    2 OVERVIEW

    This document instructs the steps for upgrading the Node software from SVR 4.1 to SVR 4.2.2, SVR4.1.1 to SVR 4.2.2, SVR 4.2 to SVR 4.2.2 and SVR 4.2.1 to SVR 4.2.2, including the available rollback options.

    2.1 Service interrupt ion

    NE reboot is mandatory during the upgrade. One of the following two approaches should bechosen to reboot

    Warm reboot NE and cold reboot cards as shown below

    Case Release Load Cold reboot cards

    1. XCT [15/5G] w.STM-16/4(S42024-L5470-A1)

    2. 2x STM-1 (S42024-L5484-A1/A2)1 R4.1->R4.2.2

    3. 2x STM1E (W/P) (S42024-L5460-A1)4. 8x FE/L2 (4x VC4) (S42024-L5495-A1)

    1. XCT [15/5G] w.STM-16/4(S42024-L5470-A1)2. 2x STM-1 (S42024-L5484-A1/A2)

    2 R4.1.1->R4.2.23. 2x STM1E (W/P) (S42024-L5460-A1)4. 8x FE/L2 (4x VC4) (S42024-L5495-A1)

    1. 1xGE/T (S42024-L5472-A1/A2)3 R4.2->R4.2.2

    2. 8xFE/T (S42024-L5469-A1/A2)

    Table 2.1-1 Reboot Information

    The traffic on those cards will be interrupted for no more than 1 minute in worst scenario.The NE will be offline up to 10 minutes in worst scenario after NE rebooting.

    Cold reboot whole NE to complete the upgrade. The traffic interruption could be up to 5minutes in worst scenario. The NE will be offline up to 10 minutes in worst scenario afterNE reboot.

    Note

    ii Since the upgrade procedure will change R4.1/R4.1.1 SC card to R4.2.2 SCE card, during thisperiod the Ethernet traffic which running on RSTP/MSTP/GVRP will be interrupted since youplug out the SC card. After SCE card has been inserted chassis and R4.2.2 software loadsuccessfully these traffic will be auto recovered.

    Noteii Please note that during SCE card replacement, after press R to warm reboot NE to load new

    R4.2.2 software, following card will be automatically cold rebooted and traffic existed on thesetwo cards will be interrupted.
