Canteen News The NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy

All schools in NSW are supported by the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy. All NSW Public Schools are required to transition to the strategy by 2019. The strategy is a commitment by the NSW Government to reduce childhood obesity.

Healthy eating is important as it provides students with essential energy and nutrients they need to learn, play and grow. The new “Food and Drink Benchmark” has changed from the ‘Traffic Lights’ (green, amber, red) to ‘Everyday and Occassional Food and Drinks’. The canteen will start to implement a new healthier menu in Term 4.

A new menu will be distributed at the end of Term 3.

The canteen desperately needs volunteers or we will be forced to close some or all of the days. We would appreciate any assistance from parents/carers, even if it is one shift a month, as we do not wish to close the canteen.

If you would like to volunteer, please visit the Canteen on Monday, Wednesday or Friday to talk to Ruth Wright -

Canteen Coordinator. You may also leave your name and phone number at the school office.

their full social, emotional and academic potential. It has been wonderful to see the number of parents, carers and the wider community who attended our NAIDOC and Festival of Learning celebrations this term.

Term 4 will be busy as we engage in community consultation to formulate the School Plan for Tweed Heads Public School for 2018 to 2020. Community, students and staff will all be asked for input into the school vision for the next three years to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students as we move into the future. We will use a variety of methods to gather this information and I urge you to engage in this process when offered the opportunity.

Thank you to everybody who has made me feel so welcome at Tweed Heads Public School. The school provides a supportive environment for students and staff and I am excited to be continuing to work with you all again next term.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday and I look forward to seeing students return for Term 4 on Monday 9th

October.

Recorder Trip - Sydney Opera House Written by Mrs Jacquie McAllum - Principal

My last Principal experience was very special. What a fantastic evening I had watching sixteen THPS students perform with approx 700 other students in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House. The Annual Festival of Instrumental Music is a wonderful experience for NSW Public Education students. I have no doubt, through this experience, many students have been inspired to follow their dream of playing different musical instruments and perhaps even pursuing a career in music/performing arts. Over my 25 years as a Principal supporting and attending fourteen such concerts over the years, I am proud to have been part of this experience and pathway provided for my students and for the many 1000s of others across NSW.

Congratulations to Miss Sophie Cutler and her Recorder Group at THPS and to the many other teachers and students for a great performance that evening. Well Done!!

Les Peterkin Portrait Prizes Stage 2 & 3 students at THPS took part in the Les Peterkin Portrait Competition through the Tweed Regional Gallery in Murwillumbah.

We would like to congratulate three students, Ziah (3K), Elijah (5/4W) and Alabama (6R), who were awarded a ‘Work of Excellence’ Award and their artwork will be displayed in a folder at the gallery.

Congratulations to Kirstie (6R) who will have her portrait hung in the gallery to recognise her out-standing artwork.

The exhibition opens on Friday 22th September and runs through to Sunday 3rd December. All members of the community are welcome to go and see the many winning artworks from the various schools in the Tweed area. For more information contact the Tweed Regional Gallery on 02 6670 2790 or by email [email protected]
