure. Now

those same small preps are about to

transition to grade 1.

For our grade 6 parents, the last 7 years

have flown by and it is now time to say

goodbye to our grade 6s and some of our

families who have been with us for a long

time. In those 7 years, we have laughed,

cried and celebrated with you as your

children have grown from little preps to big

grade 6s about to become high school

students. We have loved watching their

development as they have progressed from

learning to read, count and write their name

to being conf ident performers,

accomplished writers and rocket designers.

Who knows what their future will hold but

we know it will be amazing!

Thank you to all the parents who have

assisted throughout the year in so many

different ways including in the classroom,

sizzling sausages, on School Council, at the

Mini Fete or by listening to your child read

at night. Thanks also for attending our

Christmas Carols and making sure your

children looked sensational for their

incredible performances last Friday night.

These things show your children that you

value their education.

The staff at LEPS have worked tirelessly

throughout the year to provide endless

opportunities for our students so they can

grow, learn and develop. They have created

interesting and challenging lessons and

have helped our students become good

citizens. I would like to sincerely thank all

the staff at LEPS for everything they have

done throughout the year to provide all the

incredible learning opportunities to our

students.

A final request to you for the holiday period;

please make sure your children:

read at least 5 books, magazines or

newspapers

write a story, letter or card

count cars, trees or money.

The holidays are a wonderful restful time,

but it is also the time when children’s skills

become a little rusty and they can slip

backwards. By ensuring your children read

or practise their times tables over the

holiday period, you will be ensuring they

don’t slip backwards.

I hope everyone has a

safe and relaxing holiday.

We will look forward to

seeing everyone back

again on Tuesday 31

January at 9:00am.

Semester 2

Term 4 Absences

05/12/2016 — 09/12/2016

That’s all folks! With only a few days left until we

wrap up 2016, this will be the last absence

update. Sadly, we missed out on beating our

target of staying under 1509 days for this term.

Well done to our preps who had the lowest total

absences last week. Best wishes to you all for a

safe and relaxing holiday break. We look forward

to seeing you all at school each and every day in

2017!

Scott Duncan

Acting Assistant Principal

Lady Northcote Recreation Camp

remainder of the camp. Payment can be made either

by QKR! or cash. Please contact the office to discuss

with staff the available CSEF on your child’s account.

2017 Booklists

All students now have received their 2017 Booklist.

Lalor East Primary School makes every effort to keep

the cost and number of items that need to be

purchased to a minimum. We also aim to ensure that

the costs are affordable for all parents.

Payments can be made by Qkr!, cheque or cash.

Payments made by the end of the year will entitle

your child to be given a stationary pack on the first

day of school next year. A school stationary pack will

only be issued upon payment.

Centrepay

Centrepay is now at Lalor East Primary School. It is a

free voluntary bill paying service. Deductions come

from your Centrelink payments and can be used to

pay for students book packs/requisites, camps,

incursions and excursions. If you are interested

please see the office staff for a Centrepay form.

Achievement Program Completion

I am so proud to announce that we have now

achieved recognition in all 8 health priority areas of

the Achievement Program: Sun Protection, Physical

Activity, Healthy Eating & Oral Health, Safe

Environments, Tobacco Control, Mental Health &

Wellbeing, Alcohol & Other Drugs & Sexual Health &

Wellbeing.

The HPE committee and I have been working on the

Achievement Program since its introduction in 2012.

We have updated policies, made changes to our

canteen menu, revisited curriculum programs and

spent time recognising our fantastic efforts for

creating a healthy school.

I would like to thank my committee and the staff of

LEPS for supporting me through this program, it really

was a team effort. I hope we can continue to

maintain achievement in the program and continue

to view the health of our community as a priority.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

The happy and fabulous season of Christmas has continued at OSHC this week. We have made awesome Little

Green Santa Men (from Toy Story) using recycled materials, we have created funny looking elves and Santa’s,

cellophane baubles and also Santa’s using paper plates. We will also be making delicious treats for our OSHC

families too. Yum!

When we are not singing Christmas carols like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, the children and I have enjoyed

playing soccer and silent ball, creating amazing Goodbye cards to our year 6’s (we will miss you Raj and

Stefan), playing funny games like spin the donkey (with blue tac) and our own fantastic OSHC designed board

games.

To everyone in the Lalor East PS community, we wish you a fabulous Christmas. We hope you have a fantastic

New Year and a safe and fun school holidays. We will see you in 2017- Natalie and the children of SOHC.

Parents: Don’t forget OSHC is open on the last day of school. From straight after school to 6pm. Please feel

free to drop by if you have any questions or want further information. Natalie (the coordinator) is happy to

assist with all OSHC matters.

The summer school holidays are coming up, Camp Australia run a terrific, sensational school holiday program

at Mill Park PS (it’s only 5 minutess by car) which will be fun and exciting for all primary school children. If you
