Question: How can I avoid holiday weight gain? Answer: The holidays can be a difficult time for most with managing their weight. Take the time to eat breakfast. Skipping this can pack on the pounds any time of the year, but with holiday sweets there is more temptation. Breakfast will kick start your metabolism to help burn those extra pounds off. Make sure this meal is full of proteins and fiber. You also want to increase your water intake. Water can help with a number of things and one is to help fight off hunger. Take a minute to think about what you’re going to be eating before you go fill up a plate. Having just a little bit of everything is a sure way to add on those dreaded holiday pounds. The little bits can add up faster then you think. Try to pick the healthier options someone may have to offer. Go for the veggie tray instead of the cookie tray.

Opt for no alcohol. Alcohol has a lot of calories, and it also makes you feel bloated at times. Reducing your intake will help you keep your calorie intake down. Alcohol can also cause some people to eat more then normal due to low inhibition. If you’re going to have a drink opt for red wine. It contains many antioxidants, such as resveratrol which studies show many have some benefits to weight loss and heart disease. Also, keep moving! Try to move around every ten minutes or so to boost your metabolism, burn a few calories while having fun. Being a “social butterfly” has its advantages: less time to indulge in the sweet treats laying out, moving around and being social also helps keep your mind off snacking. Sneak in some extra gym time. Moderate activity can decrease appetite for up to a few hours so add a little extra treadmill time before your next holiday party.
