Lucinda Jetty Coastal Observatory (LJCO)
• Quasi-operational data acquisition re-established in early 2014 Continuous measurements + fortnightly water sampling
• Full in-water IOPs and above water AOPs (details next slides)
• Received TC-Yasi insurance claim – instrument refresh
• Currently funded until June 2016 (not part of IMOS core funding)
• Exploring options for external funding

Bio-optics at NRS sitesRe-evaluation – recommendations for 2015/16
On-going• Site characterisation – seasonal variability using OC
Signal-to-noise limitations – clear waters? • Follow-up with manufacturer on non-physical raw counts
2015/16• Pause deployments? • Perform local calibration – frequent inter-comparisons
Scattering Hobart – CDOM Townsville?• Add CDOM to monthly in-situ sampling – perform field
characterisation on sensors (determine scale factors)• Were feasible reduce instrument rotations per site

Updates on IMOS Ocean Colour (OC)
• DALEC - Continuous above-water radiometry(J. Lovell, D. Boadle)
• Bio-optical data base(L. Clementson, H. Franklin)
• Production and validation of OC(E. King, R. Scott, K. Suber, J. Lovell)
Funding continues 2015/16 and 2016/17 (~20% cut but large carry forward to buffer reduced funding)

New National Marine Facility delivered Sep 2014Not an ideal platform for the DALEC
IMOS Bio-optical WG meeting 1-2 July 2015, Perth
No support by MNF to operate the DALEC – maintenance overhead too highVessel structure impacting on radiometry (irradiance)2015/16 Solander only – allocation provided to AIMS to support deployments
IMOS bio-optical data base Continued acquisition of bio-optical data from the Australian research community into the IMOS bio-optical data base and data provision to NASA (SeaBASS) and ESA (Mermaid) as well as ESA’s Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative (OC-CCI).
Focus 2015/16Inclusion of AIMS & JCU data sets
Data updates to SeaBASS (Jan-June 2014)

Ocean Colour Validation
• New in 2014/15 sub-facility will start providing annual validation reports
• Based on bio-optical data base – match-up analysis
• Provision of extracted satellite data & associated match-ups
• Possible – ocean colour time series from “virtual buoys”
