Overview This document provides the detailed steps to upgrade your vault to new Recovery Service vault for
VMware Site to Site scenario (ASR Scout). Your existing ASR Scout component either CX or RX is
registered to either a Site Recovery vault (classic Azure portal) or to a Recovery Service vault (new Azure
portal). In both the cases you need to re-register your CX or RX.
If your existing vault is Site Recovery vault, you need to unregister CX or RX from the current vault,
create a new Recovery Service vault in the new Azure portal in your desired Azure region, and register
your CX or RX to the new vault.
If your existing vault is Recovery Service vault, you can use the same vault and re-register CX or RX with
a new registration key. If you want to register to a new vault on a different Azure region then you need
to unregister from the current vault, create a new Recovery Service vault in the new region and register
CX or RX to the new vault.
Below are the details steps that you need to follow in the given order.
1. Apply RX un-registration patch This step is to be performed on RX server. If you have only CX server, directly move to Step 2.
NOTE: If RX is unregistered without applying the RX un-registration patch, all the CX servers which are
registered to RX need to be manually re-registered again once RX registration to new Recovery Service
vault is completed.
To apply RX un-registration path, follow steps as below:
a. First Download the hotfix CX-RX_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_14May18.zip. It is a .zip file
contains three files:
• CX_Windows_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_27Dec17.exe (CX registration hotfix)
• RX_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_28Dec17.tar.gz (RX registration hotfix)
• Rx.php (RX un-registration patch)
b. Unzip to store the files into the local folder.
c. Follow below steps to apply un-registration patch on RX server before you start unregistering RX
server.
i. Login to RX machine. First backup the existing file "/home/rx/admin/app/Rx.php" file as
"/home/rx/admin/app/Rx_org.php" by running following command.
ii. Now copy Rx.php un-registration file that is part of the download hotfix to
/home/rx/admin/app location of RX server and give executable permission to the Rx.php
file.
cp Rx.php /home/rx/admin/app/
chmod 0755 /home/rx/admin/app/Rx.php
mv /home/rx/admin/app/Rx.php /home/rx/admin/app/Rx_org.php
d. Now you can procced with un-registration of RX server step as below.
NOTE: After RX registration is completed, you need to revert Rx.php (un-registration patch) as
mentioned in Revert RX un-registration patch.
2. Unregister CX/RX server from the Site Recovery vault/Recovery
Service vault. If your CX is registered to Site Recovery or Recovery vault, follow unregister CX steps. If you have RX, follow unregister RX steps. No action required on CX which is registered to RX.
2.1. Unregister CX a. Login to CX UI → Http://<CX IP>:<port> or Https://<CX IP>:<port>. Go to “Settings” tab and click on
“Unregister Server” as below.
b. It redirects to the registration details page. In that page click on “Unregister” button.
c. It will unregister CX from Site Recovery or Recovery Service vault whichever vault you have used.
d. Then proceed to the next step to install the hotfix.
2.2. Unregister RX a. Login to RX UI → Http://<RX IP>:<port> or Https://<RX IP>:<port>. Go to “Settings” tab and click on
“Azure Site Recovery Unregister RX” as below.
b. It redirects to the registration details page. In that page click on “Unregister” button.
c. It will unregister RX the from Site Recovery or Recovery Service vault whichever vault you have
used.
d. Then proceed to the next step to install the hotfix.
NOTE: Don’t install the hotfix on CX or RX until you unregister your existing CX/RX from Azure Site
Recovery vault else un-registration will fail.
3. Install the hotfix on your CX/RX server 1. Download the hotfix CX-RX_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_25Jan18.zip. It is a .zip file contains
three files:
• CX_Windows_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_27Dec17.exe (CX registration hotfix)
• RX_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_28Dec17.tar.gz (RX registration hotfix)
• Rx.php (RX un-registration patch)
2. Unzip to store the files into the local folder.
3. Follow below step to Install CX hotfix on CX server to install RX hotfix on RX serve.
NOTE:
1. If you have registered your CX to RX then you don’t need to install the hotfix on the CX. In this
case install the hotfix on RX.
2. You can install the hotfix on any Scout 8.0.1 CX/RX update, not just latest update.
3.1. Windows CX: a. Copy “CX_Windows_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_27Dec17.exe” executable file to CX server
which is registered with Site Recovery/Recovery Service vault.
b. Double click on it and click on install button as shown below.
c. After installation proceed to the next step to create a Recovery Service vault.
3.2. Linux RX a. Copy “RX_8.0.1.1_GA_HotFix_1_1529814_28Dec17.tar.gz” file to RX server and execute the
following commands.
b. After installation proceed to the next step to create a Recovery Service vault.
4. Create a new Recovery Service vault If your existing vault is Site Recovery vault, you need to create a new Recovery Service vault in the
new Azure portal in your desired Azure region as mentioned in the section.
If your existing vault is Recovery Service vault, you can use the same vault. In this case you can skip
this step and go to step 4 Download vault registration key. But if you want to register to a new vault
on a different Azure region then what you have, you need to create a new Recovery Service vault in
the new region as mentioned in this section.
a. Sign in to the new Azure Portal.
b. Click + Create a resource on the right top of the page.
c. Under New, search for Backup and Site Recovery (OMS).
d. Click Create button.

f. Use this vault registration key to register your CX or RX to Recovery Service vault as below.
NOTE:
1. You can use the same registration key to register your multiple CX or RX servers to the same vault.
2. If you have multiple CX or RX servers which are registered to different vault in different Azure region, then download a registration key from each vault and use the respective registration key to register to the corresponding Recovery Service vault.
6. Register your CX or RX server
6.1. Register CX to Recovery Service vault Follow the below steps to register CX to the Recovery Service vault.
a. Login to CX/RX UI → Http://<CX or RX IP>:<port> or Https://<CX or RX IP>:<port>.

Run the following commands to revert the patch:
NOTE: If RX is unregistered without applying the RX un-registration patch, all the CX servers which are
registered to RX need to be manually re-registered again once RX registration to new Recovery Service
vault is completed.
