FIRE IN THE MOUNTAINS: The Dodgers tonight begin a six-game,
seven-day road trip with the first of three contests against the first-place
Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Los Angeles is coming off a
homestand in which the club went 6-4 and took series from the Rockies,
Padres while splitting four games with the Phillies. With yesterday’s
loss, the Dodgers have now won 10 of 14 games since May 17.
Following the weekend series in Denver, the Dodgers will have an off
day in Pittsburgh on Monday, before beginning a three-game set with
the Pirates Tuesday night. The club returns to Chavez Ravine a week
from today and begins an eight-game homestand against the Braves,
Rangers and Giants.
The Dodgers took two of three from the Rockies a little more
than a week ago at Dodger Stadium. Last year, the Rockies
won the season series, 10-9 and the clubs split the 10 games at
Coors Field, 5-5.
The Dodgers are 16-18 against the NL West this season and
tonight will be their first truly meaningful game at Coors Field
since May 14, 2017. Los Angeles visited Denver for the final
regular season road series last year (Sept. 29-Oct. 1), but had
already clinched their fifth consecutive NL West title.
THE STARS TAKE WASHINGTON: This morning, Major League
Baseball marked the official start of All-Star Balloting for the 2018
MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, which will be held on
Tuesday, July 17th at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. For the fourth
consecutive season, MLB’s All-Star Balloting Program will be
conducted exclusively online and via mobile devices at MLB.com, all
30 Club web sites and the MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark mobile apps.
Beginning on Friday, fans around the world can cast their votes for
starters a total of 35 times with the 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star
Ballot, including a maximum of five valid ballots cast in any 24-hour
period. The AL squad will be managed by A.J. Hinch of the defending
World Series Champion Houston Astros, while the NL team will be led
by Dave Roberts of the defending NL Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
Following the announcement of the American League and National
League All-Star rosters, fans will begin voting to select the final player
for each League’s 32-man roster via the 2018 Camping World MLB All-
Star Final Vote, which Justin Turner won last year.
MEN IN THE ‘PEN: The Dodger pitching staff has been strong in the
last 14 games since May 17 (10-4 record), posting a 2.29 ERA (32
ER/126.0 IP), holding the opposition to a .192 average while striking out
147 batters against 29 walks. In that time, the club’s starters have gone
7-1 with eight quality starts in the 14 games, while posting a 2.30 ERA
(19 ER/74.1 IP). They have also limited opposing batters to a .188

fourth in the Major Leagues, trailing just the Nationals (2.51), Astros
(2.82) and Phillies (3.00).
In that time, the Dodger bullpen has posted a 2.26 ERA with
a .198 opponents’ batting average, while allowing just one
home run since May 17. This evening the ‘pen will be tasked
with providing the lion’s share of innings and will be led by
left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander, who is making his first
career start in his 100th career big league appearance. In his
first season with the Dodgers, Alexander has gone 1-0 with a
4.05 ERA (9 ER/20.0 IP) and has held hitters to a .250 average
in 20 relief outings.
Dodger closer Kenley Jansen recorded his 12th save of the
season Monday night (7th, NL) and was brilliant during the
month of May, going nine-for-nine in save opportunities while
posting a 0.60 ERA (1 ER/15.0 IP) in 14 games. In that time,

Kemp is posting a .343/.370/.550 slashline with 19 runs, 14 doubles,

Cincinnati’s Scooter Gennett for the highest average in the National
League in batting average, trailing only Boston’s Mookie Betts (.359)

seventh on the Senior Circuit.
Kemp’s .436 (17-for-39) batting average with runners in

separate occasions when he cracked three at Ebbets Field against the
Braves. Since then, Shawn Green (who belted three homers on Aug. 15,
2001 and tied the franchise record with four on May 23, 2002 at
Milwaukee), Adrían González (2016, ’16) and Corey Seager (2016,
