UPCYCLE AND SAVE OUR WORLD

Upcycling?

Upcycling is the art of using unwanted items by converting them

into somthing better.

Why upcycle?

Its fun and it saves the enviroment!

How does it save the enviroment?

It saves the enviroment because it stops people from throwing so

much rubbish away. The rubbish usually ends up in landfill sites

which are destroying the earths atmosphere

What are the alternatives and how are they

worse for the enviroment?

The alternatives are: Recycling and throwing the rubbish in the

landfill sites. Recycling isn’t bad for the enviroment but it takes up

a lot of energy and time in the process. Throwing rubbish in the

landfill sites is really bad because the rubbish rotts, it produces

greenhouse gases such as Methane and Carbon Dioxide, which

rises up into the atmosphere and destroys the ozone layer. The

ozone layer is protecting us from the sun and if we destroy it all,

the sun will burn up the earth.

What do we need to

do to get involved?

We need to start upcycling!

Turn over for some

upcycling ideas!

Baby Food Jar Snow Globe:

1) First collect and clean the materials: Recycled jars, glitter ), to make the snow floaty, waterproof epoxy and an old toy that fits inside the jar.

2) Next glue the toy to the underside of the jar’s lid using the waterproof epoxy and set it aside to dry.

3) 3) Moving on Add a couple pinches of glitter, fill the jar with water. It’s best that the water inside the jar overflows when the toy is inserted to reduce the size of the air bubble that will show up. Keep a dish towel handy.

4) Lastly, Place glue around the threaded rim of the jar and the lid, with its affixed toy, and secure the lid into place atop the jar. Flip the jar upside down and you’ve got a ‘brand new’ snow globe.

Bottle top memory game:

1) First collect 30 bottle tops, a biro, some card, prit stick, scissors and colouring pens.

2) Seccondly, fetch the card, biro, colouring pens and 1 bottle top.

Draw around the bottle top with the biro, repeat this 30 times.

3) Then, in each of the circles you have drawn, draw a simple picture making sure you have a double for each one.

4) Next, cut out all the circles. Then stick then IN the bottle top NOT

on the outside! Once they have dried, turn them all over so you can’t see the picture and arrange them like in the picture above.5) Finally, have fun inventing memory games with your pieces!

T-shirt braclets:

1) First, get an old T-shirt(s)

2) Next, Cut the t-shirt into 1 cm

strips

3) After you have finished cutting

you will end up with loads of

hoops. Cut one side of the hoop

so you end up with a strip. Do

this to all the strips you have

cut.

4) Then , take 3 of the strips.(if

you have been cutting up more

than 1 t-shirt take 3 from any t-

shirt you like. You could try

different combonations, e.g

yellow, green and blue.) Plait

your 3 strips together.

5) Next, hold the two ends and ask

someone to put it around your

wrist. Then knot the two ends

together and cut of the

remainders of the material, but

don’t cut it to close to the knot.

6) Finally you have your own t-shirt

braclet! Now make more out of

the other stripes you cut!

Facts:

The UK disposes of 50 m i l l i on tyres a year. Why don ’ t you build a swing with y o u r o l d tyres?

E a c h year, the average

British family throws away six trees worth of paper, so get crafty

and upcycle your paper! About

one fifth of the contents of household

dustbins is paper and card (of which half is newspapers and magazines) - equivalent to over 4kg of waste paper per household each week. Think of all the things you

could make out of that!

T h e a m o u n t o f w a s t e produced in the UK:◦ in one hour - would fill the

Albert Hall;◦ in one day - would fill

Trafalgar Square to the top of Nelson's Column.

◦ in nine months - would fill Lake Windermere.

We really need to upcycle more!
