Prestonpans Infant School Newsletter December 2011 UPDATE A huge thank you to the 3 parents who contacted me to say that the school are asking for too much money at too short notice, We had discussed this at our Parent Council on Thursday night, 1 December but it was disturbing to hear from parents how much you are struggling with all that is being asked by the school and Parent Council. We are really sorry for this and have made these immediate changes. 1. The Nativity performances will be FREE. There will still be only 2 tickets per family because of Health and Safety but there will not be a charge to come and see the Nativity. 2. Dress Down/Up Day on the last day of term (22nd December 2011) will also be free. Just wear what you like to school that day. 3. Every child will go to see Aladdin at the Brunton. If you are having difficulty with paying for this, please arrange to come and speak to Mrs McBirnie, Mrs Kettell or Ms Laing. We should have let you know how much this would cost much earlier, giving you the opportunity to pay it up, as the primary school have done. We are sorry about this. As soon as I knew how worried some families were about paying for the na- tivity, panto, dress down day, I posted news on the website that we were changing arrangements to make life easier. So if you have a computer, keep an eye on the website as it’s updated most days now. We’ll soon have a new and easier name for the website but meanwhile type Prestonpans Infants into Google or find http://edubuzz.org/prestonpansinfant. If you have a smartphone, you could scan this image in and it will take you to the website. We are starting a webclub for teachers on Tuesday 6.12.11 so there will likely be news from many classes on Wednesday.

Prestonpans Infant School Newsletter

December 2011 UPDATE

A huge thank you to the 3 parents who contacted me to say that the school

are asking for too much money at too short notice, We had discussed this

at our Parent Council on Thursday night, 1 December but it was disturbing to

hear from parents how much you are struggling with all that is being asked

by the school and Parent Council. We are really sorry for this and have

made these immediate changes.

1. The Nativity performances will be FREE. There will still

be only 2 tickets per family because of Health and

Safety but there will not be a charge to come and see

the Nativity.

2. Dress Down/Up Day on the last day of term (22nd December 2011) will

also be free. Just wear what you like to school that day.

3. Every child will go to see Aladdin at the Brunton. If you

are having difficulty with paying for this, please arrange

to come and speak to Mrs McBirnie, Mrs Kettell or Ms

Laing. We should have let you know how much this would

cost much earlier, giving you the opportunity to pay it up,

as the primary school have done. We are sorry about this.

As soon as I knew how worried some families were about paying for the na-

tivity, panto, dress down day, I posted news on the website that we were

changing arrangements to make life easier. So if you have a computer, keep

an eye on the website as it’s updated most days now. We’ll soon have a new

and easier name for the website but meanwhile type Prestonpans Infants

into Google or find http://edubuzz.org/prestonpansinfant. If you have a

smartphone, you could scan this image in and it will take

you to the website.

We are starting a webclub for teachers on Tuesday

6.12.11 so there will likely be news from many classes on

Wednesday.

We applied to sing on Radio Forth but weren’t

chosen though we believe St Gabriel’s were so lis-

ten in for our neighbours. However, P2s will be

singing on http://eastcoastfm.co.uk on the morn-

ing of Thursday 15 December. We’ll text you the

exact time when we know it and send a letter out to P2 parents

and carers.

Your Parent Council engaged in rigorous debate about 2 issues at

their meeting last week.

Issue 1— The amount of fundraising and costs to families in De-

cember in particular against the desire to buy the playground

equipment the children have been promised. You may not know

that the first phase of the playground equipment—the climbing

frames, den, football pitch markings for P3 and climbing wall has

already been ordered and will be installed just before or just af-

ter Christmas.

Issue 2— Should the Parent Council have a Facebook page?

Fierce debate about this and we would love to hear your views.

Meanwhile a Facebook page is being designed to trial.

Tell us your thoughts on either issue by returning this form to

school or comment on website or speak to Iain, your Parent

Council Chair or any other members of the Parent Council.

I think that........
