ANNOUNCEMENTS

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

In an effort to promote the warm community feeling we strive for here at KMS, we introduce you to two KMS members each week. We hope you enjoy meeting your fellow members and will use these brief bios as a catalyst to introduce yourself to others at KMS.

YEHUDIT AND MEYER SHIELDS Yehudit and Meyer Shields

moved to Kemp Mill during

the Great Baltimore Migra-

tion of 2013. Yehudit –

born and bred in Baltimore

– is a licensed Occupational

Therapist who sells real

estate, working as a buyers’

agent for the (KMS mem-

ber!) Ciment Team, and

Meyer – who grew up on

the mean streets of Toron-

to – does equity research on insurance companies and hopes to one

day own a food truck with a brick oven (which is probably not legal,

never mind wise). Their children are starting to scatter: Eliana lives

and teaches in New York, starting graduate school in a few weeks; Zev

is studying art at the University of Maryland; and Netani and Daniella

are students at the Berman Hebrew Academy, which they occasionally

even attend. All of the Shieldses remain overwhelmed by the warmth

and welcoming culture at KMS, by Rabbi and Elana Weinberg’s strong

and positive leadership, the growing list of shiurim and other learning

opportunities.

PANINA AND JACOB LICHT Panina and Jacob Licht met during college in Chicago and moved to Kemp Mill 16 years ago after several years in St. Louis. Panina spent her youth in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin where she relished having the most Jewish-sounding name in the farm belt. Jacob grew up in Mary-land and migrated to the Midwest for college, graduate school, and to meet Panina. Together, they strive to maintain a relaxed, friendly, wholesome Midwestern ethos. Panina and Jacob recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with their three daughters Hudi, Ayelet and Miriam. Hudi just finished her sophomore year in college and the twins are

currently in ninth grade at Berman and Sulam. While they believe their aufruf might have been the first one held at KMS, they have photographic evidence that Rabbi Bieler was their mesader kiddushin. Jacob’s parents were among KMS’ founding generation. Panina is a science educator who teaches and is the Administrator at Ashreinu Educational Programs, and is also a Chemistry and Biology whisperer for high school students. Jacob works on the business-side of the biotech industry, focus-ing on transactions and corporate strategy. The Licht family is fond of KMS’ community-driven vibe and its commitment to

special needs inclusion. They enjoy hearing drashot from both the Rabbi and their

fellow community members. Panina has served on the KMS Board and chaired the

Hospitality Committee, Jacob has served as Education VP and Treasurer, and they

believe their greatest contribution to KMS is the joint leadership of their Kiddush

Committee. Miriam can occasionally be heard quieting the crowd in the social hall

for Rabbi Weinberg to make kiddush.
